- Using our Brompton folding bikes, we cycled the 1200km Vélodyssée route located in Western France. The first part (this video) mainly follows the Nantes-Brest canal, an amazing corridor of green scenery. Although mainly not paved, the path wasn't too difficult for the small wheeled Brompton.

Nice trip, epic music.
Magnifique route, belle vidéo, bon courage!
🙏🏻thanks for sharing 👍
As with England, beautiful countryside.
Thanks for the videos.
Did the Coast-to-Coast and the Pennine Way (by foot) and Newhaven to London with Bromptons. Any long distance bike paths you recommend?
I like useful these writes.....
Did you carry everything you needed on your Brompton? I presume that you didn’t camp?
Yes, we carried everything we needed on the Brompton, and we did not camp. BTW, here’s what we pack on a such trips:

@@2Bikes4Adventure I just watched the video about clothing - very useful!
As you take your Bromptons on big adventures have you ever considered adding a Rohloff hub, belt drive or disk brakes? I find my 4-speed Brompton is too difficult to cycle uphill, especially when carrying lots of luggage
@simonjohnson2897 We briefly considered installing Rohloff hubs on our Birdys but eventually moved in the other direction and decided to tour with reduced gear ranged but more nimble Bromptons.
We also select our touring destination accordingly. If significant elevation gain is required, we go “multi-modal” and take a train or bus up then cycle down the mountain.
Very sensible @@2Bikes4Adventure - It's a balancing act to have the climbing gears, the ability to carry gear and keep the Brompton light enough to carry. I have the new Titanium Brompton (7.4kg), but it's not much use for touring and hill climbing.
@simonjohnson2897 Rumour has it Brompton will release a 12-speed version next year.
It would use their 4-speed derailleur with the BWR internal hub. While we can expect some overlapping gear combinations, it would still provide a wider range than the 6 speed, a welcome improvement for Brompton tourers.
How long did you take from top to bottom?
We did it in 3 weeks, so about 60km (35 miles) per day. This also includes 2 days in Paris at the end.
Thanks, that sounds very achievable for me, I don’t cycle fast.
What is your Brompton Bike model? :)
@wapweb, for this trip, we used our old 2001 T3 Bromptons (3 speed SRAM, M bar, rear rack), somewhat similar to current A-Line but with a smaller frame.
We do own 2016 M6R (equivalent to current C-Line Explore), but felt it was overkill for Velodyssée
Do you have a Komoot profile to download the route?
We do not have (yet) a Komoot account. As for the Velodyssée route, we followed the GPX file available on this site: www.cycling-lavelodyssee.com/practical-info/the-gps-tracklog
2Bikes4Adventure thank you so much!
