O'landa Draper was one of the most innovative choir directors in Gospel Music in terms of directing and passion. He put a LOT of passion and perfectionism (in relation to perfected praise) in how a choir moves, sings and most of all, watches it's director. He was friends with Gospel greats like Ricky Dillard, Hezekiah Walker (who covered his song "I've Got a Reason to Praise the Lord" after his passing), Donald Lawrence, Pastor Shirley Caesar (he wrote "I Cannot Stop Praising Him" for her to sing) and of course, Beverly Crawford and more.
He and the Associates choir sang from around 1985 (first album was released in 1990) up until 1998 when Draper passed away from renal failure, sadly :(. But I tell ya if God didn't call him home early, he'd be right up in the charts today. When you see people like Tye Tribbet, Dexter Walker or any choir director move passionately, thank people like Ricky Dillard and O'landa Draper for popularizing it, because it wasn't always accepted in the church. That's true innovation :)
