Is the VW Scirocco R more fun than the Golf R? Test drive and review (2014)

In today’s video, I'm trying to decide if the FWD, 280bhp Scirocco R is more fun to drive than the AWD, 310 bhp Golf R, which I found to be a bit too clinical and soulless, despite it's incredible capabilities. There's no denying that the Scirocco is a very pretty car but I'm not sure if I actually prefer the looks to the Golf 🤔

“Objectively I think it looks better then the Golf that’s for sure.” Next breath, “do I prefer the looks of this to the Golf… I don’t know” I’m confused with that statement
😅 I think on paper, as an object, it looks better than the golf but I’m not sure if it actually appeals to me, personally, more or not.
I recall seeing Scirocco vs Golf racing quite a number of years ago, pre the R models. The Sciroccos were faster on track, the commentator having said that it was due to them having a wider track. I don't know if this is right but every Scirocco finished in front of the Golfs in that particular outing. Like yourself, I also think they look nicer.
Iv never liked the look of them to be honest, but as the years have gone on it’s grown on me. Nice car looks really clean but golf for me all day long.

This is fascinating - I know this car, and used to pass it every day when heading to work! It was owned by a guy local to me (I drove an identical '16 plate R at the time, but manual), up in the west of Scotland. I stopped seeing it on the road about three years ago now. I was told, however, that he had got the car mapped to 380bhp. Could it be that it is still running this power (hence why you were so impressed by the drive)? I'd love to know what's happened with the car in the intervening years since I last saw it.
I like both, but chose the golf, no regrets 👍
Unusual to see a RNS315 in a Scirocco R of this year. Most came with the Discover Media headunit (with or without Nav). None the less, good looking car!
My 17 plate has the discover media but before buying I looked at an 18 plate and it had the rns315 which is odd . Glad you brought it up because I can always remember thinking the screen was smaller .
@@RANDA11FLAGG Exactly mate, RNS315 was fantastic at the time, integrated into the MFD really well but with the rise of Google Maps and connecting your phone straight to the unit, its aged now
I concur, I would think a GTI (maybe with a map) would feel more " fun" assuming white knuckles and a pucker is fun😇

that car has a stage1 map, normal boost pressure is around 1.2 bar, your running near the 2.0 bar mark, the stage1 map will hit around 1.6 to 1.8 with maybe a touch on the 2.0 bar in overboost, just thought id let you know.
Mine goes to 2 and its not mapped
lol i bought a golf r est 7.5 the one up to what you have with digital dash and better stereo with touch screen , but the only thing is you have to keep a spare cloth with you . but ASTONISHGLY LOL. A+ . 😁

I would never buy a second hand hot hatch/performance car, the previous owner didnt buy it to go to the shops, more likely re mapped, hammered, then traded in.

Golf is certainly easier to live with!! even if ur not a family guy just getting mates in the back of a scirroco is a nitemare especially if ur the designated driver and they are pissed up!!

The Scirocco R has 19 inch cadiz alloys and the Golf R has 18 inch Cadiz 🤪
Had a Clio Williams ,no it was just a 1.8 😂😂😂
It still has the flared arches and bonnet, it just didn’t have gold wheels 🤷♂️😂
I think the Golf feels too clinical so if the Scirocco doesn't then you have your winner I guess. 🤔
