    We have a 2013 Highlander 4WD. It has a traction control button that locks the transfer case- making it actual 4WD. That system would have done wonders vs. the snow mode with 2 wheels off the ground. We drive on east coast beaches with no issues as long as the tires are dropped to 18-20psi.

    • @dubai2toronto
      @dubai2toronto Před 5 měsíci +1

      I dont recommend traction control while offroading, it has nothing to do with transfer case. It just avoids the car slipping, and not recommended while offroading...

    Compare to most SUV's it actually has decent ground clearance and approach / departure angles compare to its competitors. I tooken the highlander offroad a few times, and only thing it could use is a stiffer suspension, but then u would ruin the on road ride quality. The highlander is also a full time 50/50 split not awd

Then I had a BMW that had 2 regulators break overtime and that was what made me walk away from BMW for good because those cost almost $300 apiece to fix. So far after five years all good on my Highlander, but every time I hit that window button I do expect to hear that Pop sound from past experiences from other cars.

    Snow mode might be dialing back throttle and cranking up the traction control? Makes sense if you think about it..

    • @TestDrivenTV
      @TestDrivenTV  Před 10 lety +8

      Yes the snow mode isn't a magic bullet, doesn't lock anything in the way of differentials. But, it does change the algorithm of the ABS which is what slowed spinning wheels more aggressively and allowed the vehicle to move forward better than when off.

      Angelo C there is snow mode available on FWD models as well. I believe it really just dulls throttle response to reduce wheel slippage.
