- kennyS was once one of the biggest names in CS:GO - all thanks to his unique AWPing style and natural talent.
But after becoming one of Counter-Strike’s most exciting players and hitting milestones every pro player dreams of, kennyS felt himself slipping, and the losses piled up.
His natural talent was still undeniable - but just talent wasn’t going to cut it anymore.
kennyS was once on top of the world. Now, no one is willing to even roll the dice on him.
So we had to ask: what happened to kennyS?

Mechanically, Kenny is the greatest to ever do it. No other player has ever forced valve to change the game because they dominated so spectacularly. Honestly watch some of those old Titan events where he's dropping 40+ kills for 4 games straight.

It’s expected tbh. The op in Valorant is easier, just the only agent you can be viable with the op is Jett due to her movement capabilities. Wouldn’t be surprised if they nerf the awp because of him like they did in CS. Gun is already broken.

@@TheMurtnaT Jett isn’t the only agent that could use it, it’s just the most dedicated agent to it. The op is definitely easier. Definitely is easier especially with hitting shots and holding angles. Just gotta get used to the fact you can’t crouch peek or move while using it. Kids have bigger op crutches in Val than CS.
kennyS had inspired me through out the years, with those awp skills he is the most insane awper that has ever stepped cs scene. We salute u KennyS thanks for inspiring lot’s of new Awpers tragic to see him benched.💪🏻💪🏻
The clips of him admitting that he coasted mostly off of raw talent really puts his achievements and impact into perspective. He's like the Allen Iverson of CS. Great video

could be a slight decline in reflexes as he ages as well. If he is relying on just always being faster, all it takes is the small naturally degradation caused by aging and he goes from being a bit faster than everyone, to roughly on the same page, and stuff that used to work just doesn't anymore. As a lot of pro gamers age they tend to shift from more mechanically / reflex intense positions to more strategic roles on the team, and then slowly get phased out of the scene entirely.

He's still a tier 1 awper. It's just that CS:GO doesn't have many new projects thanks to no LANs. Ironically, the only team that does need an awper is G2 who don't seem to know how to put a team together anyway. Let's be real, after adding Niko to the roster, what trophies has the roster won? I see a lot of 2nd, 3rd, 4th finishes.

He had his time, he had his major, he have nothing left to prove and It would be godly difficult to rebound. He was overrated and got more fans than other similar to his strength at the time(GuardiaN or dev1ce). There is nothing to feel bad for, he have marked his history and those comments proved he did.

Pro player salaries vary between 15-20k $ / month. So if you won't play good then the org would just hire a young talented player who is still inexperienced to play your role. Watch henryg's hltv episode. He gives a better explanation. In this era all tier 1 orgs will not spend big bucks on anyone who isn't performing well, they would rather just integrate some fpl player or some young talent in their current roster.
Look at vitality they improved so much after the addition of kyojin.
Same can be said for navi, replacing flamie with b1t worked wonders.

For Kenny, he should just move to valorant.

About KennyS, what can i say, good luck to him , he really was and still is an insane player. especially since he says himself that he's pretty lazy, so being that good while putting not that many hours like others have, is a major thing. To pretty much every CSGO player from the early era, kennyS was the pinnacle of AWPing and we all wanted to be him. Kenny will always be the greatest AWPer of all time to me, not just for his skill, but for what he inspired.
KennyS and Tenz is literally the reason why I use sniper so much in games, like seeing them hitting the shot faster than my eyes can react to the flick is what attracts me.
both players are pretty overrated. Tenz is good but he's not the best player on his team. Shazam does more for the team, Sick is the perfect player in terms of his flexibility. IMO Tenz and Kenny are the same player. Both have insane talent but dont have the mind for the game that other players do. I will say this Tenz has maybe the most entertaining pro view to watch and his stream is fantastic.

He is the reason I strive for sniping in any fps game even if not in cs, he inspired us to be better , even if hes not performing well lately, I still thought of him as my idol when it comes to sniping in general and some people will agree.
We all have ups and downs. Either way, kennyS is one of the greatest CS players and nothing will change that.

Man, I will never forget G2 at the Boston Major. They went 6-0 in the group stages, only to get kicked out instantly, 0-2 in the quarter finals.
This would follow G2 in a lot of tournaments, they'd be really good althroughout before bombing out embarassingly.
It's so cool him mentioning TF2, I'm still an avid TF2 player, and when I'm popping off sniping in TF2 I'm usually at my best in cs:go awping.

I fucking love Kenny. He was the last member of that G2 team that got me into CS - and esports in general - and it's actually really mature of him to readily admit that he relied too much on talent. Most people aren't able to accept that.
A sentiment that I try to live my life by is “What got you here, won’t get you there”. Basically if you stop learning and adapting, you’ll fall behind.
Kenny i came to watch csgo because of you. Even ive never touched csgo in my life i got impressed by seeing your awp shots. Its really hard to maintain ones glory for a long long period of time. Its common for all of us. You are a part of csgo and still remain in our hearts forever.
Watched his highlight reel back in 2014. After that I bought csgo and picked up awping. Whatever way he goes, he'll be cemented as a legend and nothing short of that.

I think the break from the competitive scene is what kenny needs. He’s been on teams since source and has not been teamless for a long period of time. A refresh is needed after nearly a decade of competing.

Being really smart and talented early on let's you get good grades without ever studying.
The problem is that you never struggled, never learned how to study and when talent is no longer enough, for example in high school or college you start to struggle, but now the stakes are higher and you have a lot more to catch up to.

It's no surprise CSGO is bleeding players even when there's a new update, a healthy playerbase is paramount to the esports scene of a game, there's no big moves from the orgs themselves so less opportunity for players. That's why players like Nivera switched, there's just no opportunity there.

I'm glad he took up streaming and is doing well for himself. He was my favourite pro player for CS and the reason I learned to awp.

There have been a number of legendary plays with the weapon, don't get me wrong. Coldzera, Olof, JW, Zywoo, S1mple, Device. But man, KennyS is still a benchmark. He's a literal legend of the CS community that would pass on for ages.
