_This is possibly one the best final boss themes on the Zero series. You can feel the energy, despair, and overall madness, making the theme so fitting for Elpizo, who got corrupted by power. He's fast, smart, powerful and he can make a complete fool out of you, if you aren't prepared. This theme slaps so hard!_
I felt the same hatred as Zero, I mean who wouldn’t when he was forced to watch his friend whom he helped saved the world a hundred years ago get his body destroyed (I mean he’s not totally dead but still) by a Reploid blinded by a thirst for power.
Yeah, I've beat the game without them but I've been tempted to turn them on quite a few times. Cyber elves helped me a lot though, and since you can keep your crystals after a game over, it was much easier to raise tier 2/3 elves (I just loved the one that made spikes and lava non-lethal)
i turned on save-assist, turned it off after entering the arena, and turned it back on after losing all my lives. it was the only way i could stay sane while learning his attack patterns.
It's funny, His first phase is actually pretty tough, dare-say the hardest of all phase 1 final bosses in the series next to Fused Weil. but then he becomes a total joke in his second phase and without a doubt the easiest final phase boss.
Seeing the illustrations that lead up to this battle makes me wish their was a Mega Man Zero manga in Nakayama's style Such a cool way to show off Elpizo's dramatic transformation with the console's limitations And the way the song lines up for when the cutscene ends and the battle actually starts is brilliant

Elpizo has one of the most disrespectful intros to a final boss. Not only does he destroy X's body, your century old friend, but then you quote Zero's long dead love interest in Iris talking about "A world for only Reploids being a paradise"
Overall, I think Zero 2 and 3 were when the music was at its peak for the series. Zero one was... Bleh, aside from Enemy Hall and Crash (ironically, the game with the least memorable soundtrack in the series had the best boss theme), and Zero 4 was just kinda... Weird. I dunno how to explain it, but the whole game felt oddly different from the rest of the series.

Listen to the story tracks they released for Z4 or look up videos with the tracks playing as the dialogue is being said in game. Hearing the dialogue before the final fight vs Weil honestly makes Z4 soooo much better

He cursed the Mother Elf, forcing X to sacrifice himself in the first place, and he's the one that made Omega manipulate the Reploids, making X expend his energy protecting the Resistance Base and protecting Zero from Omega's explosion. Elpizo was one of the biggest victims of Weil, with his weakness being taken advantage of by the Baby Elves to release the Dark Elf. If anything, Elpizo was right too. He knew from the start that Neo Arcadia would not just peacefully settle things once Ciel completed the alternate energy source.

It is also possibly a reference of "Project Elpis", Elpizo's Japanese name, Elpis (ελπις), is the personification and spirit of hope, perhaps a child of Nyx and mother of Pheme, the goddess of fame, renown and rumor. Hope was usually seen as an extension to suffering by the Greek, not as a good. It fits more to Elpizo's characteristics however.

X to Zero timeline is weird due to X5 originally being the end of the series before Capcom made X6 behind Inafune's back. And the 7 and 8 and Command Mission happened, 8 ending on a cliffhanger as to what happened to Axl after Lumine got a parting shot on him. All I can say is that Axl disappears at some point in X continuity, Zero goes to sleep while scientists research his body to create Mother Elf to cure the Maverick/Sigma/Zero Virus, Wiel steals ME and turns her into Dark Elf before causing the Elf Wars and wiping out tons of human & Reploid life, Zero reawakens to team up with X and stop him, Zero goes back to sleep while X turns into a Cyber Elf and uses his body to seal DE, leaving a Copy of himself and the 4 Guardians to take over while he's gone. Fast Forward to Zero 1, 2, 3, and finally 4 before going into the ZX series however many decades later.
Wow with this theme we can feel all the fury of Zero to see his friend being killed...

Well, I think this song reflects more Elpizo's power, rather than anything else.
Zero doesn't really have memories of X so he won't feel as much for his death. He is very aware that killing X will free the Dark Elf though
