    I had a 320 until I was 13. My cousin took me saltwater beach fishing and I got sand in it and it quit working. I had no idea how to fix it so bye bye it went. It was matched with an Eagle Claw Denco rod that I still have. It has weathered being slammed in a car door and and being rebuilt in 1977 in high school. At Mariner High near Everett we had what was called Mini-term. If we got our regular work done for the year we could take all kinds of fun electives like fishing, which was actually rod rebuilding, bowling, ice skating, backpacking, bicycling, etc. It was matched with a 300 after the 320 and caught me many trout. Now I hope to rebuild the rod again and give it to my grandson. Everyone, get your kids into the outdoors. Hunting, fishing, etc. Part of our troubles are because of kids spending all day inside in front of there phones and computers. I am also for my christian upbringing. Our country needs to get back to all this. Have fun outdoors everyone.

      You've said a lot and said it well! Thank you. I wish I had a rod building class! I can replace an eyelet in a very amateurish way, but I really appreciate those that have mastered the customer rod building. Your grandchild will have a treasure for years to come. Best wishes - Dennis

    *This reel seems to live up to the Mitchell name **allabout.wiki/i82n** it has to be one of the smoothest reels out there. This is an awesome ultralight/light reel. The only thing I would have like to seen them retain was the interchangeable spools like the old ones had, I miss that*

      The 320 and 324 were not my favorites in the Mitchell line up, but as you said, they are inexpensive and will last and last. - Dennis

    That Mitchell tool comes in two sizes for smaller and larger reels. Currently they cost $16.95 and $18.95 plus shipping respectively. Great video Dennis.

      Yes - I have both the saltwater and the Fresh water variety. The larger one has the forked screwdriver to remove the bail nut.

    I think the washer should be installed behind the gear cog inside the reel and not on the cog shaft outside the reel body....but I may be very wrong. B

    Well I just found a like new 320. I took it apart and serviced all just fine..the only mind bend is that dang bail spring. It looks so simple but my brain is not getting it. The spring ha two slots it can seat in at 10 and 2 o’clock and of course a hole for the spring on the bail. Which slot does it go back in and how do you load the spring tension?

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  Před 3 lety

      Frank - sometimes showing is easier than words, so I am going to post a video in a few minutes in answer to your question. It should be available on my channel shortly, so check back. The position of the inner spring arm is at the 2 o'clock slot. You may be wondering why the other slot is there. Mitchell uses the same rotor for the right hand and left hand cranks, so one slot is used for the right side drive and the other slot is used for the left side drive.

    You probably have a lot of ideas for youtube, but you should buy any new reels, strip them down and show mantinance on them. With all the new ones coming out, people will jump on the videos for a long time.

    The thing that's frustrating about the 320 is if the bail doesn't want to close on it's own, you can't simply slap it shut. This is because of the bail is designed to lock open in an unconventional way.

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  Před rokem +1

      Yes - A lot of the old reels used that locking trip lever so it cannot be easily closed manually.

    Hi Dennis, which of the Mitchell Reels are your top 3 favorites?

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  Před 4 lety

      I am partial to the 300 and the 308/408 and of course you can't beat the 302 in Saltwater. There were so many good Mitchell reels that were made. My choices have a lot of memories associated with them. - Dennis

    Hi can I use this reel for salt water fishing

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  Před 3 lety +2

      No - it is too lightweight for serious saltwater fishing. Mitchell had the 302 as a large standard of surfcasting and saltwater fishing. The next one that was a medium sized 306 and the last smallest one that could be easily used in saltwater was the 300. The 320, 308, 304 and other lightweights do best in freshwater - Dennis
