Over 40 years later and This Song still resonates loudly. It is Extremely sad. My prayer is that Nigeria can come back from this despicable event
Prayer has been answered. Time to act
What happened?
😀👍
Somethings never change
Nigeria, Africa will not come back from anything until it comes back to itself. Release itself from the hypnotism of colonialism and eurocentrism
Burna Boy has studied quite a lot Fela to mimic his voice to a large extent. That s a talented work. Fela never dies. If u agree, hit like.
👍
You're right... I can see that burner boy have picked a lot from him
Facts only
Fela is his inspiration
I have thought that Burna Boy to be his biological fathers??????
This guy was a prophet. He saw today. Let his songs be an inspiration for a new Nigeria 🇳🇬 ❤ cz he sacrificed also for it
Fela was passing a strong message to Africa not just Nigeria
I dedicate this track to everyone who came out on 20/10/20 to fight against injustice, corruption and bad leadership in Nigeria in general. And those who lost their lives in course of freedom in Nigeria, my heart goes out to their families and love ones.
The lyrics is just what happened in lekki on 20/10/2020 they killed and ran away leaving behind tears sorrow and blood as their regular trade mark # I love this song too much and I play it always # Rip Fela
So sad the main man behind the killing is the president imposed.
My body move involuntary, it's pure energy, good vibes, greetings from Brazil 🇧🇷✌️👽
It's in the gene, your spiritual connection to motherland AFRICA
😀👍
Some more greetings and thanks from Brazil, Fela is unforgettable

"Music is the weapon of the future," says Fela. That means this weapon is for now.
Music is the 'weapon' that channels anger into creativity. As such, it IS holiness.
not for now, weapon of the future, always...

@@victorbiebele6712 We can only hope, but the future is only one second away from us.
For anyone familiar with the history of Nigeria, the imagery that the tune evokes comes easy. Fela conveys the pain and anxiety felt by average Nigerians and oppressed people everywhere
And liberia, Sierra Leone and Ivory coast and all of Africa.

He's on the roots pantheon alongside his brother in struggle, Bob Marley. Dropping beats and laying down superb hooks, his word sound power is still resonating. He was a big figure. Hated by the powerful, loved by the people, he was Mandela w a horn. People need to wake up to him, especially in the USA. Total respects to his living memory.
I agree
we have been down with Fela since the late 1960s-70 remember we gave him black power books when he came to the USA massage to the black man black panther party, PanAfrican etc. Check out his interviews about his time in America. I first heard this song on Radio 702 (South Africa). The presenter, Richard Mwamba gave a good background introduction on Fela Kuti Anikulapo, and I fell in love with this talented and social justice activist. So relevant, universal, and powerful are the lyrics in this song
My grand children must listen to this song because it means a lot
I love the scenes depicted in this video. It's like documentary of Nigerians life in those days in anthropological perspective.
I have always loved Fela from my high school days in the seventies but years later 1985 to be exact I was driving home stuck in traffic and this song came on the radio, an unexpected delight as mainstream radio did not really play his music.....I had to pull over and surrender....was in tears by the end....this song still moves me same as Zombie, Gentleman chop and Quench, Carry me i want to die!

Those in power would never allow such songs to be played on radio. Two things that would help drive change in Nigeria;
1. When Nigerian/African History is been taught in Primary & Secondary schools to all students.
2. Fela's song been played on radio.
These two things would enlighten the younger generation & would drive them to do the needful.
And then, sir, after arming ourselves with knowledge of our history, naturally return their religions back to them and embrace our own divinities.
Peace to all sons of Shango and daughters of Ogun . Fela Anikulapo Kuti The Black President.

After the massacre at Lekki Toll Gate yesterday 20/10/2020 I just had to come back here and drop a comment 'çause right now, it's sorrow tears and blood on the streets of Nigeria. Government-ordered killings on peaceful protesters.
Oh, what a country!
Then who died there, you better go with your fake news here
Nigerian government never cease to disappoint, when it comes to doing insane things
@@helotemitope6746 Alright, I will indulge you. Let's say nobody died, according to you, right?
Are we also going to say live rounds were not fired into the multitude of unarmed protesters? Or the army was not at the toll gate as well? They didn't shoot into the crowd as well?
I would love to hear your own accurate news, since mine is fake.
First heard Fela in 96 my best friend had been working in Nigeria, he told me he had seen him live and brought back a copy of 2000 Black. That was it, I was hooked and I still am!
It’s 2020 and the Nigerian Government’s trademark is still sorrow, tears and blood.

He even mentioned your country in the song albeit it's old name Rhodesia. Zim will be great soon.

The girls were so beautiful. His music is magic
The London school of music best graduate....Fela viva!
A statement of fact...
@NEUF MARS he dropped from medical school he wanted to read medicine like his brothers so dropped out and went to london music school he didn't dropped out there.
You are right I understand he came to the UK to study Law but returned to Nigeria with trumpet or saxophone in his hands on arrival at the airport surprise!
...erm, Fela's pan-Africanist mother was his biggest inspiration, @NiroB - and he sure as hell didn't go around hugging criminal politicians. It is clear Sandra overstated her role - but we all love *that* narrative, don't we? After all, Fela was African. Right?😉
What fela is talking about then is relevant to now. That's why I listen to him because his messages hit home. I'm glad to have subscribe to baba Africa.

This is one my favorites from Fela. The syncopation lays such a beautiful foundation and some of his best lyrics as well. Them regular trademark.

The true son of mother Africa. My son, Olufela, I thank you as you never misrepresented me, your brothers, and sisters. I gave you the message in your sleep and you delivered the message through a medium that I, mother Africa so cherish and loved. My son, I wish you were alive to see the medium you created; the genie that you pioneered as now become world-recognized. Your grandchildren now use it to pass messages of love, and more to the world. Ose, omo mi. As you rest beneath me; be assured that your brothers shall get it right someday even though the pain I feel each day with the way I'm being treated is unbearable. Many of your brothers and sisters have derailed from the true Africanism and pan-Africanism that your older brothers envisioned. Don't let that disturb your sound sleep. I shall soon give birth to another generation that's likely to bring it to fruition. I hope my daughter your mother is resting well? Tell her, I sent my love, her mother, mother Africa.
Your Mother,
Mother Africa
Fela Ransome Kuti Was A "Prophet" & A "Guru" - A Dedicated Messanger From The All-Mighty CREATOR, Using His Music To Prophess The Future For His Beloved Citizens of Nigeria & Africa-In-General...I Love & Enjoy All of His Music Especially These Song's: "Sorrow, Tears & Blood", "Beast of No-Nation", "Army Arrangement" & "Lady"... And I Also Have A Greater Respect For Fela Ransome Kuti..."May His Humble Soul Rest-In-Peace, Eternally", Amen! Amen!!, Amen!!!
One of a kind, and some of the funkiest music I've ever heard... a true, living legend in his time... no one quite like him in the annals of pop/rock music... a complete outlier, not unlike Frank Zappa in that regard... that he got recognition beyond his obvious target audience. But if you're a drummer or guitarist or a composer.... how can you not be spellbound by this guy-----

I am newly-awakened to Fela. Having known of him for many years, I have just now been able to advance beyond Miles' electric period to see that, yes, this was the next step in the evolution. This has to be some of the most exciting, addictive music I've ever heard - I particularly love this song and the film that has been presented with it. Thank you so *very much* for your effort at putting this in front of a large audience - his catalog is initially confusing and dense from my American record-buying experiences and being able to just pick songs, listen, watch . . . wow. I love this music. Fantastic job!!!!

GUIDANCE
Fela Kuti i discovered in 1988.I was 18yrs old and a Chef at "Circa" a Restaurant in London's Mayfair.myself and Paul a close friend and fellow Chef would bring in a new Mixtape that we'd spent hours compiling for the shift.back then it really was a tape too.a c-90 Sony metal tapes were the best.on this particular Friday I blew Paul away by playing him a Frankie Knuckles mix from Kiss F.M. N.Y.C. in turn he left me gobsmacked with "Sorrow Tears & Blood" by the Master Fela Ransom Kuti
+Ian Girdlestone Awesome Ian, was this the radio version of Sorrow Tears & Blood? If it was the original version, then the Sony metal tape must be half-full from the one side with that song alone lol.
Thank you for the back story Ian, much appreciated. (y)
