Back in the day we had home economics where we learned to cook, bake, how to shop, sew and so forth.. It's not so prevalent now. Then you had shop class, drafting, wood working that taught you how to work with your hands, how to measure, how to fix things and so on. It's amazing to me how education and what's being emphasized has changed.
My sister. . .you're teaching, cooking and inspiring the 21st century generation . Just in case someone didn't learn they can't say social media denied the Quest from the Best! Sister ChrisCook4U2! 💘 U Lady! Continue leaving the nuggets of good southern cooking. Lest We Forget How We Got Over . . .
Good morning Miss Chris! Just wanted to let you know that you are a blessing to me each week. I always pull up something you‘ve cooked to help me better my cooking experience for my family. ( sometimes watching the same ones over and over again) Everything that you cook is so much like what I grew up with. Both my mother and grandmother has passed away and it’s good to have someone still teaching those old recipes. Just wanted to say thank you for doing what you do. Have a Blessed week. Tonya Kelly Jacksonville, Arkansas
Thank you for this video! It reminds me of the way my mama use to cook. I am so sorry I did not spend more time with her in the kitchen. She was an awesome cook and cooked for the family for decades. Unfortunately, she passed away in 2012. I miss her dearly.
Hamhocks and bacon grease kept on the back of the stove. Chris, you certainly brought back memories! (We kept our grease in a coffee can when I was growing up). I know those greens were delicious.
Beat collard greens I made. Made these for thanksgiving and my family loved it. Came back to this video today as im making them today for dinner. Thank you for blessing us with your teachings. ❤️
I enjoy seeing the different ways people make their greens. We didn't have a lot of meat in our greens, only enough ham hock to flavor them, and we seasoned with black pepper, apple cider vinegar, and a LOT of red pepper, and we still added Tabasco at the table. Virginia ham, black eyed peas, collards, and corn bread were like a Sunday ritual for us. Thanks for the upload.
Chris I really want to thank you for sharing your recipes and tips for cooking because so many people just never took the time to learn how to cook from their mothers and grandmothers so keep up the good work. Your recipes are always very good.
I used to work at a restaurant in North Carolina where I had the pleasure of meeting Miss Annie, she was a true Southern Cook like yourself. Also like you, she knew food inside and out, and took great pride in her cooking. I miss her soo much , but I'm glad you're here to teach me now. Thanks Soo much!! Bob
Thank you for comparing me to a cook you truly admire. I hope I can live up to such a compliment. I will always being my best to the table. Thanks for your comments. God Bless.
Your channel is Cooking 101 for those that didn't get that home training on how to prepare and cook good food! I watch whilst I'm at work and I make myself hungry! LOL!
Thank you for your teachings. Five generations of mothers taught me a lot about cooking! But some weren’t able to teach me collard greens before they passed. I’ll be able to make collard greens for my husband and my baby girl for New Year’s of 2024 thanks to you. Bless you.
I just want you to know that I watch all of your videos and you have really taught me so many new things in the kitchen! I am from Tx so I love my soul food!! You are the BEST cook on here by far ;) Bless you!
Miss Chris thank you so much for this video. I got 12 lbs of 'washed' turnip greens for next to nothing. I'm a seasoned canner. I like my greens to be really, really clean. I worked through them all day yesterday and have pressure canned them today with a bit of salt pork. Was able to can 9 quarts. You inspire me!
Hi Chris: I want to really thank you for taking your time and showing us step by step how to cook. You remind me of my momma and grannie in your style of cookin. I really just sit back, relax and pay close attention to you. You just take me home baby cos momma always had her bacon grease sittin on the stove. I remember my grannie putting greens in the washin machine LOL! I too cook mine just like you, I am also a Christian and I just love ya Chris. Your a very nice person. People like you are hard to come by. Gid bless you. kim

Like you and her I cook with my heart and it shows. We are old school and know that sometimes short cuts aren't always good. Keep cooking and making the world smile we're loving it !😘
I just found you Ms. Chris, and I am enjoying all your videos. I've been looking at them for the last 2-3 hours. You're really helping me get prepared for my Christmas dinner. Thank you sooo much.

Thanks again, Ma'am. I am going to cook this for New Year's dinner with leftover Christmas ham, black-eyed peas, and cornbread.I will watch your videos for these, too. You are an excellent teacher! (12/17/19.)
I have not made collard greens in ages. When I was thinking of making collard greens. I needed to turn to my favorite cook, Chriscook. Thank you for the lesson in cooking collards. I didn’t know how to prepare them until I watched this video. Now I’m Ready to cook my collard greens. Thanks.
In Brazil we usually wash the leaves before cutting them, but yours is a better method. To cut them and then wash seems a great deal easier, actually. Will try it next time I make it. Thank you for the video and tips.
Thank you Chris! I learned something new today on how to season my greens even better, Lipton Onion Soup Mix! Normally, I dice up some onions, garlic and a jalapeno pepper. I love using Fat Back, because I LOVE eating the skins after frying them up. Like you I use my leftover ham bone, with extra meat on it, therefore I don't use ham hocks, just the big ham bone and fried Salt pork! You're lucky I don't live close by, or else you would have a regular visitor, and I would DEFINITELY HELP you clean those greens, as you clean yours as I do mine in salt water, killing off those bugs!
Ms. Chris every so often I watch your videos to get a better idea of how long to cook and prepare the meals, not to mention try your recipes, especially around the holidays... I most say its like cooking with my grandma when I do who is know longer with us, you have really help me become a better and skilled cook... and I really want to thank you so much for your videos...Oh and my husband says thanks too lol... We love you so much.....Happy Holidays to you and your family!!
Love your videos. I am an amateur cook who just worries about feeding myself. With that in mind, how I cleaned my greens was to put them in several sweater bags and put them in the washing machine with the proper water temperature on low agitation and wash them. Boy did they come out clean. 😀 Thought you might enjoy my journey as an amateur cook who cooks only for themselves.
Thank you for sharing how we cook with simple excellence and love. I know how to cook from being in kitchen with my Mom since I was 10. Looking at you reminds me of her,she and Grandma with God. So,love you much.
