  • Indian actor Dev Anand speaks about his struggle to become an actor, he says, "My father was a great lawyer of his own times in a place called Gurdaspur, Gurdaspur was in the news these days, the border town between India and Pakistan. I did my first schooling in Gurdaspur which is in Gurdaspur and Dalhousie. I used to be in school in Gurdaspur during summer and shift to Dalhousie, a hill station in convent and then I did my matriculation in Gurdaspur and then I went to Dharamshala which is in Himachal and then to Lahore for my graduation. After my graduation, I had not been there because I decided to come away be on my own. I want to be known to the world and when you have people around you who pull you down to their own affiliations and affections and persuade you to do something that you do not want to do then you can;t really achieve something so I had the smell of different places and I had the wanderlust I wanted to do something I just relieved its effect literally with 30 rupees in my pocket I came to Bombay I had no more than 30 rupees in my pocket. The only possessions I had with more than one would stamp collection of the philatelist and which I sold on the road to a pavement seller because I needed money. I used to walk and I had no job, I did a job for 60 rupees a month, I started in ten days then I did a job of 85 rupees a month and chucked it in five days then I did a job for military sensors for one year and three months which I chucked because I thought if I keep doing this job I'll lose all that I have in terms of my restlessness, I am basically very restless.

    Ladies heart-throb. Way back in 1960s, I was in Old Delhi. DËV Saheb’s film “TERE GHAR KE SAAMNE” was released at ODEAN cinema. We cousins went for his first day first show at 12noon. All six days the first show was booked for ladies only. Trains full of ladies came from north India, just for them to see the film everyday. SPECTACULAR. We could get to see the film only in the second week! No actor can ever be compared to him as far as STYLE is concerned.

    He was a gentleman. A man of his words and always was idealistically clear what he wanted to do. Something different and when people started comparing him with Gregory peck, all he said I have my own identity. I am Dev Anand. What a distinct legend

    It just a bit of his time. If you really want to know and admire Legendary Dev Ananad Ji you must have a look of his book- Romance with life.
    I highly recommend you to read and you will know how enlightened man he was. The book is full of adventures all up and down he had been gone through.

    I always liked Dev Anand more because of his buoyancy. His style emanated from this buoyancy - be it the way he tilted his head and smiled, the vibrations in his dialogue delivery or just the way he walked so leisurely.

    He is being ungrateful to the memory of Suraiya by saying that their relationship did not lead to marriage for the sake of his career. Anyway, he married Kalpana Kartik only after 3 years in 1954. Maybe, he never forgave Suraiya for not marrying him in 1951.

    • @sv0366
      @sv0366 Před 3 lety +1

      I would not agree with your view. Having read his autobiography, I can say that he was emotionally involved with Suraiya at one point of time. It was hard for him overcome the sorrow...

    • @vijaykumarjai8482
      @vijaykumarjai8482 Před 3 lety +1

      I also believe it was good for him that he didn't marry Suraiya. She was a bigger star and he would remained in her shadow and would be called Suraiya's husband.
