I think the reason why this set had no 4WD is because most american pickup trucks aren't designed to go offroad. Pickup trucks over there are designed to transport large and bulky loads for example the Ford F150. Nice review though and I do like the angry hamster theme. :)
This is very nice set with all the detail on it and it nearly resembles the Dodge Power Wagon, the tipping bed is my favorite feature on this set but then again its not 4WD, considering that this resembles an American truck, the rear drive setup is forgiven, most roads here in the US are paved and trucks are designed mainly to haul heavy stuff. I tried the wheels and tires from the Unimog 8110 set and they fit and work well on this truck without even bumping into the rear wheel well. Great set, nice review Sariel!
Great write ups on all your lego builds. I actually bought this truck just because of your CZcams video. I'm actually modifying mine. I added bigger control arms, and double shocks. Also much bigger tires from the tractor technic set. Mine will have around 2000 pieces when done.
If you take out the thin 1x5 lift arm behind the wheels the turning radius is increased by a good amount and nothing else really changes also you could put them behind the cabin.
It's odd there were only 3 models for 2H14, and that the bulldozer came so much earlier. Great to see lego is still sending the new sets, keep it up sariel!
im gonna get he set because i want the suspension and more pieces for the engine because i just have the tow truck set and a few odds and ends from the RC off road crawler this hopefully will get me enough to build a car with at least a body
Hey serial love your vids keep making them. Anyway I've bought two of these and I reckon u should build the b model but its your choice and a quick question should I by a some new shocks for my 9398 rock crawler because they are stuck in their positions and I'm not sure wether to wash them or buy new ones plz reply thanks
sariel, i noticed that with the way the linear actuator is setup on the cargo hold lets you put rubber bands on the actuator so that it counteracts the wieght of the cargo hold, so it requires less effort to raise. We use rubber bands in the robotics competition I attend to act as counterwieghts for arms. You can see it on my channel. Also great reviews, IMO they're the best.
Can someone tell me why my winch on my set is so stiff when turning the gear?I feel like something is running against the axle of the winch but don’t know where and how to fix it.Help
Thank you for a great review, a question about the Hubs, can they support a large amount of weight and can you insert a cross axle into them for use in a live axle setup?
Sariel's LEGO® Technic Den Thanks, in fact they are two great sets! But after seeing your last review, I must admit that the B model of the 42039 is very interesting.
10:21 and to fix that you do what you do irl...remove that section of the bed, honestly if I built this as a crawler and used the power push wheels, I would completely overhaul the bed design by giving it dovetail fenders
Hey sariel, great review. Out of curiosity, I am currently trying to make a modification to my 8466 due to that the current suspension is sagging really badly and doesn't even return to the top without being lifted up by hand. Do you think that this model's very impressive suspension system could be retrofitted to the 8466 and if so are there any parts you would recommend to add to make it better? Also if you don't mind, which set did those larger tires come with? They would be great for some future projects I am currently prototyping or even just adding them on to this model like you did with some custom fenders of course.
The larger tires come from the Power Puller set and they're the same size as 8466 tires. If your 8466 is sagging, and assuming you had this set for a few years, the first thing I would do is changing the shock absorbers for new ones. It's possible that springs in yours got deformed.
Sariel's custom LEGO Technic creations I figured that was the case with the absorbers. I actually got the set off of ebay a few years ago so it wasn't exactly brand new when I got it. I would like to actually upgrade the suspension system to be even better and I was curious since you are a custom creation pro, would this set's system be a good upgrade for the model and are there any parts if possible that you would recommend to make it even more effective?
I dont think this would be suitable for an upgrade, I have 8466 too and this setup is basically the same, just with shorter and softer shock-absorbers. I had the same issue, with saggy shocks, i just put unimog/crawler shocks on (they are harder) and if that still doesn't work, try exchanging the 7L beam thats supports the front shocks for a 9L, it helps support the weight. I hope this helps you!
max neale Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a try. I just love the classic technic sets and I find it fun to "modernize" them if at all possible to make them even better. I am actually considering if I can get the right parts attempting a pneumatic suspension on the 8466 as a test for both a softer and height adjustable suspension that could also be used to upgrade an 8880 into a partial off-roader if I can get my hands on one.
The problem with this is the wheels are too separated from the body. They should be a lot closer to the chassis for the truck to look nice but I'm not so technically minded and I wouldn't know how to do that. Otherwise I really like this set.
Hi sariel, what model do you recommend? This one or volvo 42030? In my opinion there are both a great models but 42030 is very expensive!!! What's your opinion? Thanks
Like you said, these are different sets in terms of price and target, This is a nice model with no advanced stuff, while the Volvo is full of useful Power Functions elements. If you can afford it, the Volvo has certainly better play value.
Sariel's custom LEGO Technic creations thanks for your answer, but i have already got other models with a lot of power functions, like 8043 (which is similar to volvo) and i think that 42029 is a very good looking model. I don't mind if it hasn't got power functions. What do you think?
Hi.i have a lego set 42029 cargo plane and 42028 mobile crane mk2.they have been lying about for a while,so i decided to clean them, but I fear damaging the motors.plz help.
Sariel, why is 4WD better, than RWD? I have the 4WD 8880 and this (and the RWD 8070 as well) and I can't see the difference. Only, that the 8880 is more difficult to push, specially in Gear 1.
+MyFrostee Um... when do you think it's easier to get out when you get stuck: with 2 wheels working and 2 doing nothing or with 4 wheels working? I imagine it's hard to see the difference without going off-road.
Pzdr.
Great looking set, but the engine makes no sense. A V6 with individual throttle bodies (or triple deuce carbs?) with stacks on the exhaust driving what looks like 44 inch tires. The effect is cool, but it doesn't logically make any sense.
rawux1228 Look, I understand that everybody wants free stuff. But I had to spend years building YT channel that has over 700,000 views per month to even be considered. Asking nicely is not enough.
I love the hamster in the build!
Best technic set ever!
I think the reason why this set had no 4WD is because most american pickup trucks aren't designed to go offroad. Pickup trucks over there are designed to transport large and bulky loads for example the Ford F150. Nice review though and I do like the angry hamster theme. :)
Or they were just trying to make this set fit within the designated budget.
"Most American trucks aren't designed to go offroad" Apparently you've never even touched an American truck. 90% of them are offroad capable.
Dude thats funny... The only trucks in america that arent 4 wheel drive are Fords line of Sx4's
This is very nice set with all the detail on it and it nearly resembles the Dodge Power Wagon, the tipping bed is my favorite feature on this set but then again its not 4WD, considering that this resembles an American truck, the rear drive setup is forgiven, most roads here in the US are paved and trucks are designed mainly to haul heavy stuff.

im very interested in the things u create, awesome ^^ keep up the good work dude
If you take out the thin 1x5 lift arm behind the wheels the turning radius is increased by a good amount and nothing else really changes also you could put them behind the cabin.

Nice review!
he loks so great I 'll buy it asap
Probably one of the best models from this wave of model line-ups! AWESOME :)
Thank you!
Thank you very much for your advices, you really helped me out!!! You're the best lego youtuber!
Great set! There is work to do. From this perspective, for me it is much more interesting than 42030
it would be really cool to see you fully motorize the set that are not fully motorized
The "angry hamster" joke makes me lol =))))
I always love a good technical set, and this is no exeption
I put the moterized kit on with this truck and can you post a vid or tell me how to take it off
Superb .. as always! ;)
but, practically, and in a few words, such as set must be taken in addition to the 42029 and 8878?
wow it' s a very good joob
Sick

lol are you talking about VEX robotics?
Yes XP
Stanley Shi
omg I do VEX too!!!
it looks a lot like the dodge powerwagon in terms of appearance and functions
any thought on getting it to drive via remote control. Is this modification easy to do for a newbie to Technic building
You right i am buying 9398 and 8110 unimog, both of'em
Can someone tell me why my winch on my set is so stiff when turning the gear?I feel like something is running against the axle of the winch but don’t know where and how to fix it.Help
I would buy this, build it, and then brake it the day after I built it XD
Yes at the first august
"angry Hamster" haha =)
i have it its my best model ever
Man, i love flared wheel arches, you looking forward to the upcoming 2015 line?
Great job Sariel! On your opinion what tires are better: PP or unimog?
Unimog. The PP tires eat torque like crazy.
Thank you for a great review, a question about the Hubs, can they support a large amount of weight and can you insert a cross axle into them for use in a live axle setup?
Yes and yes.
damn it! it was 69,99 euros a week ago on Amazon, but I waited for your reveiw. now it's 89,99 again :(
Hello
In these models to give the kit to be with remote control?
Hi Sariel's LEGO® Technic Den, which one would you suggest between this and the newest 42039, in a comparison of look/functions/details?
I would suggest this.
Sariel's LEGO® Technic Den Thanks, in fact they are two great sets! But after seeing your last review, I must admit that the B model of the 42039 is very interesting.
the set is fun
I know but I got for Christmas my dad for 99 dollar s so he is mad at but now he not anymore
also its has mods like cool mods
+Victor Burris i know
I already motorized
this
1:43 that piece also have in 8258
Sariel your estimates for the building time is slightly off or it's just you build really fast
10:21 and to fix that you do what you do irl...remove that section of the bed, honestly if I built this as a crawler and used the power push wheels, I would completely overhaul the bed design by giving it dovetail fenders

I don't know if this is a good idea or not, but do you think i should take this set apart and build a Polaris RZR?
Evan Zachary did you ever do it?
With remote control
I bought this and it took me 3 days, (5 hours each)
jej nowy film :D
I would be going to get this set on toymaster
Woh its eggcellent
You should build the b-model and do a review!
The instruction is not available yet, and I think I'll pass.
Sariel, you think that unimog tires are better for climbing objects?
Depends on objects. Power Puller tires are good, but only if you have like super-extra-strong motors.
It includes the batry box , motor and lights for roof ?
No, as clearly shown in the video. I suggest watching it.
Hi sariel, what model do you recommend? This one or volvo 42030? In my opinion there are both a great models but 42030 is very expensive!!! What's your opinion? Thanks

TechnicReview I think you just answered yourself.
Do ya think i could stuff a large motor and a servo alongside a battery box and receiver
in there? PLZ reply kinda quick
+Angelo Paraskeva I think I have your back: czcams.com/video/jdZ35JT3LvU/video.html
Sariel's LEGO® Technic Den Oh... i havent seen that video :D sorry if i bothered you have a nice day
Now i am sure to buy 8110 unimog set instead of 8466 4×4 off-roader
Actually, I think 9398 Crawler is more fun, and with better parts.
I have this set
you should try to motorize the model, Sariel.
And maybe alter the drive train to be 4 wheel drive.
That would be cool.
I'm tempted to do that, but then people will murder me if I don't make instructions.
Well then.
Enough people will be doing that. It won't be long before an RC version is on rebrickable!
So, why won't you make instructions??
ThinkCleverAndSmart Because that would take a few weeks of work. And I'm kind of busy.
Hi.i have a lego set 42029 cargo plane and 42028 mobile crane mk2.they have been lying about for a while,so i decided to clean them, but I fear damaging the motors.plz help.
Then take the motors out. It's Lego, it can be taken apart and put together again.
Thx
is it possible to use a rc system from a rc car to power my Technic creations
I'm sure it is, people do that sometimes. Don't ask me how, I wouldn't know.
thank you
imagine this thing with AWD and buggy motors, jesus christ im drooling,
Hi,what are the part numbers for these tires and rims?
Here's the complete inventory of the entire set: www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=42029-1
For released, you said 2H2014
I had but I destroy it for parts so I m re building it
what's better in your opinion? this or the 42037 set?
+Yuan Del Carmen Everything is better than the 42037 set.
Would u do 42006 I saw it on the maket and I need ur points to sould or sould I not buy it
Sorry, I don't have 42006.
Sariel's custom LEGO Technic creations well itnis ok then
hey guis dose anyone know when this model will be on sale?
I thing now
I just looked on lego.com and it says that the set is 99.99 USD.
Are you going to do a review of the b-model?
No.
2:23how did I build this thing
matteen Ahmed same
Sariel, why is 4WD better, than RWD? I have the 4WD 8880 and this (and the RWD 8070 as well) and I can't see the difference. Only, that the 8880 is more difficult to push, specially in Gear 1.
+MyFrostee Um... when do you think it's easier to get out when you get stuck: with 2 wheels working and 2 doing nothing or with 4 wheels working? I imagine it's hard to see the difference without going off-road.
I get it.
But then the 4WD is only beneficial when driving the vehicle remotely, right?
MyFrostee It sure is of no use when you drive it by hand, correct.
Sariel's LEGO® Technic Den Well, if it isn't the extra differential and gears you get for the front drive :D
what does the power puller set come with besides the wheels
+Suzan Stojanovski Here: www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=8457-1
+Sariel's LEGO® Technic Den thx
+Sariel's LEGO® Technic Den im having so much fun with this
Sariel do u know when this is set will be realeased in Canada? I really want to get this set it look awesome
Sorry, I don't know. Release dates vary between regions.
How do you get the sets before they comes out?
ThinkCleverAndSmart Think clever and smart and watch the video to the end.
Ok.
In which date will lego 42029 and lego 42030 release?
I guess in the next few months depending on region.
"Clearly inspired by the giant US pick-up trucks."
LOL
XD
Damn, should have bought it at the time :(
You can still buy it second-hand. Try Bricklink, for example.
это круто набор куплю
Does the set come with motors
NO.
And in bricklink.com shipping is worldwide,Sariel?
That depends on individual seller. Bricklink has a huge Help section, maybe you should start there.

My mistake. The bigger tires and rims, thanks.
How about you try this: wheels.sariel.pl/
How about putting the new awesome Xerion wheels on it :D
Probably too big to fit.
Too bad :(
Is this a good model ? Please reply sariel
Yes, it's quite a fun model, and a great source of pieces.
How do you make the evaluation at the end?
Using my best personal judgement.
Sariel's custom LEGO Technic creations Of course but I wanted to know with wich program :p
Marius' Creations Surprise, Photoshop.
The mouse is so ciute
Zbuduj Merca G63 6x6.
Come on Lego, an American truck with a V-6?
It is just a sensible one. :) And it clearly can't be American. It has fully independent suspension. And no leaf springs.
Did you know that the Chevy silverado LS model has a v-6?
Chris Willis F-150 too
where did you get the power puller wheels
+Suzan Stojanovski From the Power Puller set. That's why they're called Power Puller wheels.
+Sariel's LEGO® Technic Den ok
+Sariel's LEGO® Technic Den and the old suv truck off rode too ☺☺
+Suzan Stojanovski hi
+Sariel's LEGO® Technic Den arent the power puller wheels the largest lego has made
Sariel, is brickowl.com is good for ordering parts?
I have no idea, I never ordered from there.
ITS THE BEST!!!
I thought that the hamster was abducting the pieces
Not a hamster, genius! It's a grizzly! If you don't believe me watch the offical review of it.
You know he was joking right, right?
The stickers are Not hámsters, they're bears
Clearly you've never seen an angry hamster ;)
Uważaj bo Ci chomik klocka postawi xd
Great looking set, but the engine makes no sense. A V6 with individual throttle bodies (or triple deuce carbs?) with stacks on the exhaust driving what looks like 44 inch tires. The effect is cool, but it doesn't logically make any sense.
Sariel fajny rower i słodki chomik
I mam do ciebie pytanie czemu nie dajesz też polskiego tłumaczenia?
Bo Polacy to w porywach 7% moich oglądających. Statystycznie prędzej powinienem zrobić tłumaczenie na niemiecki i francuski.
Ok spoko
Co w następnym filmie będzie??
Lizaczek Na bank jeszcze nie wiem, ale generalnie polecam: sariel.pl/future-projects/
Coś z tych modeli zrobisz ? Czy może już masz zrobione?
now make it an R/C car
did lego let you keep the set after review?
Yes, of course.
Sariel's custom LEGO Technic creations
Ok and one more question, how you become a partners with lego company?
rawux1228 No idea.
Sariel's custom LEGO Technic creations
so they asked you to do reviews?
rawux1228 Look, I understand that everybody wants free stuff. But I had to spend years building YT channel that has over 700,000 views per month to even be considered. Asking nicely is not enough.
instruction booklet says not to combine the bags into one pile...savage
