    I'm 75 years old and I watch two kinds of youtube channels; Car recoveries/ or getting old cars running. The other youtubes I watch are about single women complaining there are no good men out there. Since I'm a guy who has always loved cars but could never repair them, I was absolutely impressed with your knowledge of the Subaru and you ability to get it up and running. You're one of those guys who can FIX THINGS; a badly need skill in our society. I actually think you'd probably make some lady a very good husband given half the chance. BUT, would women on dating apps actually give you a chance or would they blow you off because you appear to be a blue collar guy who fixes old and dirty cars.

    Without the filter cover the carb has massive vacuum leak and won’t run or run well.
    Less than 12v = no running (spark)
    Thanks :)

    Those fuel pumps are one of the easiest to do and can be replaced with a low pressure in-line pump from autozone. I personally love them. Those old subarus are easy to work on and are usually really easy to get going again.

    I never see you pump the accelerator pump. The jets are usually dirty, so it is usually too lean and it helps to make use of the accelerator pump if you can, plus hearing it tells you there is fuel in the float bowl.

    It was idling just under the 750rpm mark. Subarus skip the lower numbers on their speedometers and tachs for some reason. It didn't need the rpms increased. Also some of the ea81 engines had hydralic lifters and there is usually a tag on it.

    • @subarute9304
      @subarute9304  Před 10 měsíci +1

    • @subarute9304
      @subarute9304  Před 10 měsíci +2

      I turned the idle up because off camera it kept puttering and dying, most likely because of the old fuel, so I turned the idle up to compensate. We’ve since cleaned the carb and ran fresh fuel through it and turned the idle back down

Any advice for what subaru transmission to try and swap into it? I thought about just throwing the same year L-Series tranny in there with the 4spd, what do you think? Ive been told just to upgrade to the early model impreza tranny with the 5spd.

My father had a nearly new 1976 Subaru wagon, and by 1981, you could polk holes in the fenders w your fingers and see the road through certain areas of the floor boards. Every now and then, as a tiny kid, I'd get a refreshing splash of grimy road slush that traveled up from underneath into the interior of the car.
