The Labour Files - The Forde Response I Al Jazeera Investigations

  • In July 2022, independent barrister Martin Forde KC produced a report on racism and factionalism in the British Labour Party. Commissioned by the party leader, Keir Starmer, it identified what it called a “hierarchy of racism”, with antisemitism taken more seriously within the Party than other forms of racism.
Now Forde speaks publicly for the first time to Al Jazeera’s Investigative Unit. He reveals he has heard almost nothing from the Labour Party since the report was published. And he says he resisted pressure from the BBC to remove criticism of its 2019 Panorama documentary, Is Labour Anti-Semitic?
Forde said he felt “vindicated” by the I-Unit investigation, The Labour Files, which he found fascinating. Released in September 2022, the investigation revealed the inner workings of Britain’s opposition party, which many believe will form the next government.

According to the EHRC definition, dislike of the Israeli government is only a racist offence if it is functioning as a veil or screen for some sort of irrational hatred of Jews. So even if the young man in question was asked, "Are you from Israel?" (on the face of it, implausible), there is still no sense in which that would be a racist question. For it to be so would require the bizarre construction the man himself seems to have put on it. In fact, Ms Bird would have to be assuming that the Labour Party, of which she was a member, was being manipulated at the highest level by Israel. But if she believed that and were actually anti-Semitic, why on earth would she have joined the Labour party or wished to remain a member of it? Nonsense from start to finish.

There's a further problem, that if it is true that Israel has far too much influence at Southside, it is now impossible for anyone to say so. I was put under investigation for questioning the amount of influence wielded by the Board of Deputies (left before I was pushed, and thank God I did) - how much worse would it be to question the Israeli connection. One of Starmer's closest associates (besides being a slimeball of the first order) actually works for an Israeli govt organisation, and is widely believed to be the inside man referred to in a recorded interview with an Israeli diplomat. But people don't dare believe that the whole anti-semitism thing was cooked up, because they would have to admit that they have been definitively fooled.

To take just one incident from the panorama programme, why would any objective broadcaster take as an absolute truth the word of One individual (Westerman) against that of Two individuals without checking the facts, Westerman has no evidence, it's just an allegation, that he thought he could make without the truth coming out. What Jewish person would be dumb enough at their age to presume some other Jewish person was Israeli just because they're Jewish? It literally makes no sense.
Plus, obviously, the recording shows quite clearly that the exchange was misrepresented "What branch of the Party are you from?" is the question and then they talk about something else... John Ware expects people to believe that the people in the room finished their conversation and on the way out the door, stopped recording and then repeated an exchange they had just had almost word for word with key words swapped out, just to make it racist.

The full recording made by the two women should probably be played if it continued. But even were the question asked from these two older Jewish ladies of a young Jewish man if 'he was from Isreal' to make this evidence of indicative of AS wihin the Labour party and more to the point that Corbyn should be held to account for what at worst appears to be a tactless remark - which the women deny even making - is madness. And the individual concerned chooses not to put any context in his testimony out if fairness to all parties so the viewer can decide its relevance. And moreover, this incident - two old Jewish ladies asking him if was from Israel, which again they deny - is the one he chooses to single out from his rampant exposure to AS within the Labour party?
The BBC can say "ah yes but ast the end of the recording" but how about they admit the context would have altered the viewers perception - and make clear the two Jewish ladies deny even asking the question. The majority of the public would see this as a complete non-story, even if the ladies had asked him. It might have been tactless but even if as asserted it was two Jewish people asking another Jewish person if they were from Israel. And that was contributory evidence of Jeremy Corbyn's tolerance of AS in the labour party?
Noam Chomksy declared it to have been "a complete fraud'.
And the Tories don't attack Starmer for cherry picking their reports - completely ignoring the Forde report. AL Jazeera have provided an abundance of much needed ammunition for the Tories to attack Labour yet they don't use it? Why, because they want Corbyn's ideas buried as much as Starmer's Labour do - they'd rather lose the election it seems than risk resurrecting Corbyn's movement and to countenance implementing measures for a fairer society through wealth redistribution.

What is not often given any attention is what Forde says about the majority of Labour staffers at the beginning of his report. He was not able to interview them because they threatened legal proceedings against him personally (despite the fact that he had been hired by the party) if he said anything about them. He could not report on accusations against them without giving them the right to reply, but they wouldn't talk. I wonder whether at that point he should have demanded a change in his Terms of Reference because it meant that a whole mass of anti-Corbyn activity (some of it illegal) was not examined.

      @MapleTea Před rokem +1

Yes, this is really important. Starmer paid large sums in damages (a 'six figure sum') out to the Panorama 'whistleblowers' despite legal advice that the Labour party would win the case. Starmer chose instead the make the apology on behalf on the party and pay out thousands of pounds of members' money. Coincidentally this happened to suit his narrative that Corbyn was an unfit leader, that the left of the party are very nad people, and theat he needed to come in and purge the left out of existence.

This whole Labour Files series is so important historically. In future, when a socialist once again has a chance at power, I hope this will be widely shared to remind those fickle, forgetful, ignorant or young enough to believe the right-wing/liberal Labour lies that there are no depths to which they will not sink. They are as much the enemy of the working class as the Tories, except they wear sheep's clothing.

Forde looks well for his age, unless he became a barrister while still in nappies.
Eight minutes in demonstrates what a disgrace John Ware's Panorama episode was, but because some hotheads, or one at least, made a criticism that couldn't be sustained, and so was successfully sued, by implication, *nobody* has a case against Ware.
So I'll say it bluntly, Seamus Milne's email *was* misrepresented for partisan effect, and if Ware wants to sue me over that, he's welcome to.
And it's my opinion that the Westerman dialogue was introduced to create a false narrative, but as I've said previously, anyone dealing with these people would be wise to keep recording until they've left the office, walked down the stairs, and are on the street, recording traffic sounds instead.

He should talk to me, and I'll tell him all about the completely-biased 'Goodyear Report', on the 2017 Don Valley AGM debacle, at which Rt Hon.Caroline Flint MP showed very low character.
I've read the original leaked report, and the final document; Forde was played, and for all his expertise, comes across as naive; unable to accept that the acceptance of the IHRA 'examples' were only part of a game, to expel Socialists, and true lifelong anti-racists, from the Labour Party. Where were the mentions of Sir Trevor Chinn and Sir David Garrard stuffing the pockets of the PLP - Watson, Umunna, Austin, Woodcock, Smeeth et al - right before they'd make up another fraudulent claim of harassment on Breakfast TV/LBC etc?
