Thank you. This is easily the best explanation of the French bow technique I've ever heard. I return to it again and again. I owe you a debt of gratitude.

    Dear Professor Thomas,
Thank you very much for your very interesting and useful lecture. In addition, I would like to hear your opinion on resolving the main problem with the French bow-the reduction of natural weight as you move towards the tip of the bow. Some professors advise compensating for this loss of weight by physically pressing the bow into the string, which negatively affects the quality of sound and causes natural physical fatigue.
However, there is another way to avoid this problem. As you move the bow towards the tip, the wrist turns counterclockwise, causing the elbow to rise. With the elbow raised, the natural weight of the right arm increases, and no physical effort is required. On the return movement towards the frog, the wrist turns clockwise. The natural weight of the arm decreases, and unwanted crescendos are avoided. Moreover, this technique helps in making inaudible bow changes.
I would greatly appreciate your response, as Your opinion is very important to me. Thank you.
    Sincerely,
    Vladimir

    Very good Tom,thank you!
Exactly like Bottesini did, it is explained in its original metodo per contrabbasso.
I keep the bow in the same way.
    Hope to see you soon!
    Best wishes

Thank you sir. I have watched the episodes until Ep.4. I was wondering if you were planning on continuing this magnificient series. If so, may I suggest that you include on this topic how to rosin a bow, from the first time to a routine?
I was also curious which instrument you were using on the other videos of this series? I guessed it was a Martin model, right?

Thank you for this informative video. It makes me comforted that I'm not playing an easy instrument when you tell the comparison with the violin bow. 1:05 3 meter long bow! Pencil length! I never thought about this before.

The French Bow looks like a Violin bow because of its shape but it's bigger.

Why is placing your pinky on top of the bow, like a violin hold, wrong? I feels like it counterbalances the fulcrum perfectly.

You can use double bass for any music that is not heavily amplified . Acoustic bass sounds fantastic with hip hop, jazz, reggae, and folk music.

@@3340steve I am into psychobilly music, and that is what I wish to learn on the double bass.I use eurosonic strings...they do not work well with a bow..I like to play slap style.

That lifted my view and way of thinking -playing. Noice. Thanks. I see most of the basses there are very "angled" and tall at the neckjoint. I just made a homemade contrabass so... I might have fucked it up. It sounds nice but quite different from those. Never even held a contrabass before making it. hehe

why does the video show terrible angle shots that just don't help when he is demonstrating or something with his hand and bowing?
