This coffee bar / mini fridge table is an easy project for beginner woodworkers looking to make some DIY furniture. Everything was constructed with basic materials from the big box stores (2x4's and 2x6's). In the video, I used a planer and jointer, but that was personal preference and is not needed for this project. This is a great piece to put in your home to store a mini fridge and display your coffee maker and cups. The top received a dark walnut stain (I applied pre-stain conditioner beforehand) with a top coat of an oil-based polyurethane. The base was painted with Urethane Alkyd Semi-Gloss Enamel, in white. I was very happy with the way this coffee bar turned out and my clients were super excited as well. - Jak na to + styl

I like this project and its like you are reading my mind..Thank you.I wish i would be your friend to get a gift like this😊
I really like it, but could have used a better look at the finished product. There are some good close up shots, but the video fades out before you can see the whole thing.
the author does like to from scratch, shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. czcams.com/users/postUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ as another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us dont have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we wont be able to practice the full stack project, is still great.
This table arrived well packaged and on time. czcams.com/users/postUgkxn94T8Mu1iMnsLCMNOI9srXSsLkI4JXKW Like another reviewer advised, I pulled everything out and made sure everything was included (everything was!). I built it alone and it took me about an hour. The color is great and for the price the lift part works well. As others have mentioned, it’s not the smoothest opening/closing, but it works. The screws do show, but I plan to order white sticker covers if that bothers us too much. Really happy with this table! UPDATE: it’s been over a year since we got this coffee table and we still love it! It gets HEAVY use as our dining table, foot rest, and school desk. Over time, the opening and closing mechanism has gotten smoother. I added a new photo with the white screw cover stickers. They blend in perfectly and make it look a little cleaner. 100% recommend!!!
Thank you for not forgetting about the people who don’t have all the tools!!! Really appreciate that!!!!
Of course - I hope it was helpful!
Came nicely packaged! Amazing Product!! Would buy again. Love it.
Turned out great!! Thanks for sharing your time and talent!!
Thanks for watching!
Thank God my twin brother became a Builder and myself became a Painter so together we build. I would have never thought it was so much work on one thing.
Great video! Nothing is impossible. Everything is possible! 🎉
Thank you so much, gave me the confidence to try this build!
That's awesome! Hope everything goes nice and smooth.
Love this man. There are always a bunch of challenges with any build. I like that you address some of them and give your solutions.
Thank you! Yeah, I want everyone to know these builds on CZcams don't always go according to plan!
Thank you for your response. You did an amazing job on that. I am sure your friend was very happy!
They loved it!
I really like the way that came out. I’m definitely going to try to make one.
Thanks Juan! Make sure to tag me on Instagram if you do, would love to see how it turns out!
Wow ,looks so nice 👍!!
love this! It looks great! Im a complete novice & want to do something similar when I move to my new house soon. Thanks for remembering the people who may not have all the tools (me - lol). I hope my table comes out close to what you made! Thanks for making this vid!
I'm sure yours will come out great! Make sure to send me a picture of it when you're done!
Wow, craftmanship at its finest. Nicely explained! Cant wait to attempt this. Props to you sir!
Thank you!
Nice work. Watched several of your videos. You’re doing great work both with the woodwork and the video editing. Good job.
Thank you!
Wow, that's not DIY, that's more like DIYProfessionally. Amazing craftsmanship! Very envious.
Thank you for your explanations and errors!! Looking at purchasing a joiner and planer in the near future. Would love to make my projects cleaner and want to know more on how to use those before I buy.
They're great tools and there's a ton of videos on YT on how to use them. Good luck!
I'm brand new to woodworking but have been really enjoying your videos. Keep up the great work!
Thanks Ian! I'll try!
That looks awesome. Great instructions on the video. My wife wants me to make a bar for our kitchen
Thanks! That should be a fun build - it's amazing what you can make standard 2x4s
Nicely done and explained. End product was perfect!
Thanks Tom!
Awesome! I built a concrete countertop a few months back for the barbecue pit (one of my previous videos), but wasn't too happy with the base. I didn't square the edges of the 2x's, and I wish I had. It came out ok but.....this would be the perfect base for that. I can see another project in my future!
It's definitely more work, but makes it worth it in the end!
Amazing. I love this.
Thank you!
Such an awesome build!
Thanks Thomas!
Dude, thanks for making this build video!
I'm working on something similar and I was wondering how to handle the shelves. The pocket holes and using another board to shim it up to the edge was just what I needed.
Glad it helped! I spent a good amount of time trying to figure out how I was going to do it. Send me a pic of your finished project on Instagram!
Love it very nice 👍🏼
Thanks for the video. I made it with a little addition. I put a X at the fridge side and added a small barn door to cover the fridge. Thanks.
That's a great idea!
You are now my idol!
Loved the music and edit on the finished piece lol
Haha thanks!
I don't hate on someone for having and using the tools they have, but I loved how you explained to "the average woodworker" like myself how to do certain steps with basic tools. You my man just got a new subscriber.
Thanks man! I wanted to show everyone how approachable this project was, but still wanted to practice using the "fancier" tools that I own. It's tricky to do both. Thanks for the sub!
Awsome job. Perfection.
Thank you!
Awesome video! I thought for the X part on the coffee bar you were going to cut a half lap joint but it worked out anyway. Great build!
Thanks! A half lap would have been a great idea to make it nice and seamless. Maybe next time!
Profesional Job
Wow that was a nice finish
Thank you!
Great work as always, my friend! 👊🏽
Thanks RM! 👊🏼
The harmonica sold me. Just subscribed. Also a great video and very easy to follow
Thank you! Maybe the harmonica needs to make more frequent appearances in my vids then!
Turned out awesome man. Great job
Thank you!
That came out really nice 👍🏼
Thanks!
Had a good laugh on the table top glue up fail 😂 thanks for keeping it real, that’s literally EVERY glue up for me. Coffee bar looks great man
all the damn time lol
Damn. None of my friends are this handy!!!!! Great job. I need that!!!
😂
Oh this turned out so beautiful! Love your videos. New sub here. Keep up the great work! I need to build one of these. I am thinking about making two of these. On the wine bar, I'll add some wooden t-tracks to hold the wine glasses and on the bottom shelf add curved cut outs or an X for extra wine storage. For the coffee bar, where the wine fridge is, I will put a tilt out bin for a trash can. My husband seems to always spill the coffee grounds on his way to the trash can so having the trash right under the coffee pot, I think would solve that almost daily clean up. I think he's worried his wife loves woodworking and what all I will be building when I can get some room and get my tools set up and build a work bench. He should be fine as I don't complain when he buys more cars or parts, so I think we're even when I buy more tools. Haha.
Thank you! That sounds like a great idea for a tilt out bin!
👍🏼 awesome
Ok now I need one exactly like this 😁
Haha make one!
Totally makin this
Do it!
Nice build!
Thanks!
Nice work!
Thanks!
You've got a new subscriber. Thanks for the video great work.
Thank you!
I’m building this tomorrow
10:57 Good job you have a pocket hole jig, when you have a pocket hole jig everything looks like it needs a pocket hole.
Looks amazing! Really wanted to see how you did the brown top with the clear gloss look. Great video still!
Thanks! Yea, I wish I filmed it too. I thought I was going to only use the wipe-on poly, but I wasn't liking how it came out. I just added some oil-based poly to my paint sprayer and put on a few heavy coats (with some sanding in-between).
@@CasualBuilds What didn't you like about the wipe on? I was planning on using Minwax One Coat Poly/Satin. Hopefully, it will be fine.
damn thats fire!
nice!
Nice work 💯🎯
Thanks!
TYFS 👍🏻
Been waiting for this video since I saw your post on woodworking. Love it!
Thanks! There was a ton of positive responses on that post - I felt pressured to get the video out quick! Haha
Awesome video Tim!!! Loved the in and out tip and the coffee bar turned out great! Love me some Urban Seattle too. Great reveal song!!!
Thanks Adrian! Yeah, it's such a soothing song for the reveal lol. Have you checked out the end of my cutting board vid yet?
Casual Builds sure did!! I’m a fan of Shaun Boyd’s too. Lol. Your cutting board video is popping off!!! Congrats. If I ever decide to do my woodworking vids in Spanish, like I’ve wanted to for the last two years, I have another Hax song in mind 😂
Haha yep, definitely took it from Shaun's vids lol
And you should make the vids! They don't have to be perfect at the start, progress over perfection!
Casual Builds I caught that line in this video and it spoke to me. Thanks!
For the X, I found it easier to mark where they sit and everything, but when you cut, only cut the middle half way and the same to the other using that depth stopper on your miter. Creep up on the halfway point. Can’t undo your cuts! Lol
Also, you can just glue them if they’re a tight fit. I’ve had one for years and it’s never come undone with just the glue. It’s additional support, but honestly, depending on what you’re making, it might not need it. Your call! Go make some saw dust! Lol! Compost your sawdust btw! You get awesome fine healthy compost!
Nice project. I have the same jointer ,with same problem. I swear I'm going to trash-it but never do. Matt at 731 woodworking has a great tip for jointing the boards with a table saw. I use it ,and get great results.
Thanks! Yeah, I ended up buying a used Jet jointer after this project and sold the porter cable one. Much better improvement over the bench top.
Great video! I do need to convert all sizes to the metric system! ;)
Thanks!
You should get a jointer plane to joint the edges. A number 8 is able to plane two 30mm boards at one time to ensure that the gluing surface is perfect. Sometimes its not worth fighting with the machinery.
Agreed. I need to start adding to my hand tool collection. Got a number (I think) jack plane that I'm still learning how to use properly.
I was thinking of giving that Porter Cable jointer a try, but after watching your video, I've decided against that. I don't have a lot of space in my garage. So, I may just give a try to the Grizzly 8' with spiral head top bench jointer. Good job by the way.
Yea, it works for smaller pieces just fine, but has troubles with larger ones. I actually just upgraded my jointer to a used 6" Jet and it's so much better.
Solid video man! Glad to know I’m not the only one who accidentally shoots brands out the other side of boards 😅.
I did a similar design on a teachers podium - it’s up on the tube if you’d like to check it out.
Keep the good videos comin 👍🏽
Thanks! Check out the Wood Whisperers latest video where he makes some kid desks, he throws in a tip about Brad nails that was huge for me to prevent that. I'll check out your vid!
I think I found my next project!
Nice! Definitely a cool piece of furniture.
Would you suggest getting a jointer or planer first? I wish I had the $$ for both right now, but I don't. Thanks for the videos. I am really enjoying them.
Really like how you did the decorative x’s on the side. I’ve been sitting on a design that incorporated something like but didn’t know how to do it. Any idea if a half lap joint would work for the intersection?
Oops, should have read the comment below. Great video!
Haha, thanks! I may try a half lap next time.
Great video. I'm glad that you share about it on Instagram. It wasn't showing anywhere in my feed even though I have subscribed and set to "all". Anyways... I really like this. I am going to get some of those leveler feet. If you have a link to them that would be great.
Thanks and that's very weird! I'll have to look into that. I just updated the video description and included a link to the leveling feet!
@@CasualBuilds Great! Thanks. I jumped on Amazon to look them up and checked back here first. Glad you updated it. I just ordered them. I know it's a small purchase. But I hope every little bit helps out.
Of course! They did the trick for this project!
I’m using box store poplar I give you a shout out when I’m done
This turned out awesome! I plan to do something similar (without jointer/planer) soon! What was the tool you used to mark the spot to drill when you were attaching the top?
Thank you! I believe it's called a center punch tool?
I love the idea and the project. My question or suggestion (constructively) is why not use a lap joint on the x pattern? amazing project none the less!
Thanks! I didn't think about it at first. Also, I feel like there would have been more room for error too.
@@CasualBuilds All good man, I'll be attempting one of these myself soon, thanks for the inspiration
Can you make one ughh ❤️❤️❤️
For the jointer, did you make sure to flip the board so that the side is reversed against the fence for every run ? I’ve got the same jointer and was able to make it work, so just wanted to check
I don't believe I tried that. When you do that in/out method it should correct that instead of reversing. I don't think the in/out feed tables on my jointer were coplanar
I've been thinking of making one of these for myself for about a month and just didn't really know how to go about it. This is very helpful! Also, if I were to make a couple, how much would you sell them for?
Thanks! Pricing will range, go check out Tyler's Etsy page for some ideas.
This is great! Amazing work! What are the measurements for the fridge space? *what size fridge can fit inside?
Thanks! Shoot me an email and I'll send you a pic with the measurements. Tim@casualbuilds.com
@@CasualBuilds Thanks! Will do :)
Can I also have the measurements?
Is there plans for this coffee bar I can get with list of materials
Great project! Got a subscriber in me as a result :-)
Thank you!
What is the dimension of the pocket screws? Are you planning to put the digital plans for sale on your website? Love your channel.
Just posted plans, link in description!
Are there plans for this? It looks awesome
Unfortunately, I don't have plans for this project.
This is awesome. Definitely making one for my dining room. Do you happen to know where your Friend got the fridge?
Amazon, I believe! There should be a link in the description.
Are the pocket holes necessary? Or can you just add screws in from the outside of the frame? Awesome video, thank you
It may be tough for the inner "legs" where you can't access from the sides.
Thats was great i loved it i need one like this for my coffee bar
Hi, i'm newbie in doing this carpentring thing... 😂😂😂 may i know what kind of the wood are you using... Looks so beautiful... I mean it's oak wood right?😮
It's standard construction grade framing wood - douglas fir pine. Nothing fancy!
Hi, it would be nice if you write down all the measurements and how many pieces is needs.
Is there any reason that you don't use planed timber rather than rough! would save a load of time and effort, is it a cost issue?
Yes, wanted to keep cost down and I don't have any lumber yards with that kind of wood near me - usually just go to one of the big home improvement stores for wood.
Maybe I may have missed it but where can we get plans for this?
Are plans available for this ? Thx
curious, so did u apply a water poly over the white paint?
I did not. I used a urethane Semi-Gloss enamel so didn't need to.
What dimension mini fridge did you use?
Actually have a question about your miter saw box. Do you find it collects the majority of your dust since it has an open face? I see almost everyone else put some type of cutout face on there's.
I've since switched my miter saw after this video. The one in this video was just alright at collecting dust. I used the box so it would contain most of it and not spit out the back (which worked). I did have to vacuum inside every so often. My new miter saw has horrible dust collection and I'm still trying to figure out how to improve it.
Can you keep fruit and snacks in the fridge? Are the shelves adjustable? Do you have a link to the fridge?
Yes, you can store whatever you'd like in the fridge. Shelves are not adjustable. Link to fridge should be in description.
about how much does this project cost?
Are those Allbirds you are sporting on your feet?
Yes sir! Super comfy.
I bought your plans for this, can you let me know what brand of glue you used for this please?
Titebond and thank you!
Casual Builds: "This is a beginner project"
Also Casual Builds: *Makes multiple mistakes*
Me: Ah, that's my speed. Subscribed.
Haha! Yes, I make plenty of mistakes and I want them to be know instead of editing them out. Thanks for the sub!
@@CasualBuilds It's appreciated. It's such a breath of fresh air. I've always loved the phrase that "The sign of an expert carpenter is not the ability to avoid mistakes, but the ability to recover from them."
what program do you use for designing?
SketchUp. They've got a free, web-based version that works perfectly.
Can I add a barn door to this?
I'm sure it's possible, never installed one of those before.
What size wood did you use for the top?
2x6 - 8 feet, two of them
What are the dimensions? Not sure if it says it somewhere and I misssd that.
Do you have the measurements anywhere?! I would love to do this but I struggle with measuring! TIA
Sure thing, send me an email. tim@casualbuilds.com
Would love this. I sent an email also
@@CasualBuilds thanks so much sent over the email I have two channels and commented on a channel I don’t even really use.
What table saw do you use?
The Delta 36-725.
I noticed there no dimensions for this build? Should we just make our own dimensions?
What did this bars dimensions come out to? Looking for 46 inch bar.
Check out my website for plans www.casualbuilds.com
@@CasualBuilds finished my build. Will say with just normal 2x4s this thing comes out kind of wonky haha. Boards just aren't straight so there is some play. Going to have to putty the crap outta my table. But beats buying a 800$ from Etsy. Cost me 100$ total with a few needed tools.
You said you used all 2x4 and 2x6? So did you cut the 2x6 to 3 inch each? What did you do with the 2x4? Is that what you used for the 11/2? If so, why buy this size and not one closer to size like a 2x2?
I used 2x4s for the entire base construction and 2x6s for the top. There were 2x2 pieces in my design, but I got them from the 2x4s because the 2x2s at the store aren't typically flat or in the best condition.
Gotcha! Thank you so much for your response. Love watching the videos!
Thanks!
