- Got my hands on Philips Sonicare Prestige. Newest premium toothbrush model that came in to repair. so let's see what has Philips improved on the previous models. diamondclean and smart doamondclean in comparison.
This video was super helpful! I had an issue with the ribbon/connecter as the toothbrush wasn’t reading the sensor. Seeing you connect it properly helped a ton. Thank you!
It was helpful for me too. Especially once I realized there was a latch you need to flip up first. Unfortunately when I reconnected my pcb, my power button doesn't work any longer. The sense iq buttons do work though. Any ideas why that could be?
@@sawyerburnett8319you fixed it? Need to open my prestige to replace the rubber seal where a small hole is in it.
I now have a diamondclean 9000 special edition blue (USD150) and a 9900 prestige(USD190) midnight blue. Received the 9000 a week ago. And the 9900 just today. Bought both of them with very good coupons/deals. I ordered both, to test out them and decide which to keep or send back within 30 days. What I expected, that the Prestige metal pin was loose out-of-the box! What a cheap quality.
They have exact same production date (august of 2023).
And 9000 has no problem, 9900 has loose pin/shaft.
I wonder why can't Philips can fix this production issue.
They manufacture Prestige since 2021. Today is almost 2024.
I would like to open the brush and fix it for myself, but then I loose the 2 years warranty.
@Knobber it is possible to open it up without damaging the case so the warranty would be still in tact as there is no safety labels or other things that would indicate that the brush was opened. .. you do need some practice to do it without damaging it so if its first time i would not risk it.. that said very strange why it was loose out of the box.. and as you do have the warranty I would just bring it in for exchange.. just a thought if it was a super deal maybe the seller is selling refurbished toothbrushes that were returned by the previous customers and has not checked the last return.. just a thought..
@@letsfixitgarage It was an unopened box, and production date of toothbrush is August of 2023.
Wow.. then really questionable quality control...
Just received the replacement of the 9900. The metal pin is tight now, but I think the 9000 has even tighter pin.
Noise, without brush: Diamondclean 9000 55decibels , Prestige 9900 60decibels (measured with smartphone, so just approximate values.
Prestige sounds a bit more noisy, because the smaller shell i think not absorb the noise as the bigger house of 9000.
The diamondclean 9000 feels a bit more robust in my hand.
What do you think? Which model should I keep If we not count in the smart features?
@@letsfixitgarage
Wow, great video! I have a question..my Sonicare started to make noise everytime I press it on my teeth. I saw that the spindle that hold the toothbrush is not stiff, if I touch it, it moves a bit right and left and a bit behind. What is the problem in your opinion? Is it the screw you showed in the video? Unfortunately philips doesn't fix this kind of issue.
Check my other videos for more information but I would suspect the upper screw right next to the spindle. You will need loctite or some other screw tightening liquid on this screw
@@letsfixitgarage thanks!!
Which color is nice , dark black or champagne? Is it easy the brush head holder loose and make the loud nice? I read the reviews from somone at amazon usa?
Don't know the color, but if the head is noisy it has a defect. Under warranty Philips will replace it for free if after warranty check my other videos it can be repaired quite easily. Electromagnetic drive is the same as in diamondclean version.
Which entry level toothbrush - $35-50, would last longer, oral b or phillips? Are there any brands you would recommend for a lower cost toothbrush?
I would go with Philips for better repairability as they all break down eventually.. do take note that in the cheapest section Philips has gone one step back introducing motor driven technology instead of their trusty magnetic drive technology, these are not worth it.. additionally if you take care of your toothbrush it will hold longer if no, it will break sooner.. I would not recommend any cheap Chinese for one simple reason there are no spare parts for them..
Odd problem: Sonicare HX993w turns on when I remove it from the charger. It will also randomly turn itself on and off real quick when on the charger. Any thoughts on the problem? It won't turn itself on when its sitting off the charger.
With these kind of descriptions my first thought is always water damage. Take it out, inspect the upper rubber seal and if needed take off the motherboard from the frame to inspect the back side as quite often I see where upper part looks like new but when you take off the back side a lot off corrosion is found there..
would be nice if you showed how to take it apart !!!
It's very similar to other Sonicare brush opening that I show in other videos.. sorry when you open a lot of them it seams so obvious.. must forget this and explain every time as it it was first time.. thanks for the feedback.
What causes it to be loud? In regards to the prestige..have one here and its loud as F
Prestige has the same drive Mechanismus as other Sonicare toothbrushes. Check my other videos specifically diamondclean no vibrations fix and you will find the answer how to fix it.
The Prestige had many problems when it released. Does Philips fixed those issues? I mean Prestige is 2 years on the market.
Philips usually release 'facelifts' for their models. Like the Diamondclean 9000 was the first edition, and now It has Diamondclean 9000 Special Edition. What is your experience, Philips fixes these issues? Like the upper screw problem which causes the very noisy vibration.
Philips improves on the design with every model but there are no radical changes. Upper screw problem is the same from the first sonicares. Vibration drive unit is unchanged on all sonicares including Prestige which is god blessed for repair enthusiasts :) additionaly its not a major problem and easily repairable.. not like on the Oral-B IO where shaft is welded, but sometimes it breaks and in that case there is no repair possibility, just replacement of the drive module.. which is not for sale.. From my opinion that is much bigger problem..
Just received my diamondclean 9000 but it is a bit noisy. Can you listen it is that normal? You've seen many sonicares you may know is that normal sound or not: czcams.com/users/shortsIwaulni84sw@@letsfixitgarage
I opened my prestige up to fix the rattling noise, but now the power button doesn't work. The PCB is connected, and other buttons work, but not the power. I need help getting it working!! Anyone know the cause?
check that the flex cable is all the way in. do the leds work? additionally you could try to remove the power from the board for few second this should reset it
You fixed it, afraid of opening this one up but I need to to replace the rubber sealing that's damaged....
Hello, just curious do you have experience of repairing Philips HX99 series PCB?
had only few on my hands, they still relatively new.. Some got repaired, one not. For now not much to share :)
@@letsfixitgarage These HX99 commonly have power leakage issue. I got 6 on my hand, if you need spare chips, I can send you them for research.
Sure I could have a look, write me to letsfixitgarage@gmail.com let's check what can be done
Hi, in your opinion, what is the difference between Philips Sonicare 9900 Prestige vs Diamondclean ?
Smart diamondclean not much, simple diamondclean quite a lot.. prestige has everything Philips invented in the Sonicare branch and maybe something more that I don't know off.. it's smaller in size as all other brushes, can't comment on the Ai side and the biggest innovation from my perspective is capacitive touch button that prevents toothpaste build up in the button, and that will have major problems in repairability when it will get water damage... That being said it still uses exactly the same electromagnetic drive unit that every other Sonicare brush has. So if you use simple clean mode without checking the app, cheapest Sonicare model will be sufficient for you and deliver the same end result with better bang for your bucks. That being said you have to take care as Philips released new simplified model that got simple motor as drive unit.. in near future will try to do a review of majority of brushes internals to check some of the differences..
@@letsfixitgarage Hi, Can I ask something?
Do today's newer models of sonic toothbrushes have up to 62,000 brushing movements per minute or are they still only up to 31,000 brushing movements per minute ?
interesting..can the battery be replaced though?
Definitely! exactly the same as with all the sonicare brushes it is soldered in the same manner to the motherboard. but you will need a smaller battery 14430 to be more precise ;)
Спасибо большое!
Copper coil came off bottom on prestige how can I fix/replace tried reconnecting
Would need more detailed description of the problem to get you some tips.. what happened, what you tried, what is the state...
ty! do you know what's the battery is needed for sonicare prestige?
I think I had measured it before somewhere here in the comments it should be written. Will do it later and reply one more time if not found..
14430CY 750 mAh 3.8V INR15/43
@@letsfixitgarage thanks! you are a hero!
@@letsfixitgarage do you know if it'd work with 3.7V 14430? Hard to find 3.8 for some reason :*(
@hiddendope don't know for sure, that's just the writing that is on the battery it could indicate different battery chemistry but all the other Sonicare brushes charge up to 4v need to check on Prestige but I believe it will be the same. So theoretically 3.7 li-ion should be fine. If you will try it charge it in disassembled form and under supervision for the first time..
Can you fix the steel shaft on this model? Have one that’s loose. Please let me know will gladly send it your way to fix. Thanks!
@AM-np3hf If the shaft is loose it could be 2 defects either the holding screw is loose or it is broken. For first defect I have another video check them out, if it's broken it needs to be exchanged, but both are doable. If you don't trust yourself with repair write me an email maybe we can arrange something. letsfixitgarage@gmail.com
@@letsfixitgarage thank you very much for your prompt and thorough reply. Thankfully and unexpectedly, Phillips is standing by their product and replacing it under warranty even though it was purchased from a questionable overseas source at a steeply discounted price. Kudos to Phillips.
@AM-np3hf nice! From my experience if you have purchasing proof and it's in the warranty period usually they change it all the time. If they would agree to leave you the old one that would be even better outcome ;)
@@letsfixitgarage alas, they requested the old one be shipped back. Still happy with this outcome. Thought I was out of luck since it was purchased for a fraction of the usual retail price from a questionable source. Thank you again.
I had a small piece of black rubber come out when I took it apart to tighten screw and now it doesn’t turn on. Don’t know where this tiny black piece of rubber with 3 holes goes.
Would need to see the part.. can't remember any rubber parts that falls off.. and it shouldn't connect to the fact that it doesn't turn on..
That part is from the bush shell for the light indicators of the sensivity. I mine also came off but it still works so it shouldent be a problem
@@coolbvwes1thank you
