In addition they didn't even know how to break a Lugg-less joining shackle. This is basic seamanship. Other than than it was an interesting video.

There seemed to be a lack of knowledge of how to split a chain. It is basic seamanship, but dangerous because of size and weight. There is also too many willing, but lacking expertise, crew with hammers. The pin is tapered and only goes in one way.
However, fortitude prevailed. I just hope they cleaned out all the old lead plug before putting in the new one. If not, then they are likely to lose the pin and consequently the anchor. Ex RN Able seaman.

I wonder how many twists and turns are in that anchor chain, and to allow the twists to untangle most likely requires time. Lift the anchor and give it time to untwist, it's very heavy and moves slowly. Would it be a better idea to have 2 anchors to keep the ship from spinning around 1 anchor? And, or, raise the anchor once every couple of days to allow the chain to untwist. Is there more than 1 anchor on this ship to prevent it from spinning, or to hold the ship still with anchor #2, whilst anchor #1 chain can be untwisted?

    1. Pull a length of chain before the tangle onto the deck, to get to the shackle.
    2. Disconnected the shackle, and pulled the end back toward the winch.
    3. Pulled the end out again, and reconnected the shackle to the original chain lying on the deck. (Tangle not touched.)
    4. Wound all the chain back onto the winch again, and the tangle magically cleared?

The weakest point in a rope is the knot.. The best knot to use to fasten the broken rope together would be a square knot, but even better is a hitch knot. When attaching old line to new line on a fishing rod, a hitch is most often used because it is strongest. Very interesting video. I bet they won't let that happen again. What a pain in the booty!!!!

if you had dropped it down in the water first time you make have released the kink out by the anchor rotating under its own weight.

With Light Saber you could use solution used by Alexander the great to untangle Gordion Knot in ancient times.

First you recreate the tangle with a rope. You haver no idea what your problem is till you do. The friction, the loop, the track, the chain tension at each end is it fixed/loose?

Ranch below the knot and bring the pressure off of that knot so you can untangle it
