I went from a SE3 to a 13 product red. Same. chip as the 14 and nicer colors than the 15. Plus I have a friend who bought the 15 pro in Blue which looks lovely. Rather than buy a fine woven case, he got a Sheildon Wallet case in blue leather. The phone sleeve can be detached from the wallet and put directly on a mag safe charger which is a brilliant idea. I just wish they did a similar style wallet for the rest of the Apple range.
Bc your using your phone and your battery is degrading. My iphone 14 gets a good 7-8 hours a day without charging usually makes it through. Im on 17.5.1
for me it was easier to decide since i only upgrade every generations apart usually 6-7 years so I got to go with the latest which would be 15 or 15 pro coming from X, then I have specific needs, instead of buying a dslr camera for photography/videography class, ill use this phone for most cases and borrow/rent a dslr in some cases. For storage, I survived the 64gb on Iphone X so 128gb is enough for me since I have lots of external drives and I usually store files on my macbook. Next is size, I don’t like bigger sizes so I am fine with 6.1, plus in pro models it’s way heavier compared to base models because of different materials in build so going bigger is going heavier and I don’t want that. Also, having a bigger screen for me is straining my fingers and I am just accustomed to having smaller or average sized phones, i don’t have small hands but i want to grip the phone well because I like to carry other things while still carrying phone. For battery, 8-10 hrs of basic use is more than enough for me that’s why I am also fine not opting for pro max given that the pro max will last you a bit longer. Lastly, budget, good to know my budget allows me to go for pro models and that’s how I decide which Iphone to choose. Now I am enjoying my newly bought 15 pro
Besides AirPods, the only iPhone accessory I’ve bought are power bricks. Honestly I should’ve bought them elsewhere, but with storage I am VERY thankful that I bought more storage on my iPhone. I got a 2020 SE intending to only use it for maybe a year and give it to my mother, but I’m still using it. There is no way I would be able to use this nearly as long if I didn’t upgrade the storage.

It is simple and smaller, but still iOS for a fine price. I think you should get a phone that you don't necessarily want but would like to try it out, start with a cheaper, affordable phone and if you like it, you can go for the rest.

Bought my 13 Pro Max on contract for 2 years which is more than enough for me! Originally went for the 14 Plus but sent it back after finding out it was the exact same but with a lesser camera and no 120hz refresh rate. The 14 Pro Max is pretty much the exact same as the 13PM except it has a slightly better CPU, way better camera and the dynamic island which may be a gimmick depending on your personal preferences. The 15PM was more than I could afford tbh and the only enticing thing about it for me was USB-C… if you can afford it I would say it’s a worthwhile upgrade! “Upgraded” from a Galaxy S22 which had unfixable mobile data issues that caused me to sell. Decided to get an iPhone for the ecosystem as I prefer MacOS for work over W11. Hope this info helps someone else!

i dont use the USBC cord that comes in the box. it overheats my phone. i use a USB to C cord. its slower but i dont care. if i have no choice and i need the fast charging ill use the c to c cord. other than that the cord that came with my iphone 15 pro max i charge my switch with. i got a deal with the 15 pro max and im glad i got it. i got the blue titanium the moment i got it i put it in a case and put a tempered glass screen protector. i dont have apple care i am paranoid with it always in a good case and good screen protector, i almost rarley drop the phone i have and i also am not driving 2 hours away to an apple store

14 will have the same longevity update-wise as 13. They both are using the same processor (A15 Bionic). You would be better off getting 15 when 16 comes out in mid-September.

Wonderfully when Apple joined the rest of us in the post 2017 world, in 2023, we can now not overspend on overpriced storage on an iPhone and instead get a USC-C stick. 256GB should be the bare minimum, but if I were getting a base model with only 128GB, I'd get a 512GB usb-c for $50 and not worry about it.
I would never ever recommend Apple Care, 13$ is al lot of money compared to other insurances and the amount of money that AppleCare covers is in no relation to its cost. You only want insurances for existence threatening events and breaking your phone is not one of them.

Id recommend an iphone 14 plus if he has eyesight problems or a se3 if not your going to have to teach him but i believe for elders iphone are better than androids bc the os is alot safer and simpler

Iphone 15 colors are really good they are pale but theres no other iphone like them and it makes them look better than 14
It's not the storage that personally concerns me, it's the battery life on my iphone 14 pro max. With every update, it gets progressively worse 🤬

I'm still using a 4 year old iPhone 11 Pro Max 256 GB ROM. It's my secondary phone but I've never referred buying the larger storage version.
