I just bought the Epiphone IBG Hummingbird. I got a really good deal on it from Sweetwater. Can't wait for it to arrive!
Thanks for an excellent demo! The Gibson definitely sounds better. Well I had to return and add a little to my comment. I just recieved my new IBG Hummingbird last week. Both Gibson and Epi sounds like yours on the demo. All I can say is the IBG packs an excellent package for the money! Thanks again for the demo! My IBG is made in Indonesia.
TKS for the compare and a good job that only goes to prove that the IBG Epiphone Hummingbird is worth the relatively little money it costs for what she delivers, however overshadowed by her Gibson big sister, four to five times as expensive! 👍
It’s crazy how almost identical they are for the price difference!
@@brucesistrunk4520 Goes to show that Gibson is over-priced. Paying for a logo on the head stock.
Awesome comparison. The Gibson has more depth and boom, more clarity and is warmer. The epiphone is brighter and more constricted. I’d say the epiphone is 75% of the guitar that the Gibson is. I’d go with the Gibson if I could afford it, but for now I’ll have to just hang onto my epiphone.
Epiphone sounds clear and bright and deep especially at 7:15 sample. Great comparison, well done. Btw what strings are on each?
Hi, thanks for the video. I have the IBG and am curious as to the strings you use. Was the tusq pins upgrade on the IBG worth it in your opinion?
The Epiphone sounds like an $800 guitar and the Gibson sounds like a $2500 guitar.
excellent comparison. Before I knew which was which, I actually thought that I preferred the Epiphone's sound. They clearly don't sound the same, but I'm not sure which one sounds 'better', maybe they're just... different, but very similar?
I love them both. Your Gibson has a slotted bridge while the Epi doesn't. I slotted the bridge of my IBG Hummingbird and it's every bit as good as the Gibson. It's definitely worth having a luthier do it or do it yourself by buying a $30 tool and watching a youtube video on how to slot the bridge :)
The Gibson does not have a slotted bridge, those are just the ramps to the bridge pins holes.. Nor does the epiphone have a slotted bridge.
I bought the J-45 inspired by Gibson and love 💕 it ( I also have a Gibson J-160 but do not like to risk getting out in public)
Both sound good to me I think I may well buy the epiphone. What’s your thoughts on the two guitars👍
The IBG Epiphone sounds the best.
The Gib is a more scooped tone, the Epi has a more even range and l think is better to my ear and a warmer less edgy tone. Even money ld take the Epi. However.. the strings on the guitars could play a huge part in the difference, same brand? Same gauge? Put on at the same time?
Where did you buy the left handed Epiphone?
They dont sound anything alike..they both sound great though. I think Epiphone is killing it with these new IBGs n masterbuilts..they are fantastic. I have the j-45 hummingbird and excelente and I couldn't be more pleased..all got a setup from my local luthier.. the Gibson sounded amazing in itself.. I don't think you can go wrong with either.. but they don't sound anything alike which is fine
Well, I don’t know so much about guitar, I can only tell the Gipson one has warmer sound. Thanks for the timeline! 🙏
The epiphone bass response is more focused. I think it sounds slightly better than the Gibson.
The Gibson has more clarity, base, and dynamic range, Hence high price, I'd have the Eppi in a heartbeat as it suits my budget.
No. The high price is due to the brand name. There is not that much difference in sound to justify thousands in difference in price.
The Epiphone just sounds like the treble has been turned down. Just sounds low fi compared to the Gibson. But if you don't A/B them, then the Epiphone sounds good.
The Gibson is definitely better... but the Epi is nice... I have an new Epiphone Hummingbird. I like it, but the Gibson is definitely better. I was able to compare them at the store when I bought the Epiphone. I just couldn't bite off what they want for the Gibson, even though it is UNDOUBTEDLY BETTER SOUNDING... and a little bit of a legend.
I guess you just need to ask yourself is the sound quality, build quality, status, reliability, resale value worth the $3200 difference in price. Either way you are going to get a great guitar whichever one you decide to purchase.
Is this Epiphone made in China or Indonesia?
This one’s the one from Indonesia
Do a blind test and I bet most of the commenters would not be able to tell which guitar was which.
But they can pick which one they like the sound of. They do sound different.
@@truthof7382 Fair enough.
Get some good headphones, and scroll the video with eyes closed. The Gibson is way sweeter
Gibson is clearly more defined, complex and alive but the Epi sounds really good. It doesn’t have to sound exactly like the Gibson to be a good guitar.

The difference doesn't justify the price. Nowadays we can make great sound of a 600 € guitar in studio if we are just looking for good sound Epiphone is just allright.
To me, the Gibson sounds better, warmer sounding but, that's also $4000.00 dollars, the other sounds very good too but,not as good as the Gibson, that cost $800.00, if you can afford $4000.00 for a guitar than good for you.
The high price is due to the brand name. There is not that much difference in sound to justify thousands in difference in price.
GIBSON IS MORE BALANCED AND THAT IS ALL.
Sounds like 2 completely different guitars.. The Epi dosent sound bad but it dosent sound like the Gibson at all.
4:46 5:36 Gibson sounds way better.
I play by ear and the Gibson sounds wayyyyyy above the epiphone. Way way way way better. Wish I could buy the Gibson but ivr just brought the epiphone due to costs. Epiphone is Good for its price though. Gibson though sounds unbelievable deffo can tell its like 3000 plus.
With the gibson its like all eyes are on me no one can take there eyes off me.
Epiphone then starts and some people start to talk and lose focus. That's the difference for those who can't hear sound ques that well.
