    I am very serious about getting into Columbia when I am older. I’ve selected my classes, and hopefully I can make a change to them if it’s not “enough.” I am from SD, so I don’t know how my chances will be affected because of that, but I am really going to try and prove how committed and ambitious I am once I finish high school. I’m starting next year, first year of high school, and I’m excited to be able to push myself.

      From ND and recently got accepted to Columbia a few days ago. Being from a less advantaged school/region can actually help your admissions chances since we're not competing with California or New York, but rather, simply those from our same high school, city, and state. Good luck!

    Hey everyone,
    Vinay here. Just a quick clarification - the class size listed in the video (1,600 undergrads) is for each incoming class - the total undergrad enrollment at Columbia is ~6,200 students overall. That doesn't change how selective the admissions process is or any of the other advice in the video.

    I just want to point out that there are more than two undergraduate schools in Columbia...you have GS, The School of General Studies, and Barnard, which yes, is part of Columbia (you will have a Columbia degree from that college upon graduation.) At the very least GS should be included...it's a great option for students who have a break in their educational career.

    • @juderocks5
      @juderocks5 Před rokem

      I was going to suggest this. I took a break from school to start a business, then decided to be a police officer for a few years. I applied and was accepted to Columbia this year through the GS program. Columbia is one of the only Ivy schools that takes older students in that fashion, and it's a wonderful opportunity that most people forget about.

    You guys are very lucky in India because you have colleges in every corner of India. But in Sri Lanka, that is not the case.
    We have only two IT / Engineering Universities that are very difficult to enter and those Universities are highly recognized by Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, MIT and Columbia. A lot of Sri Lankan students enter Columbia, Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, MIT every year on scholarship from the Sri Lankan government.

    • @joshuavancuyck2669
      @joshuavancuyck2669 Před 3 lety +25

      Why not? They accept students on a case-by-case basis and that means that they review your application within the environment that you were in. If you did not have the opportunity to take many AP classes because your school did not offer it, they take this into account and it does not put you at any disadvantage. They also offer need-blind admissions, meaning that if you are from the US, they do not consider whether you are applying for financial aid or not, and if you get in, all of your tuition is paid for on a need-based basis. A very large proportion of the class each year are first-generation college students in their families too. The SATs are the only unfair part of this process if you are underprivileged, I can agree with you on that, but luckily this year those scores were not needed.
