Umberlee is an important deity for anyone who sails the high seas but she is of particular importance to Baldurians. Find out why and who she is in this video!
Umberlee is pretty terrifying. Imagine being a lone sailor out on the open sea, say the Sea of Fallen Stars, no land for miles and this goddess would just as well drown you and have you torn to bits by her sharks as ignore you, in fact likely the former rather than the latter...all alone, by yourself...frightening goddess. Great video!
The name suits her, the best she can do for you is.. well, nothing, she doesn't do things to help, only to hinder; yet you still have to appease her.
There were a few quests associated with the House of the Water Queen in the original Baldur's Gate game as well. Tenya, the child priestess of Umberlee was actually pretty memorable for as minor quest related NPCs go. She even had a couple of voice lines (same VA as Alora).
Well, the name really does suit her; love the thumbnail and excellently explained!
I didn't know the bitch queen was umberlee for awhile, so I was very confused when the first book I found in the game was "shanties of the bitch queen"
As a noob to Baldur's Gate, this video was really good. You have that MrRhexx effect, and I'm looking forward to more.

I have a big umberlee tattoo! (lots of d&d tattoos) I always loved that questline in BG1, and her temple/faithful are so intriguing. This scene really caught my eye, because I (think) see that priestess has scales, and I wonder if shes plane-touched or triton... or just a cool lady with scales!
Possibly. I initially thought it was leggings but her eyes look a little weird so it COULD be a triton of water genasi for sure.
@Spell&Shield I also thought it was leggings until I looked at her face. It could be some kind of physical alteration due to her patron, but I feel like that's not it. It would be mich more practical for her to be a water genasi or a triton. I'm very excited to find out!
If not a Triton or Water Genasi, then possibly the Alter Self spell.
The sculpture of Umberlee in the game reminds me a lot of the RL statue of Scylla (also associated with dog heads, adorning her monstrous body, such as the bitch queen) from greek mythology in Scilla / Calabria / Italy.

Possibly the closest analogue to Baldur's Gate in the ASOIAF world would be King's Landing.
I’d say Pentos. The cities along the sword coast remind me much more of Essos than Westeros.
Even a ship full of Veterans know to play the game, so Umberlee takes her gold.

She's Chaotic Evil. She might still wreck you even if you pay tribute to her but she will surely wreck you if you don't. That's why she has the nickname she does.

I am not sure who is worse, Umberlee or Lloth?
My vote is Lolth, Umberlee can kill you if you try to sail the sea but Lolth will actively make you kill your loved ones just to laugh at your suffering.
Lolth is definitely more demented, Umberlee feels more like a force of nature where Lolth feels like a being that wants suffering for the sake of it.

I really hate that moniker.
It's honestly almost enough to make me regret purchasing the game.
But everything else about the game has been so cool and interesting and fun that I'm still super excited anyway.
I hope there's not too much focus on calling this goddess a bitch.
