- As a former Marine Corps recruiter in 1987 I can testify that this commercial was extremely successful at the time it was released. It was modern technology at its finest and was a major media "hit."

This damn commercial is responsible for me joining the Marines. Saw it when I was a kid and thought the Marines were the coolest ever.

Dude this commercial was my jam as a kid. It had it all knights, swords lightning, magic! Everything a young kid raised on Legend of Zelda type stuff could ever want!

Growing up in Tennessee, I never saw this commercial on television. However, it was often played in between the coming attractions whenever I would go to the movies and the first time you see it on the big screen like that it looks like a real movie trailer! You don't realize until the very end what it is. Thank you to everyone who is and has served in our armed forces!

I was 12 when this commercial decided my future. I have always lived my life with the honor and values of a knight in shining armor so it only made sense to become the closest thing there is in the modern world.

Wow! I fondly remember this. I was a poolee in 1992 when they aired this including the "Chess" one. I was-and still am- also a huge fantasy geek and this commercial is what sold me!

I earned my right to be a Marine when I was 17. I will always be a Marine. Being a Marine was the bedrock for the rest of my life.

Firstly you must understand that to many of those who have served in the Corps's ranks, the U.S. MARINE CORPS is a beloved treasure or almost a religion to some degree. Secondly this Brotherhood and even Sisterhood for our lady Marines has indeed changed and enriched many a very great deal and I truly respect you're service with the U.S.Army but the Marine Corps way of life is no fantasy in no kind of way and EVERYTHING IS EARNED AND NEVER, EVER GIVEN. Thank God we have such dedicated Marines as your retired Warrant Officer friend because whether you acknowledge it or not those kind of MOTIVATED MARINES help to keep us all safer, I'm certain you'll agree and Semper Fidelis to you sir.

It's a shame at how feminine the military is nowadays vs back then. It always such a man's career and you could feel the testosterone oozing from the commercials. Now the military is soaking itself in dumb identity politics. As a man, these commercials just made you want to enlist right away. Nowadays, young men see no reason to join because the military aren't putting focus on being manly anyone. They want young men to fight and sacrifice their lives, but they are catering to women, who don't normally fight in war. (Not saying that women are the problem, but most of our protection comes from young men fighting the enemy, not young women.) It makes zero sense.
