- My 1984 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS. Original car with a 305 4-Barrel, 95,000 kilometers, which is under 60,000 miles on the odometer. It's a very clean, original car!
- Walk-around Review
- Test Drive
- Zero to 60 acceleration test
Enjoy!
Such a great car. I had an 85. It was so much fun. This is the car they should bring back into production.
Yes I never liked the Camaros I prefer this montecarlo SS generation they looks very nice
My Grandma had a maroon Monte SS. I loved that car, she sold it when I left town and came back to it gone. To this day I'm heart broken.
Had the best times of my life in a car exactly like that. I had mine from the age of 17 to 24. I took it to the beach every year. Took out my T tops and blasted hair band rock. I did put a 400 small block in it later that made 345hp and 380 ft/lbs. 4.10s and drag radials on the stock 15s. Ran a lot faster then. Used a lot more gas
that's pretty impressive that it barks going into 2nd fully stock!
that's what I thought. People say the 305 is a boat anchor but this one moves pretty good.
That chirp in second gear would most definitely be a quick shift kit. I owned an ‘84 back in high school and the trans would never do that stock. Once I put a B&M shift kit with stronger springs and revalving it got second every time. The car in this video is beautiful. Although I’d still take the TH200R4 w/3:73 gears over the TH350 and 3:42’s. The TH350 was dreadful on the highway.
correct. I went thru the previous owner's receipts and he did put a shift kit in it a few years ago!
It has decent low end torque
How much power does the egr and smog pump leach?
Nice well preserved piece of history there .It would be cool to have one of those from Canada
The 84 I had like that one didn't have such as good a life
Thanks Sherman. I bought this car because of the condition. It’s obviously been loved. And continues to be babied in my care. A new owner will have it in 2020.
I have the same year, color, and trim sitting in the garage at my dad's house. It was my mom's car they bought new when I was a kid. I grew up in that car. Today, it sits in the garage covered by dust. Needs a full tune and extensive detail, but it's in mint condition with under 100k miles!
you know what to do.
These 80s Monte Carlo SS models are my favorite Monte Carlos. They look so cool and are the last of the RWD V8 powered ones sadly.
2nd gear scratch is sorely missing in todays cars.
Great car and good review , very calming nice voice . Been looking for one , then I saw an ElCamino and I fell in love , now I can´t make up my mind .. Thank you ..
Awesome ride! I really like you kept it looking original. Peace
The L69 305 was underrated, add 10 - 15% at a minimum. I had an '84 Z28 with the L69 and it would sqwak the tires into 3rd. 5 speed Borg Warner. Great motor. Fun car.
yes great comment. the L69 is OK especially in a 5 speed Camaro.
My 84ss would do the same it all depends on how u lunch the car if floor it hard it wheel spend both of the tires and it will do 90 in quarter mile mines had the emissions delt the tube by the manifold I had it up to 5'000 on the highway I fast do u think I was going I was close to 5200 rpm
I always loved the Monte Carlo SS, all years in the 1980s. They weren't the quickest vehicles, but the appearance was brutishly elegant.
Beautiful SS
The 85’s have the same wheels as your 84.
You have an awesome well taking care of classic man. Enjoy her!
Shane McKinney I prefer these wheels to the newer ones on this g body style
My 85 had same wheels, i think 86 they switch to year one wheels
My parents bought a Monte 87’ as a project car but unfortunately my dad got sick and passed away so my mom had to sell it. Man oh man I wish we would’ve kept it. Ours had the same interior. So Beautiful! These cars have grown on me.
Got love the Monte Carlos I have a blue 84 SS love to drive it
Beautiful car. I had an 85. It had a overdrive transmission. I cut off all the exhaust and for its time it was quick. With that 3.73 rear.
Really nice review of the 1984 Monte Carlo the vehicle is marvelous and the interior is very nice.
Yes that interior was amazing. Like new after all that time it was obviously garaged a lot
My father had this car! When I was 4 years old, I vaguely remember the thunder! And yes he had it in midnight blue!
Beautiful car. Nice to see the factory wheels instead of these people that put on ridiculous wheels and tires and jack up the back end to clear the fender wells.
Stock is a good look
These are the best cars ever made
Beautiful classic car is in great conditions thanks for sharing love Chevy 🇺🇸
Beautiful! I just purchased a Blue 1984 Monte Carlo SS. She needs a tune up, a distributor with new wires and plugs, and an exhaust.
that's a good summer project. I sold this car and moving onto a 91 ZR-1
Love the interior. Both my Gbodys are grey but that wood trim is really neat
I agree!
I’m about to revive my parents old Monte Carlo, it’s been sitting in our field and it makes me sad to see it just sitting there
Beautifully maintained. I'm in my 20s and drive an 07 ls as my daily driver. Always loved Montes, I'm currently building a model of an 86 SS. Nice car.
thanks Nate
What a good looking car, with the right old small block V8 with a carberator.i was 19 when IT came out .chères!
I have a 86 monte carlo I'm gonna start restoring this spring
Amazing condition. How much was it if you don't mind me asking?
between 5 and 20,000 $
Very great Montecarlo!! Congratulations!
Bought a brand new blue 1984 monte Carlo ss from John Hall Chevrolet in Daytona Beach Fl. My payments were $247.56 per month. Loved that car enough that I think I am going to buy one at auction next month I have located
Stunning example of an SS!
I miss my 84 SS Blue/Blue all original :''( Got to get me one again when I retire. Sweet they are...
don't wait till you retire. If you want one find one now. "waiting to retire" to do anything is a recipe for disaster.
@@gregs_garage I am always on the lookout, lol.
nice car! has some giddy up for what it provides. not bad at all i like it
thanks. will be back on the road soon. Maybe I'll take it for a quarantine cruise. Problem is, it will attract police attention because it stands out vs. boring new cars. I think the day is coming when you can only go out to the grocery store and back so you don't want to stand out. Isn't that a sad state of affairs?
Greg's Garage unfortunately they might mess with you. i can go for a cruise no matter what the situation is. i love it! if you do just be carful. make sure you make a part 2! i love this car
will do. I'll keep some grocery bags in the front seat and tell them I'm going to Safeway
84 ss only came out in 2 color blue or white. I own 84 ss 6.0 engine
4l80e transmission
3500 stall converter
And is fast very fast
Plus came with moonroof
0-60 at 13:23
That's an awesome monty SS you have my dad had an 88 used at GM dealer in Kingston ontario around 1991 or 92 Grey and white I think it was...could be wrong last year for these altogether with the 5.0 litre 305HO these aren't that ancient but yes they kinda were outdated when these first came out 83? and especially by 1988 I think my dad paid around 7 or 8k for it back then and new I think was 13 or 14k in 88
She's a keeper!
ha! sold it. too many other rides
they were such nice cars, I never understood why gm never put a 350 in these
They did in 84 mexico cars. Also with a hurst 4 speed stick. They were decently fast but not as fast as our auto with a 350 swap
Beautiful car.
Nice man. Miss that generation g bodies
3.42 and a TH350C wonder where the rpms are at 60 mph
I recall it was around 3000 RPM
@@gregs_garage nit bad considering it has a lockup Converter 🚗
I have a blue 84 like that. Been stolen twice. I don't know what to do to make it theft resistant.
That's easy box it in with old trucks or cars and put a kill switch on it, many things you can do
Column lock lok it company name get nice alarm now they have GPS trackers also
Put in a Muncie 4spd.
Sick car
I gotta have one of these with the t-tops
not a fan of T-tops. Prefer a solid roof, but to each their own.
@Martin L I had a camaro with t-tops but I prefer a solid roof nowadays.
I have an ‘85, or an SS, but it’s in jade green on jade green with rallye wheels sittin on cobras
question i dont know if you mentioned it on the video but is that a stock? or is it a swapped engine? i want to have one of these in the future maybe in a few years if they are still on the market by then.
stock.
nice cars i had a 1986 maroon was my first best car the color looked black in the shade nice ride too bad it did not have a 350 in it
Nice car.. i got the blue 84 ss 👍
Love that color.
Nice
Is that the window defrost button under the warning lights opposite of the head light switch
I think so. Can’t remember I sold the car.
I’ve got an 87 Monte ss red interior with t-tops
Is it white?
@@willardarmbruster8111 yes
Not a stock if you get rubber in second gear.
B&M shift kit
@@gregs_garage I still find it hard to believe that is a stock 305 getting second gear rubber. I grew up in that era and ate Monte SS's for lunch with my Chevy C-10 mildly built and never seen a 305 get second gear rubber.
@@bryangeorge9461 had Edelbrock headers and a shift kit. Stock otherwise. The shift kit really makes it chirp.
If it cherk the tires it has to have a shift kit
it does yes.
Do you have a shift kit enabling it to chirp into 2nd? That cannot be stock…
correct. B&M shift kit.
I want to purchase if you are willing to sale I want the 84 specifically
Too bad they didn't come available with a 5 speed manual transmission.
Would've bought one in a heartbeat.
These cars broke traction on launches, and chirped the tires on the 1-2 shift under hard acceleration NOT because of sheer horsepower, but because of the ridiculous open differentials that Chevrolet saddled these cars with. They sold lots of Camaros and Firebirds like that, too. It was a cost cutting measure, and many ignorant buyers didn't know the difference. NO muscle car should ever be sold with an open differential. Burning rubber looks and sounds cool, but it doesn't do shit for elapsed times.
You ever do the g body shuffle
don't know what that is
@@gregs_garage it's where you take off burning out and the rear end swerves side to side
@@kylephillip6433 this 305 can't do that - except on ice.
Top speed?
They don't chirp the tires in 2nd gear. Your dreamin' or hearing what you want to hear.
this one did. 100%. listen carefully. shift kit.
Those are long tube headers not shorty’s.
Can u play ur own song list with them radio's
How much did you buy it for?
herbankidd deez nutz
I love these cars...prefer t-top
t tops reduce rigidity of the body. and they have seals and squeek and leak. Always hated T tops
That's ok, I had a 84 mustang with tops and my aunt had an 85 monte with t top and I just fell in love.....
Lol.. Had an '84 Z28 with T-tops but never took them off but a couple times. I noticed other drivers and pedestrians were looking at me like I was a asshole riding around with T-tops off. Buy one and drive around like that and you'll understand. Oh well to each their own. 100% the solid roof for structural integrity. To the O.P.: Rust also tends to accumulate in the windshield pillars due to drainage with T-tops so be mindful to inspect for that as well if you shop for a T-top car. Repair of the pillars require either great skill or great $$$.
How do these cope with corners?
not bad for an old body-on-frame car. They can be set up quite nicely but are decent stock.
In stock 36 year old form, corners are no sweat. Blows right past 'em. Not like you wanted to turn anyways, right?
@@mikebruce17 Haha! I'd like to have a drive of one. I like the styling.
@@johnnytenjobs I've had my eye on a Monte SS since the 3rd grade. I'm 36 now. Sucks that when I was in the market for a first car, they were a dime a dozen and my Dad said they would never be valuable. An MC SS in good condition is now $10k+. Sadly, I have far less buying power in my thirties than I did in my teens.
I thought they went to the 700r4
I think it was turbo 200 same as the grand national
They did not switch to 4 spd auto until 1985. The ‘83-84 had the Turbo350 3 spd with 3:42 gears. When they went to the 4spd they upped the rear gearing to 3:73. The ‘84 blue was my first car in 1987. Loved that car.
Greg's Garage - the TH200-4R
Good middle ground is a turbo 400
Zero to 60 video, thats part throttle.... Talks the whole video never actually does a real zero to 60 😒
Oh nevermind, video starts at 8:04 ends at 8:16
The original exhaust manifolds were aluminum and warped
aluminum exhaust manifolds?!
😂 Are you hopped up on dope? They were cast iron, just like every other LG4, LU5, L69, LE9, LB9, L98, etc. Keep trying goodwrench!
kinda lost me man i enjoy the power in cars and I like to hear them start up good video but next time start it up rather than already having it on but thanks on the video!
the car has been sitting for months. I'll do a cold start video soon when I bring it out of storage for the first time.
whats this metric bs
96% of the world’s population.
@@gregs_garage and no one cares, thumbs down
@@allentoyokawa9068 96% of the world's population is on metric and has been for 40+ years - get out of your bubble.
