The Fantasia of this has to be one of the most modern-sounding -- even futuristic-sounding -- pieces ever written by Bach, up there with the Fantasy of his Chromatic Fantasy and Fugue. (And in both cases, while the Fugues that follow sound more recognizably Baroque, they still fit.)
Edit: Also, even though I have heard quite a lot of J. S. Bach's secular works, I think this is the first time I have heard this particular piece. Not sure how I managed to miss this one.

Mencoboni plays this genre of music, written out improvs, better than anyone I know on the planet! How he takes the necessary time at every turn to underline imagination and changing texture. He has a genius for this whether in Frescobaldi or Bach.

Marco is an absolute phenomenon. His creative insight into whatever music he is playing is a phenomenon. Never monochromatic, always with "les richesses de l'orient sur votre table, Madame!" :) :)

Todo a un gran nivel, el intérprete, el instrumento,.,.. pero se impone por encima de estas consideraciones el increíble talento de JSB, , que en sus fantasías vuela alto y libre, asombroso. Como pudo existir un talento así?

@@philippefritsch1892 Well I think Mencobini is an exceptional harpsichord player.
Artisticly very much on his own of course.
Still , all three practice an historical approach. The phrasing of the music
      has to do with that.
It was studied and practiced by Leonhardt already in the 1950's
and Koopman was the first using 'old
fingering' . This 'old historic practice'
is the base for playing on historic harpsichords or copies .
A great painter (As Mencobini is a great harpsichordist, (oh yes !!))
is not persé a less painter if he has been influenced by Vermeer or Rembrand or Poussin , whatever...
So no one has to be offended.
What you say here is obviously true at the same time as well.

@@philippefritsch1892 The Fitsh Sweelinck exchange of views shows how the same can be said so that the meaning changes slightly.
I intrude on the quiet discussion, observing that Leonhardt's approach represents his authoritative sensitivity. We can never say that it is more authentic than that of Koopmann. The difference is that Leonhardt is a pure cembalist and Koopman is always an organist, even when he is at the harpsichord. To understand, compare Koopmann's Sweelinck "More Palatino" with that of Amaya Fernandez.
You will understand it by yourself. Let me know.
Mencoboni combines skill, culture and an expressive sensibility that is generally absent in the Northern European tradition.

A tricky piece that tests the difference between a mediocre performer and a master with its seemingly dull repeated passages and chord figuration sequences but in fact is full of drama, passion and tension that Signore Mencoboni reveals so admirably :)

Mr. Mencoboni, I greatly enjoyed your performance but I must admit it`s perhaps the most mysterious of all Bach compositions. Such repetitive structures must have some sort of extra musical meaning,
as for example in the cantata 70 Wachet betet when they represent waiting for the second coming of Christ. What is this piece about in your opinion - does it have a serious meaning or reversely, is it some kind of a joke? And why is the second part called a fugue when in reality it doesn`t have anything to do with it?

  • @rmk2879
    @rmk2879 Před 2 lety

Origins of music unevidenced. Except it is gift to humanity from God the Creator. Music continues in heaven. Discontinues in hell.
Jesus Christ came from heaven to earth for one purpose only - to die on cross for remissions of pre-existing sins of every single person and to resurrect. Jesus Christ providing forgiveness from pre-existing sins for every single person, salvation from eternity in hell and free entry to eternity in heaven for all who repent of sins in Jesus Christ.
Other side of death is eternity. Eternity in hell. Or eternity in heaven through Jesus Christ.
Penalty of pre-existing sins already paid by Jesus Christ on The Cross. Accept HIM. Repent sins in Jesus Christ name. Be saved from eternal in hell. Enter heaven. Enjoy heavenly music. For free.
