Hi! Thank you for sharing your journey. I’m a former Roman Catholic Priest, I hold a Master’s Degree of Divine Theology, I studied theology in Rome at the Gregorian University. I have a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and because of my studies, because I asked questions I realized the absolute falsehood of religious doctrine. Your elegance in sharing your movement into learning, logic and critical thinking are so well done and deliberate and I have no doubt as you continue your education your voice will be more and more powerful and relevant. Keep sharing if you care to and best to you. Cheers.

Ooh, mate, shouldn't have studied philosophy, not as someone with a nice career in religion. Learn how to discern truth from falsehood, so far as such a thing might be possible. Learn cognitve weaknesses and their associated false arguments. Learn the nature of truth, if either things exist. Doubt is the origin of wisdom, after all.
So yeah especially Catholicism which is particularly spooky and very heavy on the theatre and mystery. Lots of things you're not allowed to know but it's intimated it's incrediby serious and powerful. When half of them are based on a time a bishop couldn't find his socks in 1528 so he proclaimed something. "Sacred Tradition" my arse, mate.
Shining the light of doubt into that complete mudheap, ridden with cobwebs and crawling creeps, is going to blast it all away like... have you seen those laser cleaners you can get now? Dangerous as you could possibly imagine, but a powerful fibre laser of a few watts that blasts rust off tools and removes graffiti from walls! You have to watch it on CZcams. Anyway that's your light of doubt and logic and things like that, blasting away very successfully at something that's old but when you look close, is stupid and useless and shoddy and made from stapled-together crackers.

I lost my best friend to this cult. She had been out of it for 20 years then about 3 months ago she started going again. I'm not sure how she doesn't see the craziness of it. We've been best friends for 9 almost 10 years. During that time she was always a leader never a follower. Then being last year she started going through some rough times. I was by her side every day trying to help her through it. But because of these hard times she started searching for something to make her happy. She started going to Bible study with her grandmother and before I knew it she had jumped whole heartily back into it. Since I am not a witness it started putting a widget in between our friendship. I really hate that things have turned out the way it has. I wish nothing but happiness for her. If she finds happiness in the witness then great but I'm afraid that it's going to turn into a disaster. If it does I'll be here if she needs me. I love her like my sister and hope for nothing but the best for her.

Excellent reasoning! I spent 12 years as an elder. I left for many reasons, but one of them was because the natural world presents so much indisputable evidence that the JW version of events made no sense. After being raised from a child as JW, science convinced me that the JW view of our past, present and therefore our future could not possibly be true. I left and began to develop my interest in science and truth. As a teacher now, I encourage all my students to question everything! Only by asking questions can we increase our knowledge. Keep up the great work, your video provides the kind of reasoning that promotes inteligent thinking.

Having been raised a JW, my first clear instance of cognitive dissonance occurred because of animals too. They preached that humans would live forever, but animals wouldn't. I remember being about 10 or 12, and asking my mother, "How are we never going to be sad ever again if the animals are going to die?" She said something about Jehovah making us forget, or some garbage like that. But that answer didn't satisfy me. I was a child who loved her pet cats dearly. I didn't WANT to forget them. From then on, whenever someone talked about the New System, I just couldn't imagine myself there. With my mind rejecting the carrot, it became easier to recognize the stick.
Years later, having spent time working with animals - at shelters, then a hospital - I learned more about feline biology and the fact that they're obligate carnivores. Even still, it never occurred to me that that fact was a Jenga piece that could send the infallibility of the Bible toppling down. For you to consider that point at a young age, that's some big brain thinking. I'm really impressed.

Also, can we agree that if God making carnivores is an evil thing, then it follows suit that being a carnivore is evil? @@suzyaustin5427 You've made a few assumptions and non sequiters there Suzy ! I can't answer for the guy in the video but I can give you some answers from an athiest point of view. Firstly, atheists don't 'blame' or feel 'angry' with God. We just don't find evidence of his existence. Ascribing 'evil' to an event is to put a human value to it. It's neither good nor bad, it just 'is'. For example, in the Bible, the book of Leviticus gives clear instructions on how to get and treat slaves, virgin girls and killing enemies to get them. It was 'good' at that time but thankfully we, today, find it 'evil'. So, clearly, humans are the ones who determine if something is good or bad based on how it serves their needs at that time. Hope that helps.

The randomness of life gave rise to gods that controlled the weather, volcanoes, the oceans etc. As people began to figure out the causes of eclipses, tsunamis and other phenomena, the gods that were assigned to them began to lose their power. In the West, today, we have the Abrahamic God which reflects the values and science of people from 3,500 years ago and I guess He's still evolving.

And yet there is no evidence for the existence of God - any god. The entire universe, including planet Earth, works exactly as you would expect given what we know about the laws of physics. in other words, if you take God out of the equation, things continue to work EXACTLY as they do. You don't need God to explain anything.
The problem for you gets worse, though: in order to believe what you believe, you have to shut your eyes to a huge body of evidence that flies in the face of religion. You have to deny evolution, which is now proven beyond any doubt. You also have to deny the fossil record, which shows not only how and when animals evolved but also proves that animals have been around for millions of years, not the 6,000 years that the Bible claims.
You can believe whatever you want, and live out the rest of your life in your fantasy world. That is your right. But don't start telling other people that your god is real. It doesn't stand up to the most minimal scrutiny.

Can I ask a question about how the organization teaches vs what is in the Bible? Did the study material ever cover Isaiah 45:7? It states: I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil(ra): I the LORD do all these things. I inserted the Hebrew word "ra" next to evil, because the NWT does not say "evil" there. I want to point out that in Genesis, it uses the word "ra" when describing the tree of knowledge of Good, and evil\bad(ra). I know this will hurt a Jw quite badly, but their translation of this is "ra". It's bad. But what I really would like to know is this: If God is real, and the Bible is an accurate replication of what he said......Does watchtower actually teach how God is revealed in the Bible, or do they teach their own version of God, who is not found in the Bible?

This was awesome. I was disfellowshipped along with my sister in 1973 when I was barely 20 and my sister was only 15. We had quit but the elders said it was a one way door, we could come in but could not leave. We were terribly hurt. Eventually my poor sister would runaway and become a prostitute. I too went through a serious time of reasoning while sitting at the kitchen table. I concluded that believing took a leap of faith that I no longer had. It had started with evolution while I was in high school. I started a discussion in my science class and I realized that evening that many of MY arguments supported evolution. I went to an elder to get more info and I realized he didn't know a damn thing about science. This lead to me becoming engaged to and marrying a 'worldly person' which eventually lead me away from what JWs called 'the truth'. I went to college and I wanted to know everything. I took all kinds of classes; I was absolutely crazy to see the world without a religious lens. I was starving for knowledge. I became a teacher and was very successful.
I see the teacher in you. All that training going door to door and making presentations at meetings is great experience for a career in education. Thank you for doing this. Is this The Lacie Jones? Can I just tell you how much of an impact hearing your story had on me. I used to be in the Great Bridge congregation and several others in the midlands over the years. I knew your step dad and was always struck by his presence in a room. What an imposing man! But I also remember watching him attempt to shout down my cousin during an argument. She was an 8 stone ringing wet young woman who told him, 'don't raise your voice at me, just because you shout louder doesn't make you right'! He did not like that! To be told off at all was bad enough, but especially by the 'weaker vessel'! I was utterly shocked at the way your elders failed to provide the needed evidence in his trial. At that point I myself was serving as an elder and couldn't yet see the obvious faults in the CSA procedure. But your story illuminated it for me in such fantastic detail. And with it being such a recent situation I knew no one in the Borg would be able to hide behind the argument that this was 'back in the day'. You're such a strong person to have come out with your story and I genuinely applaud you for doing so. I'd love to get in touch with you to discuss your experiences in the org. And even more interesting: if Satan modified some animals to be carnivores, did he also modify the herbivores to be able to defend themselves? or did Jehovah do that to protect them? If Jehovah had the power to give defenses to herbivore, why didn't he just... un-carnivore the carnivores?

So if Jehovah instructed not to make weapons of war no more, rather, turn swords into plowshares, men can also halt the manufacturing of weapons if they want to. Lets convert that to animal defense mechanisms, like men's intellect, animal defense mechanisms known today might have other useful purposes other than defending themselves, which only God knows. If God wants all animals to stop killing each other for food then by His will He can. Everything is possible in God's arrangements, no need for an evolution. I remember a aboriginal young lady that often sat beside me on my commute to work on the bus. One day she was crying quietly. I only ever said hello and talked about the weather, but this time I asked her if she was okay. She hesitantly revealed that she had been completely disfellowshipped from her JW congregation for questioning her elders on some issues. But what got me was that she was shunned by all her friends and her family. While I do like a few of the JW imperatives, her experience was enough to convince me that the organization we all get bugged by at our doors was a travesty, let alone all their theological nonsense, anti-science, and overbearing authority hierarchy.
