    The squad played excellently
    And they would have played good @ the 2010 AFCON and most of them would have been big stars.
    After all, GK Ajiboye did better than De Gea throughout the game, but the Spanish GK is still performing till date.
    They made an unbelievable record in the history of U17 world cups. Though they were underrated and neglected by the Nigerian Football Federation___NFF

    2007 Nigeria-Chrisantus was the tournament golden boy, fast forward to 2021 I've not seen him. See De Gea,Illaramedi,Kroos. Something is wrong somewhere with Nigeria football. We always win this youth tournament easily but what happens to the senior team. We've got talent in 9ja but those talent are not utilized. Thank God for the likes for Osimen, iheanacho,Mikel who shined in this kind of tournament and remain relevant till now. For this 2007 team, I feel sad for them. They were too good to be forgotten.

    @segunrotimiadeyemo4965 Před 5 lety +11

    The problem with our developmental teams / players i.e U17, 20, 23 not progressing very well is not majorly due to age cheating. We agree that age cheating is indeed a problem but there are other factors responsible for their lack of progress. There are many factors that bothers on technical, social, psychological and economic reasons.
    1. Our local leagues are not well developed which means, if no European clubs come for any of them, their chances of progressive development will be hampered. Also, some of them are still doing well in our local leagues but who remembers them?
    2. This problem is not peculiar with Nigerian team. If you look at many countries even those with developed leagues, how many of those players realy excel in later years? For example in this Spanish team you mentioned De Gea...who else? We can also mention that Ajiboye is still doing well in Nigeria and is one of the goal keepers called to the Super Eagles camp recently. So, we can see that the Spanish team has not realy made much progress despite their superior league and development.
    3. The strategy and focus of our football administrators and coaches also need to change from that of winning cups to development of the lads. This way, the coaches will not want to win at all cost thereby engaging over age players but will develop younger lads for the future.
    4. The mentality of our society also need to change. Once any of the lads excel, the family and community sees them as cash cow and the focus is now about how much money the boy can make rather than how can the boy progress professionally. This causes a lot of distractions to the boys.
    5. Our FA also lack technical and professional abilities to nurture these boys to stardom.
    6. Because the competitions occur every 2 years, the regular occurrence makes it difficult to follow up with the boys in terms of mentor ship, professional development and other assistance, as focus is shifted every 2 years to new boys and he previous are easily forgotten and left on their own. This is a difficult one to deal with. As, if the games are staged with many years apart, how do we handle the budding talents that would have come through within the period of no games?
    7. The government must also jettison the huge cash reward to these boys. It is a distraction. Once some of them get exposed to a lot of cash, the hunger to relay excel will reduce.
    8. Most of our players are indiscipline. This hurt but it is the truth. Small money gets into their heads and they start misbehaving. Carrying girls up and down, drinking and partying and no longer taking training seriously. Once they have money, their parents (who are sometimes poor and dependent on them) cannot even advise to them anymore. All these contributes to their premature downfall in their professional life.
    9. An average Nigerian lacks longevity, we like quick fix, immediate glory etc. This is why we cannot do well in long distance races or games/sport that require endurance. This social, physiological and psychological conditioning also makes it difficult to stay playing professional for long term especially once they come to money.
    10. Lastly, most of these players, play football to escape poverty not because they relay love the game. Its all about the money. So, once they get a club that pays them decent salary that makes them escape poverty and take care of relations, they loose the hunger to excel. After all, na money I dey find and I don get am.

That's the damn difference with our African players and their white counterparts. The white people keep their heads down and keep working hard to reach top level. They mismanaged everything , human and natural resources., Fr Australia to new Zealand to every part of Europe and America u see Nigeria doing well in every field. From our past to the present leaders , they have all fall. Now l understand why someone said our leaders , present n past should be given a mass burial.

    What we don't realised is that the Europeans and Americans have good youth football development than Africans. If the Nigerian team were to be from any European countries, most of this players would have been world cup winners or close to. But Africans face a process of used and dump, even the benefits accrued to them take years before the players can get it. Atimes it is even through protest. Dele Ajiboye is still playing but underrated because he is in Nigerian local league.
    The problem of African youth football is not age cheat or over age players but poor management system and psychologists
