I decided to look back here. Seeing how it looks different to the final game, my worries for New Horizons have been settled a bit.

the lighting and textures are what im most worried about, and those look pretty similar from here to new leaf :(

Matthäus Wey 3D engines have lights in them you place to simulate atmospheric light. The lighting for the New horizon trailer has this fog over them, causing the world to not have any refraction light (light that bounces off the colors around them) or bright colors, its all a bit washed out. Hoping they change that for the final product and get it looking more like the village in Mario Kart

Same, it's the first AC game I've ever played
I played Wild World first and love that game to bits, but New Leaf improved upon it in many ways, still prefer Wild World's soundtrack though, and that Nook has a more prominent role in WW too, I like Nook a lot more than Isabelle.
The one thing that ruined New Leaf though was that you could easily make boat loads of money really quickly... It kinda made it too easy and ruined the fun.
Same... they did a good job with New Leaf.

Apparently new horizons started development after new leaf was finished. 8 years of development... wow. Granted they were also making the splatoon games too.

Well I don't think so considering that there were 2 years since this trailer and the final release date and with new horizons there are only 9 months left so I don't think many things will change but I hope so!
E3 -> New Leaf = 17 months in Japan, 2 years in America and Europe

You can't compare them, New Leaf has all content available, but new horizons will add a lot of content along all its lifespan
Music, lack of content, and villager dialogue in new horizons was what made people like new leaf better

True. When I started playing Animal Crossing back with population growing, I mostly didn't even know what to do. I just ran around talking to villagers and fishing. Same thing with all the other installations, including NL. With New Horizons, it's just not fun. After 80 hours I already know the dialogues by heart and it's more of a "you're cute you can live here, you're ugly you can't move in here" game than anything else.

I actually like how the trees look. They seemed like they were gonna take a chance and change things up, but the New Leaf trees look like City Folk and so on. I just wish they were taller trees like back in the GameCube version. They raised the height of the characters, but not the trees to match lol

Looks funky. They had totally different looking trees, flowers and tent in this pre version. I don't think grass was ever that dark in autumn either. 1:12 - you couldn't even get a diving suit before the boat was there, except from another town! 😁

This was my favorite Animal Crossing game in the entire series, and my first Animal Crossing game. I miss the 3DS.
Funny how youtube recommends this on this exact day..after watching the 2/20/20 animal crossing direct for new horizons, it's amazing to see how far the series has come...

That's actually an early version of the "Loose and wavy/Laid-back looseness" haircut. Bed hair looks the same as it did in City Folk, so it's safe to assume it also looked the same in this early version despite not being shown.

This game will go in my list of one of the greatest 3ds games of all times. New Horizons may be a masterpiece, but New Leaf brings back nostalgia to me that could probably never be emulated with any other game. I love Animal Crossing, and I love Nintendo.

wow, I remember getting this game when I was 7 years old. I was spent so much time on my town, talking to all my villagers, planting flowers, and filling up the museum. I’m 14, almost 15 in a couple weeks and when my mom surprised me with animal crossing new horizons as an early birthday present, I felt the excitement of my 7 year old self from all those years ago. It felt nice to look back on those old memories, and now, we get to make brand new ones🏝
im 15 too, I remember playing New Leaf a whole ton as well, I reset my town twice, eventually hacked my 3DS and that lead to also hacking New Leaf. It was a ton of fun.

This was *eight* years ago? Holy cow, time goes by quick. My first Animal Crossing game was City Folk, and despite its many flaws and its position of being the least liked of the series, it’s still very special to me.

They already made new leaf so it's not likely for them to put Animal crossing on the 3DS. Maybe Animal crossing became that other game on the switch, Old Horizons

Can we talk about how the unused music at 1:07 makes me cry? I got New Leaf later in its lifespan, Christmas of 2015. I LOVED that game to death, and after many years of making town after town, i finally have one I'm happy with, and even a second cartridge for a second town. I recently got Horizons, but my joycon conviniently started drifting a day after I got it. Looks like I'm not done in my little town of Oakgrove. :')

The best part about Animal Crossing is the appearance of Isabelle. I love when she cheers me up with her kind words. But I love it even more when treating her with the respect she deserves for her hard work.

It’s 3AM and I’m actually crying I miss the old days were I used to be so excited to get home and play on my DS and do nothing but that, even on my birthday I used to play it non stop always talking to my villagers until the last one goes to bed I’ll never ever forget this game it’s such a precious memory

This was the first game i had on my 3ds, I was 4 when this game came out and was already a fan of wild world, when my dad bought this for me I was in love, I'm still playing every day 8 years later, this is what got me into gaming, I'll never forget animal crossing new leaf.
getting this recommended to me now reminds me that a lot of people will be saying bye to new leaf. it'll fade slowly into the background...it's time for a new horizon, and it makes me kinda sad.
But the good ol' New Leaf memories wil be forever in our hearts. I might play NL sometime later to check up on things and admire the evolution between NL and NH.

Used to watch this trailer so much….
The first Animal Crossing game I ever played was City Folk when I was about seven and there was just something about it that made me instantly fall in love with it. I would rush home from school to play it everyday until I didn’t. Few more years down the line this game, New Leaf, came out and I was transported back to those days and just HAD to buy it. I managed to get the special AC edition 3DS and was over the moon. Honestly, it feels like it was just yesterday and it’s crazy to think how time has just gone. With New Horizons being released recently I’ve since parted ways with the 3DS and bought the AC edition switch and I just wanted to thank you, Nintendo, for all the happy memories your games have given me over the years. Here’s to many more.

This was the birth of the best Animal Crossing game!
christmas morning, 2013, you just got your acnl cartridge, you create your character with rover, you go to your town only to realize you’re the mayor and you’re like “WHAAAATTT!!”. the first thing you do is run around to check out all your villagers and explore the new city area. you go up to it to see that it looks completely abandoned and you’re like “☹️”.
then after a few months of playing you’re suddenly stupid rich and unlocked every building in the game lol, at least that’s how it went for me
