KTLA anchor Frank Buckley interviews music legend "Weird Al" Yankovic. New episodes of Frank Buckley Interviews airing at a special time Saturdays at 5:30PM & Sundays at 11:30PM on KTLA 5.
This was such a good interview. So many interviews you hear the same questions over and over again but this one really nailed some stuff I had never heard before. very cool!
Wow, I never realized how smart he was. I mean, I knew he had to be intelligent, the amazing songs he writes, but skipping a grade and graduating at 16? Dang.
That's not really impressive, Kim Ung-Yong got his PhD at 15 and Karl Witte got his PhD at 13. And Nicholson has one bachelor's degree, two associate's degrees, 22 master's degrees, three specialist degrees and one doctoral degree. That's impressive.
Finally an interview that isnt about who wouldn't let him parody or was Coolio mad at him for Amish paradise. Love Al. Seen him 4 times. Glad this interview is so smart.
Frank, you're a great interviewer. You seem to genuinely care about your interviewee's answers. You brought out a very rare side (a more serious) of Al.
I've met AL several times and he's such a genuinely kind soul. I feel sorry for him when these interviewers want to force him to relive the tragic passing of his parents. I hope few interviewers in the future will feel the need to reopen those wounds. It just seems twisted and exploitive. They were his parents and he loved them deeply and it's a hurt that he is always going to feel, every day. What more do they expect him to say or want to say? He shouldn't have to relive that with every other dummy who wants an interview, because the interviewer for their own selfish purposes wants to have a "deep personal" moment in the interview where they exploit Al's pain and trauma. Anyone with a heart doesn't want to watch Al relive and talk about something so painful to him.
I have to say, I am about 12 years younger than Weird Al, but I remember listening to the Dr. Dimento Show every weekend with my friends in the 80's on the radio when I was a teenager. Loved it, and got introduced to "Weird Al" Yankcovic. Another One Rides the Bus. One of the many great songs Dr. Dimento had on. We were the hugest Weird Al Yankovic fans at that point. The show that came on after it was Dr. Ruth Ginsberger "Sexually Speaking." But we were already stoned by that time so we didn't care.
I’m 53 and the only concert I’ve been to was Weird Al Yankovick at the Minnesota State Fair, which I think was 2009. It was a fantastic experience and I was surprised by the vast difference in age of the people attending.
"My singing left something to be desired"? You have to be kidding me. Al can do any style. Any artist. He's more talented than anyone he covers. Incredible.
Just saw him this last week. He sings well enough to front a (regular/bar) band. He's right about multi generational popularity. I saw entire families there in addition to his older fan base. His shows have not been about his parodies but focuses more on his truly original stuff like 'The biggest ball of twine in Minnesota.' It was a good show.
What I liked about "Smells Like Nirvana" was how Al didn't really PICK ON Nirvana. It seemed as if Al simply took the entire concept SURROUNDING Nirvana, and headed in the OPPOSITE direction with it. I do remember how all of the members OF Nirvana also thought the video for the song was HILARIOUS! GREAT for both Al AND Nirvana!

I liked how Frank had his pages of notes but didn't really need them. A good conversation.
I played "eat it" for my 6-year-old daughter who was being picky at dinner last night. She loved it.
Al made one of the best songs ever: The Saga Begins.

Al was the valedictorian and went to college at 16 and got his degree in architecture.
@@michaelwright8896 And name one funny song they wrote.
@@sophiet1576 Exactly! I never heard of any of those people. They're just collecting trophies. "Weird Al" actually has an impact on people's lives.
@@sophiet1576 And the only reason he chose architecture was it was on the list of careers on the back of the SATs and it was the first one listed.
"Well i was an embryo and-"
This is the exact same kind of humor i have and i feel so idnetified lmao
after a while, I grew fingers and toes - it's a long story - 🙂

If I was Al, Id be offended by the same questions asked by interviewers for the past 30 years. Almost all Al interviews are the same.
stinkydroolface he's so sweet tho
Yeah omg they waste interviews
he is very gracious
All hail "The Weird One"!!! The real king of all of the needs, geeks, spazzes ect...
As a nerd I love his music parodies
The nerds of the world are persecuted in school but are often the movers and shakers as adults. Case in point.

Thank you for that wonderful interview.
Best music artist ever

Dang, what a great interview! So much about him I've wondered for years.
“Weird Al” Yankovic needs to be in a rock Hall of Fame
I just want to know what conditioner does he use because he has great hair.
He's very unassuming, and modest, and it's very gratifying to see that, as a fan since Dr. Demento days. I think he's my soulmate, but he's taken.
or maybe his roommate (from college days - who still plays bass in the band) ❤
Weird Al Is A Legend

With a great range as well.
Everyone's said it. Been watching all of weird Al's interviews after watching his biopic. Easily the best one here because of Frank 👏
Great interview. I did a lot of parody myself but wasn’t a musician, so I lived my dreams through Al, polkaing my eyes out.
There is no legal requirement for Weird Al to get permission for parodies. He's just too nice a guy to do it without.
Al kind of reminds me of Tiny Tim, and that's a compliment.
I've always thought of AL as more of a Bob Cratchit type or perhaps Ghost of Christmas Present.
Al loses his parents and he still puts his fans before himself. That is a true man right there. 😢😊
Frank Zappa loves you.
He did a style parody called a paste of Frank Zappa song called "Genius in France" on the album Poodle Hat.

Next stop...Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
Feels like I'm listening to Howard Stern. Good interview.
13:21 Weird Al's impression of Lady Ga Ga sounds like Quentin Tarantino
hair is amazing
Weird Al is truly one of a kind. Just saw him turn the Trump vs Biden debate into a song :P
Weird Al Yankovic is God
Only 5 years older than me , I missed my calling
His people now range from Nerdy to Jock to Joe Average. He's basically a cult leader.
@Steve Benn People usually go to his shows of their own free will, but I heard that the fun was mandatory during one of his tours. ;+)
18:35 and 19:47 Al is very good looking
al yankovic like like michael jackson beat it like eat it like cat to like and do like dog like car
That's EXACTLY what I was JUST THINKING! WOW!
"Weird Al" Yankovic , the next Albert Einstein.
Milo Murphy's law, wreck gar, (teen Titans go) darksied interview
Wow he becoming an old boi
NO SIGNAL he doesn't look aged at all to me, been a fan of his since the 80s though. First record I got was Weird Al.
He sure doesn't look his age, though!
