    4. SOUNDBITE (English) Elizabeth Emanuel, designer - on Diana's involvement with choosing design:
"It started by us going through the rails because we wanted her to try on different shapes to see which one she felt most comfortable in. And that's actually when she picked the dress, very, very similar to what you actually saw on the day. Certainly the silhouette. We picked that silhouette and then we started to go into more detail and came up with lots of sketches and ideas, you know, and it's sort of grew organically."

    7. SOUNDBITE (English) Elizabeth Emanuel, designer - on the final fitting:
"With Diana's wedding we did take into account the fact that it was going to be at St. Paul's which is absolutely massive, which was one of the reasons that we wanted to have a very long train and. Because that was the last thing that we actually saw - our studio was so small we could never really roll the train out to its full length and it was only when we went to Buckingham Palace in the last fitting that we could roll out the train and it was really long. I think it surprised us actually. We had to go into another corridor and block it off so nobody could come and see. It was the first time that we've actually seen the train fully extended and Diana in the dress really."

    10. SOUNDBITE (English) Elizabeth Emanuel, designer - on Diana's dress and what Kate's might be like:
"The thing is, that dress really reflected the '80s and New Romance, you know, and at the time we didn't think it particularly reflective of the '80s. We didn't see it that way, it was just what we did. That's why it's quite interesting, you know, this time around, you know, to think of what is around. What are the fashions, what's the... What's going to be the element of this particular time that's going to appear in this dress? And it's probably more difficult to guess what it might be you know. It really could be anything. I think it's lovely the brides always try to want to make a statement and I think that's really important, you know, to be a little bit different. At the same time it's a royal wedding dress so there's certain things that have to be classic. I think, you know, it's part of history so it's very important that it's right. That's the thing. You really don't get a second chance with these kind of dresses, you know, you have to get it right."

Whether or not people like the design, there is no doubt it is an iconic dress that everyone remembers (compared to the cookie-cutter wedding dresses we see today). Perfect for a royal wedding.

The back up wedding dress was beautiful. That would have been my first choice.

She reminds me of Helena Bonham Carter. There’s a video of the young designers and young Princess Diana meeting discussing the dress on Fanky Danky youtube channel.

It was a horrible design!! Much to large making her look thrown into the thing. What was the designer thinking on this? Diana was still a girl and not mature to actually make the right choices. I think she was taken advantage of and not having a way to say NO to the designer. Oh. well it's over with as the years went on she become more aware of style. Simple is always the best !

Well what do you expect!! It was obviously needed. She was marrying the future king!!!

It was the 80s and most ppl in the world like the dress 😆 Plus both designers were also very young back then, therefore I disagree with “being pressured”. Go watch the video of the young designers and young Princess Diana meeting to discuss about the dress on CZcams channel Fanky Danky, yes there’s a video of them discussing the dress!

You forget that Diana dropped down in like 5 sizes do to bulimia after she was measured so the dress was much bigger on her at her actual wedding. Coupled by the fact that the whole thing wrinkled in the carriage ride from Clarence House to St. Paul's. Then got worse on the journey from the cathedral to Buckingham Palace. So it wasn't the designers fault. Circumstances just gave way.

That’s your personal opinion. Most people in the world loved how stunning Diana looked on her wedding day. It created a style for the eighties and until now that dress is an icon on fashion.
