If you play a regular account then you can buy bonds and then convert the bonds to in game gold making regular accounts p2w. If Ironman mode didn't exist I would have quit playing as soon as Jagex introduced the bond. I would still play a regular account if the bond didn't exist though.

Honestly as a recovering fentanyl addict, RuneScape / gaming addiction is pretty serious too. It won't kill you as fast as fentanyl but it can negatively affect your life. If your only social interactions are online and you are spending 40+ hours a week on RuneScape, I would consider seeing if you are a gaming addict. There are surprisingly a lot of support groups for that stuff

It was one of the best decisions of my life. When I did the math and found out I was wasting entire percentage points on my life expectancy playing RS I knew it had to stop. I worked a landscaping job a few years ago. For a while, all I did for my entire workday was split logs with a log splitter in the freezing cold. I would then return home and relax by woodcutting in OSRS. Got 99
coming back to osrs as an adult gave me the most insane existential crisis I've ever felt in my life and now anytime I try to play it I end up feeling awful like it's some weird form of meth, but without any of the positives (I haven't tried meth).
There are people that commit hate crimes and shit to get their dopamine hit. I feel like I'm the grand scheme of thing, we're probably not doing too terribly, plus the pvm is fun.
This. The game is pure cozy vibes but the actual mechanics of it are like a soul-draining meth addiction. Just compulsively doing the same repetitive action again and again in the hopes of getting somewhere higher. I had the same exact crisis coming back to it. I’ve experienced this same empty realization after accomplishing many irl goals that people would consider more productive than vidya. It’s really true to life. Once you get to the finish line, you’re like, ‘that’s it? Well okay cool. What now? I guess I’ll do this thing Ive been doing for 10k hours some more!” Damn. I guess the lesson here is, if it was a goal you enjoyed striving for and a skill you enjoy having, it doesn’t matter how long you spent on it or what it is, even if it is just a video game. The end feeling of emptiness is really the same in all cases. Just remember to have fun along the way and enjoy the small moments.

Even though I like OSRS a lot more than RS3 - it still not runescape version I want to play. 2008-2011 runescape was the best.Especially graphics of that era. Also I really hate bonds system and how expansive membership is. Which is why I barely play runescape at all. But if we brought back time capsule of 2008-2011 runescape I would have continue playing. Wouldn't even care if there is no updates.
Every time I tell somebody about Jesus and how he's changed my life I get a metric ton of meaning out of those conversations. Being able to play a role in bringing somebody from death to life gives me more meaning than all the tens of thousands of hours I've put into video games combined.
Getting 99 Hunter back in 2010 helped my 12 year old self learn how to follow something through. One of the first real achievements I'd ever earned just myself, I remember that day vividly. Not many things I would trade that feeling for.

This video hits hard and can ring true for a lot of people. I’ll be the first to say I wasted more time than I should have in my tween years on this game. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve found coming back to RS every few months or even for a few weeks out of the year to be comforting. My life has been crazy lately- mostly in a good way. I’ve moved abroad, started learning the local language, I’m working, and a full time student. With all this new stuff going on, that light at the end of the tunnel can feel so far away sometimes. When I come back to RS, it’s nice to sit down on my cozy couch with a cup of coffee and a podcast, and to work on my small bit achievable goals on my humble iron man account.
this is what rs is supposed to do, just get to get a few hours fun out of the day. I cant achieve anything with only few hours a week in osrs, so i just log in to chat in the ge, or just watch osrs twitch streams.
I also wasted a lot of time on rs when I was 12 back in the mid-2000's. It's like wow I am never getting that time back, could have spent it doing more things. Now, I'm an adult with a lot less free time than as a kid.
I got 99 FM as a kid as my first 99. Tbh, I just felt proud. It was one of my first times committing to a long-term goal and following through, practicing sticking with something I'd committed to even when it got boring, instead of just getting yanked around by whatever activity seemed stimulating at the moment. It also inspired my two closest friends to work on a 99 (fletching and cooking.) Ultimately "useless", but no more useless than time spent on any other game, and this one helped practice commitment. Something we look back on fondly.
That ending is straight up sinister. We can get so lost in the screen, that we forget that we're really just sitting in a room alone clicking a mouse and clacking a keyboard. Nome of it really matters or makes a difference in your life 😅
@traildawg nothing matters 100% and I'm actually pretty nihilistic myself so your comment intrigued me, but emotions do still get in the way sometimes and it's hard to live in the moment and just enjoy the human experience because feeling frightened or having anxiety every once inawhile is still a part of the meaningless journey were all on.
I can sit tapping away at a keyboard and mouse or controller or mobile phone, playing self-contained video games with NPC characters where my activities are tracked by corporations, or I can do the same thing with thousands of other players, or I can write comments on CZcams reacting to videos of said games, and theoretically, I can even have a job consisting of doing menial tasks, or tapping away at a keyboard like I do with video games. It's all chipping away at or building a mountain.

It was finally the day, my childhood dream of getting a 99 was becoming a reality. It was the only thing I had ever lusted over as a kid. At age 28 I finally get to experience the feeling of the achievement and the celebratory spam messages around me. ☺ It was my time. i went to the GE and asked for a bowstring... everyone roasted me for begging and when someone finally gave me one I made a shortbow and hit 99 fletching... no one cared 🤣

I got 99 runecrafting in oldschool back in 2014/2015. Insane mind numbing grind at 24k xp/hr. This was basically my response haha, I quit within a few days and sold all the GP for a new graphics card. What a waste of time that was.
That's just one....my friend got me hooked in 5th grade. I spent years and years in that game and qualify fornthe 20 year cape if there is one. maxed out with a few 200m achievements. At the end, before I quit I remember standing at the grand exchange wondering what was the point. Had all the raid gear, I played osrs including the forced upgrade to EOC. Went through it all from introducing ancients and barrows. To the fight kiln and everything in between. The game wasn't the same as when I was a kid where tons of resources points were filled with people starting random conversations or the thrill of you couldn't just look up guides or watch CZcams for the best exp rates. You had to stand out at falador selling stuff to hopefully afford that coveted dragon chain body. It's a soulless game now with everyone rushing through content like theatre of blood and no talking while doing activities. Glad I put it down cause that's exactly how I felt...wasted time and life and not a damn thing to show for it besides pixles on a screen.
I wish I didn't play this game for 15 years. It has unironically destroyed my life. This is the most hard hitting video for me. I'm now 35 with no wife or kids or gf ever or friends ever.

Haha this was funny and great. 99 cooking was different. I had a gigantic party and gave out pies. It has provided me with a great business. I have sold to many people since i can never burn food.

Inferno cape was a colossal feat that I had accomplished (300m setup) and it felt so good in those 3 or so minutes that felt like hours and I had a massive mood boost for a whole week or more. Failing 1-2 hour attempts is just so fucking brutal. During that time you maintain your resources and play extremely well. It’s extremely exhausting, one mistake which could take place in one tick or 0.6 of a second could set you back two hours. Anyways got 2 zuk attempts before the final third. It was worth the months it had been lingering on my mind for to get that cape.
I don't know who needs to hear this, but time you enjoyed wasting, is not wasted time. Not every moment of your life has to be "productive" you can chase happiness for its own sake. If clicking on digital trees bring you joy, go click on those trees. You do not need to min/max your life.

I deleted a month from my life grinding 99 agility during covid. Its still the only 99 Ive ever gotten. Hours of just running circles on a rooftop whilst watching youtube.
How many hours of watching youtube/social media do people consume on average? How much time is wasted on a phone?

This video hits hard and can ring true for a lot of people. I’ll be the first to say I wasted more time than I should have in my tween years on this game.
As I’ve gotten older, I’ve found coming back to RS every few months or even for a few weeks out of the year to be comforting. My life has been crazy lately- mostly in a good way. I’ve moved abroad, started learning the local language, I’m working, and a full time student. With all this new stuff going on, that light at the end of the tunnel can feel so far away sometimes.
When I come back to RS, it’s nice to sit down on my cozy couch with a cup of coffee and a podcast, and to work on my small bit achievable goals on my humble iron man account.
this is what rs is supposed to do, just get to get a few hours fun out of the day. I cant achieve anything with only few hours a week in osrs, so i just log in to chat in the ge, or just watch osrs twitch streams.
I also wasted a lot of time on rs when I was 12 back in the mid-2000's. It's like wow I am never getting that time back, could have spent it doing more things. Now, I'm an adult with a lot less free time than as a kid.

I got 99 FM as a kid as my first 99. Tbh, I just felt proud. It was one of my first times committing to a long-term goal and following through, practicing sticking with something I'd committed to even when it got boring, instead of just getting yanked around by whatever activity seemed stimulating at the moment. It also inspired my two closest friends to work on a 99 (fletching and cooking.) Ultimately "useless", but no more useless than time spent on any other game, and this one helped practice commitment.
Something we look back on fondly.

@traildawg nothing matters 100% and I'm actually pretty nihilistic myself so your comment intrigued me, but emotions do still get in the way sometimes and it's hard to live in the moment and just enjoy the human experience because feeling frightened or having anxiety every once inawhile is still a part of the meaningless journey were all on.
I can sit tapping away at a keyboard and mouse or controller or mobile phone, playing self-contained video games with NPC characters where my activities are tracked by corporations, or I can do the same thing with thousands of other players, or I can write comments on CZcams reacting to videos of said games, and theoretically, I can even have a job consisting of doing menial tasks, or tapping away at a keyboard like I do with video games. It's all chipping away at or building a mountain.

It was finally the day, my childhood dream of getting a 99 was becoming a reality. It was the only thing I had ever lusted over as a kid. At age 28 I finally get to experience the feeling of the achievement and the celebratory spam messages around me. ☺ It was my time. i went to the GE and asked for a bowstring... everyone roasted me for begging and when someone finally gave me one I made a shortbow and hit 99 fletching... no one cared 🤣

I got 99 runecrafting in oldschool back in 2014/2015. Insane mind numbing grind at 24k xp/hr. This was basically my response haha, I quit within a few days and sold all the GP for a new graphics card. What a waste of time that was.

That's just one....my friend got me hooked in 5th grade. I spent years and years in that game and qualify fornthe 20 year cape if there is one. maxed out with a few 200m achievements. At the end, before I quit I remember standing at the grand exchange wondering what was the point. Had all the raid gear, I played osrs including the forced upgrade to EOC. Went through it all from introducing ancients and barrows. To the fight kiln and everything in between. The game wasn't the same as when I was a kid where tons of resources points were filled with people starting random conversations or the thrill of you couldn't just look up guides or watch CZcams for the best exp rates. You had to stand out at falador selling stuff to hopefully afford that coveted dragon chain body. It's a soulless game now with everyone rushing through content like theatre of blood and no talking while doing activities. Glad I put it down cause that's exactly how I felt...wasted time and life and not a damn thing to show for it besides pixles on a screen.
I wish I didn't play this game for 15 years. It has unironically destroyed my life. This is the most hard hitting video for me. I'm now 35 with no wife or kids or gf ever or friends ever.
You've got to take breaks man. Stop playing for a year and come back to it when there's new content.

Inferno cape was a colossal feat that I had accomplished (300m setup) and it felt so good in those 3 or so minutes that felt like hours and I had a massive mood boost for a whole week or more. Failing 1-2 hour attempts is just so fucking brutal. During that time you maintain your resources and play extremely well. It’s extremely exhausting, one mistake which could take place in one tick or 0.6 of a second could set you back two hours. Anyways got 2 zuk attempts before the final third. It was worth the months it had been lingering on my mind for to get that cape.
I don't know who needs to hear this, but time you enjoyed wasting, is not wasted time.
