    The Cleveland Cavaliers, when you think of the Cavaliers you think of one man and one man only, Lebron James. Lebron James is the Cleveland Cavaliers, I know they were good at their time in the 90s with Mark Price and Brad Daughtery, but for a good majority of my audience, you think of Lebron. But after Lebron James left the Cavs for the second time they were left with a burning ship of bad contracts, veterans, and a bleak future. But the Cavaliers were able to make one of the fastest rebuilds after a Superstar left their team. Drafting people like Collin Sexton, Darius Garland, Evan Mobley, trading for pieces for Ricky Rubio, Lauri Markkanen, Jarrett Allen, and Caris Lavert. And finally trading for Donovan Mitchell this recent Sumner. Lets review How the Cleveland Cavaliers Made a Championship Teams in 5 Years

    In fairness to the Cavs, they needed all the luck they could get bc with LeBron walking in free agency, they didn't get a massive return the way other teams have when they moved their respective star players. What makes the Cavs rebuild so impressive is how they really had to do it all from scratch

      also the league drastically changed in player management from Lebron's first stint in Cleveland. Players gained far more control in decisions regarding where and when then get traded. Teams now cannot really afford to ignore trade requests unless they want to blackball themselves in the free agency market. A player like Donavan Mitchell wouldn't be traded until he was basically a rental player due to impending free agency back then.

  • @MatthewMcMillian
    @MatthewMcMillian Před rokem +1

    If you knew anything at all about basketball you would know the Cavs are far from a Championship team. They are too imature to start with. Garland is the worst defensive player on the team not just because of his size but because he often takes plays on defense off, simply getting out of the way of his man, not switching when a switch is called for and is constantly selling his teammates out to dry on the defensive end from putting forth no effort at all. Garland had showed so much potential as a true point guard who could set up and run an offense but after last season when Sexton got hurt and the Cavs were needing someone to pick up the scoring slack, Bickerstaff who is a horrible coach at offensive strategy, encouraged Garland to shoot and shoot and shoot instead of running the offense. What we seen as the Cavs fell down in the standings and ended up in the play in tourny was that instead of playing team ball and running the offense, Garland forgot what was and wasnt a good shot and began forcing tons of horrible shots and contested 3's that were low percentage. Garland became what Sexton had been and has continued that this year. It is no secret that the Cavs best stretch this year so far was a 8 game winning streak right after Garland got hurt during the first game of the year. The Cavs without Garland seen their defensive rating go through the roof while Garland was out mainly because they didnt have a player that was refusing to guard anyone with Garland out. Also the offense actually thrived with solid ball movement and Mitchell a much superior player to Garland was more than able to play his game with Garland not hogging the ball and dribbling the shot clock down constantly pretending he was James Harden in his prime. Garland has been mentioned several times to the local media by Bickerstaff as being a player who doesnt want to listen to anything. garland thinks after making the all- star team that he is now so great that he doesnt have to listen to coaches or play team ball. Its all about him and him getting his points even if it comes on horrible efficency in many games and also at the expense of the rest of the team. Mitchell is clearky the superstar now of the Cavs. Mitchell has been trying to not take over the offense as much as he did in Utah and tried to not step on Garland's toes but we have lost a couple games this year that was close games due to Garland refusing to run the offense and work for a good shot and instead dribbling out the shot clock, ignoring an open Mitchell and forcing a contested 3 on many occasions. Bickerstaff knows how to get the most out of players who play good defense which is why guys like Okoro and Lamar Stevens have been shut down stoppers when on the court when the Cavs have needed them against more physical teams. Okoro is bashed for not scoring more but this is a team that if your not Garland or Mitchell then you will not get many shots unless you are getting rebounds like Allen and Mobley or catching lob passes like Mobley and Allen. Mobley would have a much larger offensive role on a team with a true pass first point guard. The only offensive play Bickerstaff knows is the pick and roll because its the oldest play in the history of the game. While Bickerstaff is a great defensive coach, he is often out coached by other more offensive minded coaches or head coaches who are good strategist on both ends. Bickerstaff was known as a good coach for a rebuilding team as he was in Memphis and Houston but he was canned in both places when the team was needing a coach who could lead them into the playoffs and be a winner. Bickerstaff is a likable coach to players mainly because he never says anything to them or really gets on them when they dont play as a team. But that is why you see the Cavs having games where they totally stop playing and get blown out by a short handed Milwaukee in the second half. Lavert is a player who is a problem. He has the talent to be a very big contributor on both ends and has a game now and then where he shows it. But he also is just as likely to not show up at all and look like a guy who should have his picture posted on a milk carton because he is missing in action. I mean the guy has games where he seems like he has no idea how to even play basketball. As if he never seen a game in his life much less played and then turns around and has a great game. This happens all the time and he is a total Jeckyl and Hyde player and cant be trusted by a true contender. Okoro has shown he can hit the open corner 3 when he does attempt them on a regular basis but he doesnt shoot many and mainly scores off steals on the fast break or slashing to the basket and getting passes. Okoro and Osman are the two best Cavs players outside of Mitchell at moving without the basketball. Players like Wade and Love tend to be happy to be stationary players that never move on offense to try and get open or get easy baskets. The main problem is good teams with good coaches have learned all they have to do is defend the pick and roll and the Cavs offense with Garland goes in the toilet because that is the only play Bickerstaff knows and the only play Garland knows how to run. Once teams adjust to prevent the penetration and lobs off the pick and roll then you see the Cavs reduced to Garland doing nothing but going one on one and either committing insane amounts of turnovers or forcing low percentage shots. Mitchell is the only player on the roster who should be going one on one against his man on a regular basis because he has the strength to finish when he drives to the basket. He doesnt create as many turnovers as Garland because Mitchell isnt trying to look good first and win second. Mitchell doesnt attempt no look passes or behind the back circus passes. Garland however attempts at least 2 to 3 of these a game and yes when they connect they look good but all too often they result in turnovers and Garland ends up looking like the early 2000s Jason Williams with the Sacremento Kings. Flashy yes but a winner....not close. The Cavs have no idea how to play as a team outside of brief stretches. The reason they cant win games without a healthy Allen and Mobley together in the paint is because Garland is constantly letting his man walk by him to the basket and without Allen to go with Mobley teams simply eat the Cavs up in the paint knowing that if they drive that Garland will more times than not just side step and let them go by. It will take a new coach to turn the Cavs from Pretenders to Contenders, if it doesnt happen by next year then expect Mitchell to walk after his contract ends because he will be in the same situation he was in Utah and will see a better chance at a title by leaving. Garland needs to step up be a true point guard and give all out effort on defense to off set his size, in order to be the true leader he likes to think of himself as. Mitchell is being asked to carry too much burden and to pick up the slack from Garland far too often which is why. than anyone in the league so far this season even counting a game he missed. Bickerstaff says he is sick of having to get on the Cavs for the same things game in and game out and they are not listening. That is a sign of a coach who has now lost touch with his big ego inflated young players, who cant understand why they are expected to hustle all the time now that they are a contender because that is what all the media says they are. Love is the only veteran they truly have that knows what it really takes to win a title because he has one. But Love is now due to injuries over the years and age....nothing more than a spot up 3 point shooter and still a solid defensive rebounder. Otherwise he cant do much to be a leader for the young babies. What they truly need to become a Championship team is for Garland to go back to being a true pass first point guard. Bickerstaff needs to allow Mitchell to be the main star and they need to have a game that mixes it up on offense with inside out play with Mobley and Allen when they get mismatches to keep defenses honest and open things up more for Mitchell and yes Garland to thrive even more, instead of the offense standing around like a bunch of nots on a log doing nothing while Garland runs down shot clock after shot clock only to heave a contested 3 pointer that he has little chance to make. The cavs offense so far has ran best with Garland not playing or off the floor period and everyone moving without the ball and getting wide open 3 pointers or open shots in the land off teams double teaming Mitchell. Garland has a lot to learn if the Cavs become anything besides pretenders while he is their point guard and Bickerstaff could be on the hot seat at seasons end if they dont get Garlands head straight.
