Wouldn't have a car without matrix anymore tbh. Have them on my Merc coupe and they're fantastic, even better than the camera picks up. It's almost like driving in daytime
Been running a Tesla P85 since 2015. 125,000 uk miles later matrix headlights are the main reason I would change the car. Yours is the best demonstration Ive ever seen. Clearly (pun intended) more of an improvement to safety in preventing accidents and fatigue than many many other more expensive options. Elon we need matrix lights
I've no idea how they can't implement it in the next revision for Europe. Hence the hold off maybe? Who knows. I don't really know if they can implement it on the model 3 and y's with the matrix headlights, I feel like it needs a decent IR camera to differentiate targets and map a beam appropriately.
@@davidlewis4399 The new lights ensure they do not shine at on coming traffic, they do not blind. I have personal experience of driving with Audi Q5 behind me and approaching me. These lights only shine where needed they are what lights should have been from day 1 much like cars should have been EVs from day 1, just a better solution.
It’s the fact you don’t have to move the stalk which from thinking you need to move the stalk to doing so is a bloody long time when compared to crashing or not. Split seconds count and these lights show how slow our bodies really are!
I would retest the Tesla M3/Y auto lights Richard since the latest updates. In my tested on roads like you've demonstrated, they were turning off faster than what the Porsche was. My only criticism with them would be for motorway driving, they dont seem to turn off if the cars are a large distance away.

Got Matrix lights on my Corsa E Elite Nav EV, been excellent throughout the past 2.5 yrs owned the car ( especially in wintermonths ). If I had an option on another car, I would have them again.
This is a brilliant demonstration of the benefits of smart and matrix headlights. My wife's Volvo has automatic full beams and cornering LED headlights and they are so much clearer that my old, fixed halogen bulbs
I have Dynamic Matrix LED PDLS+ on my Taycan, and they are great from my point of view. However, when I enable them I get far more cars flashing me as if I've left my full-beams on, I would guesstimate around 1 in 15 cars. Most of the time, I just keep them on manual to avoid this. The trust just isn't quite there yet, imho. For context, I drive a lot on dark country back roads, similar to the ones in this video.
I have the same system on my BMW, and from my experience it depends a lot on the type of roads. When there are a lot of hills then yes this system can blind the incoming traffic, also I assume when the roads are curvy and narrow also can lead to that.
Goodness knows how slow the Tesla lights are because the dip on the 1st Taycan were sometimes a bit slow. I was always taught to flick back to dipped before the oncoming car came into focus and these lights wait a bit! But then I guess we've all become accustomed to people leaving their full beams on till the last second. I absolutely loved the matrix headlights though and are obviously the way of the future! Richard described the right side as a shadow but it does appear to be a a solid block of dark highlighted around the car, amazing! One test Richard could run is the view from the aspect of a pedestrian maybe? I was temporarily blinded by a car that was using the 'old' tech of lighting up its left hand fog light as it turned left - no AI or anything deciding if it was safe to do so, just automatically turning it on to highlight the bend - blinding me walking towards it! Nice to know the matrix are options on some of the lower VAG cars as well - they should be on all cars from now on! Great video.

Had matrix headlights on my Audi A4 and when I changed to a Jaguar XE the matrix headlight option was a must! Great technology and in nearly 3 years of use with them have never had an oncoming driver flash me. My wife tells me that when we do change the car again it must have matrix headlights!! A great real world video demonstration of how they work though. Thanks.
Very interesting and informative video. Quality of headlights is something I look for in a car, so seeing this in action is very clear to see. Agree this safety system should be standard in lower priced cars too.
The light beam is rather narrow. The turning lights make up for this partly, but actually I would prefer a wider pattern over turning lights. Good to see these light tests - there was a lot of traffic for testing the matrix stuff - maybe try later in the night for an undisturbed view of the actual pattern.
Interesting because it seems very similar to the matirx system in my Skoda Octavia but Skoda also cuts out the road signs and lowers the brightness on them so they won't blind you when coming closer...
Great demo, recently the auto headlights on the Tesla have been just as good as the Porsches are here, maybe even a little faster to change between high and low. They really need to get their act together and get the matrix headlights to do more than just project a tesla logo...

Had a Mach E Premium on extended test drive with these lights, absolutely amazing. I was quite sad and actually had to take some mates out for a drive to show how good it is. Unfortunately my company have decided that we are all having Teslas, so I have a Model Y LR on order.
The ID4 with IQ lights does what the blue Taycan does and to see the sweeping curtain of light opening up is amazing. This is one of the reasons I ditched Tesla, they promise much but never deliver. My 2021 LR 3 had matrix lights but they didn’t do anything and all three Teslas I owned had a dreadful late to operate full beam which was never fixed ( along with the wipers!). I loved the silly stuff but the important stuff we were promised never materialised. Yes the ID 4 has crap software but it has fabulous lights and a better FSD than Teslas have. Safety before fun….how German is that!
Very impressive, Audi & Porsche always had very advanced headlights! Great demonstration of the Matrix system. Maybe do a auto high beam on a variety of EVs without Matrix lights, sure the Ioniq5 would give the others a challenge!
My Porsche Cayenne has them. Great. Rarely get flashed by other drivers. Great safety feature and would now always choose a car with them. A previous car had them and I did get flashed a few times! Porsche you can see working. Switch them off and what a difference.
Matrix lights are also really useful on dual carriageways (especially unlit ones). The ability to light the road with full beams, even with other cars around, makes motorway speed night driving so much safer. In my Audi, they also activate on lit motorways: presumably to light up the more distant cats eyes.
any chance you can do that again but with the cameras in an oncoming car, to see the difference from between the 2 sysytems if you were travelling towards them? does that make sense? does in my head, haha
Nice demonstration! One thing. You write/say "Full LED matrix system which Porsche Call PDLS+" which I'm not sure is 100% correct? (at least for Norway). PDLS+ is LED lights Plus (LED lights including dynamic lightning/corningering). Matrix is Matrix, that's the third headlight option one can choose for several of the models Porsche offers. The Matrix option is called "LED-Matrix Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS Plus)" by Porsche.
I hadn’t driven in mainland Europe for about 4 years until last summer and we did a lot of driving at night. I kept getting blinded by what I initially assumed were badly adjusted headlights on bangers, but realised after a while, it was high end, brand new cars which had overly bright headlights. I think a lot of these would have had ‘intelligent’ matrix-style lights as they tend to be standard spec in some parts of Europe, but I don’t actually think they are very good at preventing full-beam glare for oncoming traffic - at least, not as good as taking control yourself well in advance when you see something off in the distance. My neighbour has this in his German car (I won’t name the brand) and he said he does get flashed a fair bit when he relies on the intelligent matrix thing.
I had auto matrix led lights on my Volvo V60, aamazing technology but I did find the active high beam distracting as the beam moved around blanking our cars etc. The headlights with cornering were more than enough. Never got flashed though so it must work!
I have matrix lights in my Audi. I found it took a couple of months to stop looking at the dancing light pattern and instead focus on the brightly lit road ahead.
More content please, cover new softer suspension in more detail, maybe some more advanced aftermarket suspensions for M3 n Y. Also keep us informed on current prices on all EVs, since big drop in used and new, might open eyes of new EV buyers. Such great deals on Tesla new and used. my VW Passat from 2019 already had matrix headlights with same functionality as the Porsche. It's a heaven! Really way more secure because you can see very well and don't blind other cars. My Tesla from 2022 is just basic (it only has LED's, no matrix... But that doesn't matter since Tesla is not using Matrix functionality on their Matrix lights, except for the stupid show..)
Once you have owned matrix you would never go back. They are literally magic and one option you should/must option. Porsche have reportedly made then even better for next year….
I had a similar technology on my BMW (and even did a similar thing on an m240i with Xenon headlights where is stayed on full beam except you see the bulb move as it boxes out cars on the right then moves back). Cannot understand how my 21 matrix LED model 3 isn't on for Europe yet projects rather word TESLA on a wall for the light show using LED. Such a shame as I don't think the current basic stock full beam assist on the Model 3 is a patch on the BM version from my experience, specifically on Autopilot where speed is now more limited too after Christmas update. Having to manually realign the Teala after every monthly over the air update (as I love on a hill, doesn't need on flat if updated). Odd technology implementation or lack of....
Two issues with the Tesla lights. Firstly I have had two Teslas a model 3 and a model Y and both on collection did not have the dipped beams correctly set up for UK roads and were either too high or too low and would be potentially dazzling to other road users and if not corrected MOT failures. I would suggest that a lot of people with Teslas are just accepting the beam pattern as normal and not getting them checked hence the likelyhood of potentially bering dazzled by them more often than not. Tesla should act on this to ensure all cars are correctly aligned before being given to customers. The second point and I have mentioned this before is Im not convinced there is much desire by Tesla to activate any matrix functions given that all US cars for example of model 3 and Y do not have matrix headlights fitted at all and are the same as fitted to early Model 3 cars here ie straightforward LED lights. Obviously I hope they do add some functionality but it doesn't seem to be an area they are greatly interested in. Time will tell perhaps.
Great lights when you drive a Porsche but not so great when you’re coming from the opposite direction with an old banger 😂 I have PDLS+ on my Cayenne and I do sometimes feel bad for other drivers on the front of me because they’re so bright and end up dazzling them. Wonder if the the reason that blue car stopped mid junction was being dazzled by the Taycan, it obviously detects cars coming on and being followed as you demonstrated in the video. Is it using their light patterns to do that, so a side on car would be harder for it to spot. The Taycan didn’t look like it blocked the blue car’s passenger compartment out until it was

I’ve got a Taycan with LED PDLS+ and you haven’t mentioned that it’s slow to work as you drive along and oncoming drivers flash more often than you wold expect, the lights are so bright. To be honest, the first are more than adequate and if I get another Taycan I won’t bother with PDLS+
These lights seem like a fantastic technology. Especially the DMLEDs. However, there is the one inherent problem in that the right side will wear out twice as fast as the left (or vice versa). Hopefully, being LED they will still last the life of the car.
Wouuld you say the Matrix have brighter beams than the normal or just the adaptive function. Also since the matrix doesnt curve does this make a huge difference? I feel like the matrix have a wider beam to compensate for this
Why is there such a long delay in automatic switching from low to high beam on the white Taycan with non-dynamic headlights after an oncoming vehicle has passed or a preceding vehicle is no longer in view. My U.S. market Cayenne has the matrix headlight option but operate as traditional low and high beams due to U.S. regulations not allowing adaptive headlights. My U.S. market Cayenne has a similar excruciatingly long delay before the matrix high beam switches on. The blue Taycan with matrix headlights in this video also has what seems like a long delay before the matrix high beam becomes effective. The automatic high beam on our Toyota responds nearly instantly when switching between low and high beams. What's going on here? Do the Porsche systems have slower processors or are they programmed to "think" about whether they really, really need to take action? I find this excessive delay to be both irritating and unsafe and makes me want to manually control my Cayenne's switch between low and high beams.
To address my own question ... after I made the above comment, I had my U.S. market Cayenne's matrix headlights re-coded to be adaptive as they are in Europe. There is no longer the bothersome delay in switching between low and high beams since the high beams are essentially now on at least partially all the time at speeds over about 19 mph as long as there are no overhead street lights. In other words, the headlights no longer operate as traditional separate low and high beams. Oncoming vehicles are now tracked and "shadowed" as they move towards me as shown in this video. In addition, the low beam pattern was unexpectedly changed for the better by the re-coding. The re-coding also enabled the sign glare reduction feature and the encounter light feature although I have not yet experienced the 3-flash highlighting of pedestrians on or near the road.
Quite hard to film these things Richard ! But that was utterly superb! I hope Tesla see it ! (Elon would be furious if he understood how far behind Tesla are on headlight design 😂)
Max, Elon will see this as another money spinner, similar to full autonomy driving, if you want the software switched on it will cost $$$'s. The next thing I can see with tesla is you will have pay a yearly subscription for OTA now that he is the second richest man on the planet (depending on what you read and see on TV).

Wow. They turn corners, like 4 other manufacturers have had for the last 25 years and Citroen offered in the 60s. Oh they also have auto hi/low beam which has been available for over 60 years from every manufacturer. Every amazing safety PDLS+ feature is disabled for USA market.
Slightly worrying,they have this life saving tech but don’t fit it unless you pay extra. Do they also have levels of how the air bag will protect you? Broken nose standard brushing only silver package and not injury gold package for £4k more. Love the way they put a price on life.
Tesla headlights probably won’t do this as they need a flat canvas for fsd cameras. Imagine processing images where someone keeps changing the lighting. Could have it if you are driving but it might impede the always on safety of the cameras.
great video. it's a sign how far behind tesla is in this space. interesting to see a lot of the tesla comments relate to speed on on/off in high beams in the most basic sense. cars are way beyond that now. in my MY the high beam assist is slow and unreliable - better on some roads than other but not all, and only effective in near perfect conditions. shame on tesla to fall this far behind.
I do enjoy clever tech done well. But it’s Porsche after all and a £100k Car so it should be good. One of these things you won’t really understand or appreciate until you live with it and the penny drops when you drive something else without it and think what’s wrong.
So, I have a 2017 Ford's Shi*Max with the Titanium leather pack which included LED headlights! I think they are almost as good as your full Posh Porsche system as I was properly impressed with them and how they block out incoming traffic. If only the engineers for those headlights had also designed the rest of the car, it would be epic!!! Shame they didn't!!

I don’t think they have the hardware for swivelling but certainly most of the active matrix functions should be able to be implemented over the air as they continue to [hopefully] improve Tesla Visio
The first Taycan seemed slow at dipping its beams, and there are safety concerns about LED headlights from some motoring organisations. Whether they are just badly adjusted or it is a design fault, they are horrible when they light up the inside of your car especially when bouncing back off the side mirrors. Tesla too busy with fsd to worry about decent lighting, which is a shame, but guess you have to try and put something out for all those who have paid for fsd.
Of course Tesla's lights don't do anything because it's illegal in the USA. On the downside of LEDs, both my VW ID3 lights have huge condensation in them, which doesn't get evaporated because LEDs produce virtually no heat. Not good for an almost 22 month old car.
Sorry to tell you but when your lights don't dim until the oncoming car is in sight you have already ruined his night vision. If you dare try looking at an electric arc welder for a second and tell me what you can see. You should dip your lights when you are aware a car is coming not when he has appeared. And as for your lights remaining on full beam beside the car you are following, if he has is door mirrors are adusted correctly your full beam is reflected into his face. Plus if he is on old style bulbs it creates a curtain of light so bright that his own headlights are futile. Great for your safety but dangerous for everyone you encounter whether coming towards you or simply travelling in front. Even if you are in the cab of a lorry.
My MY had both its head lights replaced this week … I was told that they are the same as are fitted to the MYP … matrix … but (as you suggested Richard ) I’ll be honest, they disappoint ! Bright enough on full-beam, but too slow to dip when opposing traffic is evident and also slight “bands” or “layers” of bright/dark light on dipped beam … Come on Tesla .. it’s just not good enough. Every word Richard says in his video is accurate and true!
Tesla do a great job of making people believe that they are at the cutting edge of everything technology wise, but the reality is in areas like this they are weaker than cars that are older and much cheaper. I have a Model 3 P and it's shocking how low rent the lights are when you consider the price point. I don't think Tesla will be able to rest on its laurels for too much longer, it's staggering that matrix-capable lights have been fitted to Model 3s since Q1 2021 and they have done *nothing* with them since (I don't count a gimmick Light Show as meaningful functionality)
Teslas headlights tech is awful, never seen auto dimming which are worse! Can’t help but think they have tried to develop a system which is so vastly inferior to a specialist manufacturer. Similar how they have done with self parking.
I can tell that if some new car is blinding you, it's probably a Tesla. What's wrong with them? 🙈 It doesn't happen with other brands of cars, at least that often!

I'm not so impressed by Porsche, low resolution matrix headlights (maybe because taycan is getting old), and it's not even dimming on road side signs, having them with full high beam is counterproductive if you get blinded.
So as the owner of a rubbish car these headlights are too bright for us poor peasants. basically get blinded by everyone in expensive cars especially MPV's coming towards us. nearly been in a hedge a few time and if you are right up my exhaust pipe cant see anything.

I’ve got them on my Focus ST and they’re very good, didn’t think I needed them but they’ve made driving at night so much easier and safer.

My Porsche Cayenne has them. Great. Rarely get flashed by other drivers. Great safety feature and would now always choose a car with them. A previous car had them and I did get flashed a few times! Porsche you can see working. Switch them off and what a difference.
My VW ID3 Tour has full matrix headlights. Game changer in my opinion!
Matrix lights are also really useful on dual carriageways (especially unlit ones). The ability to light the road with full beams, even with other cars around, makes motorway speed night driving so much safer. In my Audi, they also activate on lit motorways: presumably to light up the more distant cats eyes.

One thing. You write/say "Full LED matrix system which Porsche Call PDLS+" which I'm not sure is 100% correct? (at least for Norway). PDLS+ is LED lights Plus (LED lights including dynamic lightning/corningering). Matrix is Matrix, that's the third headlight option one can choose for several of the models Porsche offers. The Matrix option is called "LED-Matrix Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS Plus)" by Porsche.
I hadn’t driven in mainland Europe for about 4 years until last summer and we did a lot of driving at night. I kept getting blinded by what I initially assumed were badly adjusted headlights on bangers, but realised after a while, it was high end, brand new cars which had overly bright headlights. I think a lot of these would have had ‘intelligent’ matrix-style lights as they tend to be standard spec in some parts of Europe, but I don’t actually think they are very good at preventing full-beam glare for oncoming traffic - at least, not as good as taking control yourself well in advance when you see something off in the distance. My neighbour has this in his German car (I won’t name the brand) and he said he does get flashed a fair bit when he relies on the intelligent matrix thing.

I had auto matrix led lights on my Volvo V60, aamazing technology but I did find the active high beam distracting as the beam moved around blanking our cars etc. The headlights with cornering were more than enough. Never got flashed though so it must work!
I have matrix lights in my Audi. I found it took a couple of months to stop looking at the dancing light pattern and instead focus on the brightly lit road ahead.

The high beam patern appears to be narrowish for non matrix headlights. Bright but very concentrated to the central section.

my VW Passat from 2019 already had matrix headlights with same functionality as the Porsche. It's a heaven! Really way more secure because you can see very well and don't blind other cars.
My Tesla from 2022 is just basic (it only has LED's, no matrix... But that doesn't matter since Tesla is not using Matrix functionality on their Matrix lights, except for the stupid show..)
You have to try the matrix light on the Enyaq. It's amazing and works better than the Taycan that you have it there (surprisingly).
Once you have owned matrix you would never go back. They are literally magic and one option you should/must option. Porsche have reportedly made then even better for next year….
I had a similar technology on my BMW (and even did a similar thing on an m240i with Xenon headlights where is stayed on full beam except you see the bulb move as it boxes out cars on the right then moves back). Cannot understand how my 21 matrix LED model 3 isn't on for Europe yet projects rather word TESLA on a wall for the light show using LED. Such a shame as I don't think the current basic stock full beam assist on the Model 3 is a patch on the BM version from my experience, specifically on Autopilot where speed is now more limited too after Christmas update. Having to manually realign the Teala after every monthly over the air update (as I love on a hill, doesn't need on flat if updated). Odd technology implementation or lack of....

Two issues with the Tesla lights. Firstly I have had two Teslas a model 3 and a model Y and both on collection did not have the dipped beams correctly set up for UK roads and were either too high or too low and would be potentially dazzling to other road users and if not corrected MOT failures. I would suggest that a lot of people with Teslas are just accepting the beam pattern as normal and not getting them checked hence the likelyhood of potentially bering dazzled by them more often than not. Tesla should act on this to ensure all cars are correctly aligned before being given to customers. The second point and I have mentioned this before is Im not convinced there is much desire by Tesla to activate any matrix functions given that all US cars for example of model 3 and Y do not have matrix headlights fitted at all and are the same as fitted to early Model 3 cars here ie straightforward LED lights. Obviously I hope they do add some functionality but it doesn't seem to be an area they are greatly interested in. Time will tell perhaps.
In the US adaptive headlights were illegal until last year (2022) hence why cars didn't have them, the new rule still has to go into effect though.
Great lights when you drive a Porsche but not so great when you’re coming from the opposite direction with an old banger 😂 I have PDLS+ on my Cayenne and I do sometimes feel bad for other drivers on the front of me because they’re so bright and end up dazzling them. Good video though as always mate 👍👏
The only downside is they fog up in winter and makes the car look so cheap/poorly made 😂😂

Wonder if the the reason that blue car stopped mid junction was being dazzled by the Taycan, it obviously detects cars coming on and being followed as you demonstrated in the video. Is it using their light patterns to do that, so a side on car would be harder for it to spot. The Taycan didn’t look like it blocked the blue car’s passenger compartment out until it was

I’ve got a Taycan with LED PDLS+ and you haven’t mentioned that it’s slow to work as you drive along and oncoming drivers flash more often than you wold expect, the lights are so bright. To be honest, the first are more than adequate and if I get another Taycan I won’t bother with PDLS+
Both cars in this test have PDLS+, just one is Matrix LED and the other a basic LED.
Will cost a fortune to replace when they go wrong, but great and more over useful technology

These lights seem like a fantastic technology. Especially the DMLEDs. However, there is the one inherent problem in that the right side will wear out twice as fast as the left (or vice versa). Hopefully, being LED they will still last the life of the car.
Wouuld you say the Matrix have brighter beams than the normal or just the adaptive function. Also since the matrix doesnt curve does this make a huge difference? I feel like the matrix have a wider beam to compensate for this

Why is there such a long delay in automatic switching from low to high beam on the white Taycan with non-dynamic headlights after an oncoming vehicle has passed or a preceding vehicle is no longer in view. My U.S. market Cayenne has the matrix headlight option but operate as traditional low and high beams due to U.S. regulations not allowing adaptive headlights. My U.S. market Cayenne has a similar excruciatingly long delay before the matrix high beam switches on. The blue Taycan with matrix headlights in this video also has what seems like a long delay before the matrix high beam becomes effective. The automatic high beam on our Toyota responds nearly instantly when switching between low and high beams. What's going on here? Do the Porsche systems have slower processors or are they programmed to "think" about whether they really, really need to take action? I find this excessive delay to be both irritating and unsafe and makes me want to manually control my Cayenne's switch between low and high beams.
To address my own question ... after I made the above comment, I had my U.S. market Cayenne's matrix headlights re-coded to be adaptive as they are in Europe. There is no longer the bothersome delay in switching between low and high beams since the high beams are essentially now on at least partially all the time at speeds over about 19 mph as long as there are no overhead street lights. In other words, the headlights no longer operate as traditional separate low and high beams. Oncoming vehicles are now tracked and "shadowed" as they move towards me as shown in this video. In addition, the low beam pattern was unexpectedly changed for the better by the re-coding. The re-coding also enabled the sign glare reduction feature and the encounter light feature although I have not yet experienced the 3-flash highlighting of pedestrians on or near the road.

Max, Elon will see this as another money spinner, similar to full autonomy driving, if you want the software switched on it will cost $$$'s. The next thing I can see with tesla is you will have pay a yearly subscription for OTA now that he is the second richest man on the planet (depending on what you read and see on TV).

Wow. They turn corners, like 4 other manufacturers have had for the last 25 years and Citroen offered in the 60s. Oh they also have auto hi/low beam which has been available for over 60 years from every manufacturer. Every amazing safety PDLS+ feature is disabled for USA market.

Slightly worrying,they have this life saving tech but don’t fit it unless you pay extra. Do they also have levels of how the air bag will protect you? Broken nose standard brushing only silver package and not injury gold package for £4k more. Love the way they put a price on life.

Tesla headlights probably won’t do this as they need a flat canvas for fsd cameras. Imagine processing images where someone keeps changing the lighting.
Could have it if you are driving but it might impede the always on safety of the cameras.
great video. it's a sign how far behind tesla is in this space. interesting to see a lot of the tesla comments relate to speed on on/off in high beams in the most basic sense. cars are way beyond that now. in my MY the high beam assist is slow and unreliable - better on some roads than other but not all, and only effective in near perfect conditions. shame on tesla to fall this far behind.
I do enjoy clever tech done well. But it’s Porsche after all and a £100k Car so it should be good. One of these things you won’t really understand or appreciate until you live with it and the penny drops when you drive something else without it and think what’s wrong.
So, I have a 2017 Ford's Shi*Max with the Titanium leather pack which included LED headlights!
I think they are almost as good as your full Posh Porsche system as I was properly impressed with them and how they block out incoming traffic.
If only the engineers for those headlights had also designed the rest of the car, it would be epic!!! Shame they didn't!!

Can Tesla achieve the same performance with their current matrix lights? Is it simply limited by software or do you think it’s a hardware limitation too?
I don’t think they have the hardware for swivelling but certainly most of the active matrix functions should be able to be implemented over the air as they continue to [hopefully] improve Tesla Visio

The first Taycan seemed slow at dipping its beams, and there are safety concerns about LED headlights from some motoring organisations. Whether they are just badly adjusted or it is a design fault, they are horrible when they light up the inside of your car especially when bouncing back off the side mirrors. Tesla too busy with fsd to worry about decent lighting, which is a shame, but guess you have to try and put something out for all those who have paid for fsd.

Of course Tesla's lights don't do anything because it's illegal in the USA. On the downside of LEDs, both my VW ID3 lights have huge condensation in them, which doesn't get evaporated because LEDs produce virtually no heat. Not good for an almost 22 month old car.
Sorry to tell you but when your lights don't dim until the oncoming car is in sight you have already ruined his night vision. If you dare try looking at an electric arc welder for a second and tell me what you can see. You should dip your lights when you are aware a car is coming not when he has appeared.
And as for your lights remaining on full beam beside the car you are following, if he has is door mirrors are adusted correctly your full beam is reflected into his face. Plus if he is on old style bulbs it creates a curtain of light so bright that his own headlights are futile.
Great for your safety but dangerous for everyone you encounter whether coming towards you or simply travelling in front.

My MY had both its head lights replaced this week … I was told that they are the same as are fitted to the MYP … matrix … but (as you suggested Richard ) I’ll be honest, they disappoint !
Bright enough on full-beam, but too slow to dip when opposing traffic is evident and also slight “bands” or “layers” of bright/dark light on dipped beam … Come on Tesla .. it’s just not good enough.

Tesla do a great job of making people believe that they are at the cutting edge of everything technology wise, but the reality is in areas like this they are weaker than cars that are older and much cheaper. I have a Model 3 P and it's shocking how low rent the lights are when you consider the price point. I don't think Tesla will be able to rest on its laurels for too much longer, it's staggering that matrix-capable lights have been fitted to Model 3s since Q1 2021 and they have done *nothing* with them since (I don't count a gimmick Light Show as meaningful functionality)
Teslas headlights tech is awful, never seen auto dimming which are worse! Can’t help but think they have tried to develop a system which is so vastly inferior to a specialist manufacturer. Similar how they have done with self parking.
I can tell that if some new car is blinding you, it's probably a Tesla. What's wrong with them? 🙈 It doesn't happen with other brands of cars, at least that often!

I'm not so impressed by Porsche, low resolution matrix headlights (maybe because taycan is getting old),
and it's not even dimming on road side signs, having them with full high beam is counterproductive if you get blinded.
So as the owner of a rubbish car these headlights are too bright for us poor peasants. basically get blinded by everyone in expensive cars especially MPV's coming towards us. nearly been in a hedge a few time and if you are right up my exhaust pipe cant see anything.
