Survivorman | Grenada Island | Les Stroud

- Les journeys to an active volcano chain found in the Grenadine Islands deep in the heart of the Caribbean Sea. Stranding himself on an uninhabited island called Frigate, Les is left to survive on his own. Discovered by Columbus in 1498, the island has remained untouched by civilization for centuries largely due to the fierce waves that pummel its craggy shores. Scouring the shoreline for edible marine life, Les must work to secure freshwater, build shelter and make fire. While being stranded on a Caribbean island may sound inviting, it is in reality incredibly difficult. Les is forced to eat prickly pear cactus, hunt for bird eggs and even contemplates trapping one of the thousands of turtles that occupy the island. When it comes to survival islands, the island of Frigate offers what all islands do: isolation...of your body, your mind and your spirit. Time away can be a good thing, but this is no vacation.

I just want to say I’m really happy and grateful that he’s uploaded all his content to CZcams for us to enjoy. I used to watch him all the time when he aired on tv when I was younger. I also love his new content as well that’s he’s been putting out, especially the directors cuts and review of his old episodes. 🥰

You can use a thorn for a hook(fish guts, gills👌🏼) , you know this(survival) 🤷♂️..
Think you're pretty good at surviving huh? Bet you can't survive isolated in Detroit on minimum wage!!!!!
I have watched this guy for like twenty years, I always liked him more than others cause he didn’t over dramatize the situation like some do, bear grylls be drinking piss ten minutes after he gets dropped off
Come on dude he used a rattlesnake turned inside out as a cock sock then peed in it and saved it for later, thats not 10 minutes in, but it is probably the nastiest thing I've seen on tv😆
Im 26 now and been watching him since a young kid not even teenager
more like ten minutes after he gets dropped off back at his house
Well, Bear never hopped off the boat or jumped out of the plane or helicopter, looked around for a few minutes and found a working lighter, a water bottle and fishing line with a hook 😂 The man is so ”lucky” I was stunned he didn’t pull up a side of chips and a Coke to go with his decent sized fish 😂
@@kayamerrick3907 And just happened to find more fishing line, hooks, and sinkers on the other side of the island after his other fishing supplies were lost! How convenient! I mean, he's entertaining to watch, but the people that pretend like he doesn't have stuff planted for him to "find" on these survival excursions are very naive.
I never would have thought that I’d be reliving my childhood at 22 by watching more Survivorman episodes. Reminds me of sitting in my living room with my family after supper and before bed, watching Les rough it out in the wild. Good times, Survivorman brought us all together.
yup same here 1999

not american never seen the show before but it looks fake, conveniently not eat the turtle incase it pisses people off, also how hard is it to put the whole turtle on the fire and cook it in its shell like bear grylls
@@GawrGurasBathTubPizza Bear Grylls does that for the views and the shock value, which obviously works on people like you. Les is being a decent human being and trying to be as considerate to his environment as possible while still surviving it. He didn’t need the turtle so he didn’t kill it.
@@GawrGurasBathTubPizza ya and why show a turtle dying for 30 minutes on a fucking fire....just to show it for views...makes no sense dude...he proved his point...and i obviously see that ur not american
Amazing how Les started this entire genre of content authentically and had stayed authentic. His work led to shows like Man vs wild and everything else where they would script the entire show and plant props for them to use. The fake content that arose is now what the genre is known for and people that don’t know the origins of Survivorman now call it fake. He’s the original, he’s the one who DOESNT fake the show. He’s even fought with executives who tried to make him lie in his shows to keep it authentic. It’s great he’s on CZcams but the young idiots that yell about him finding the lighter being fake just shows how ignorant some of the audience is. Maybe they haven’t been outside or to an island where trash is common place. How about we address the massive pollution problem instead of falsely accusing Les?
Fr
He pioneered vlogging 10 years before it became a thing, even jump editing the audio
yea all those shows are fake. real shxt equals real chances of dying and thats no bueno for tv..
@@kool4209 Les Stroud really did risk his life on these. He didn't have the crew and safety nets other productions do. For example, in the Amazon episode, he really was chased to the village by a jaguar, and he cut his episode short and left his camera gear and RAN to the village because he was in real danger. He talked about it recently in an interview on his channel.
@@kool4209he had an emergency crew within a days travel of him but generally speaking, his shows were legitimate, at least to the point that he could be put in serious danger at a moments notice. If they were faked, they would’ve been exposed at this point, much like man vs wild was after the first season aired.
When I was a teen watching his shows for the first time, I honestly thought it was lame that he never really caught or killed anything like Bear did on his show. Now that I'm an adult, I realize how foolish I was. I genuinely have a ton of respect for this guy. He loves and respects nature.
Unlike so many other tv survivalists, he has a real strength of mind you can just see. Even in the most dire situations or not having eaten for x number of days, he always stayed calm and never started killing or destroying needlessly. Now THAT I respect.
I'm an adult and I still think its lame her didn't eat one turtle
it is whack he doesnt eat the animals
@@Gamerkat10 pretty lame he dont got nothing Cody And Joe from dual survival is way better than this fake guy
He's also in such a limited situation just by himself, typically with few if any good tools or weapons for hunting and he also doesn't want to do anything too exhausting if he doesn't have to which would cause him to burn too many calories or grow dehydrated. He has to be smart. Big game is pretty much always out of the picture. But as long as nature provides, he usually manages to nab plenty of smaller animals to keep him going as well as various edible plants if he can find them. He doesn't shy away from trying to kill birds from time to time if he can but he didn't go after killing the chick's because wouldn't have been much meat for the trouble anyway and I think he left the turtles alone just because of how gruesome to have to hack into the poor guy while they're still alive for 30 minutes or more in front of a live camera. This guy is not about sensationalism nor brutality, just pure raw realistic survival.
I don't know why but I find it funny he is constantly threatening the turtles
Tomorrow, if you're around, turtle soup buddy! 😆
He’s picking up the turtles just to tell them they might be eaten tomorrow 🤣
Maybe he discovered that scared turtles taste slightly better due to the adrenaline? ;-)
Tortoises. Not sure why he calls them turtles.
@@Plaguez21 All tortoises are turtles, but not all turtles are tortoises.
Les Stroud is the OG badass . No camera crews. Just think, every crazy shot he gets, that's him setting up the camera, walking back into position to do the activity, then going back to gather the camera gear. Absolutely mental.
You gotta check out Field Days
the episodes in the snow, he mustve walked miles back and forth
That's only if u beleive him. 😂
@@deoryad1608 Field Days is great, but you gotta check Andy's Fishing and Wild Cook, dude has been putting out insane footage and fishing/survival knowledge for over 8 years, and youtube algorithm is still not giving him the subs and views that he deserves.
@Expanse No, he doesnt.
I love how honest and open this man is. He readily admits mistakes, for example with the poor start of the fire.
what about all the other mistakes he made in the same 5 minute period? those weren't whelks, they were top snails. the fish wasn't a perch, it was a wrasse. you get MORE nutrients from cooked food than raw, as you body is better able to digest it. and on and on and on...
@@thomasneal9291 he can only admit mistakes he knows about. So honest & ignorant apparently
@@thomasneal9291 watch it
@@thomasneal9291 your body can digest more nutrients out of what is left yes, but cooking does destroy alot of the inherent nutrients that are there so it evens out alot more than you would think. For example the biggest thing that fish provide, Omega 3 Fatty acids, some tests show nearly 80% of it gets destroyed in the cooking process, and much of the same results for other essential vitamins. If you want to survive off of just meat for example without supplements in the wild youll need to eat raw organs from time to time out of necessity for the things that dont make it through cooking. Also, the exact species of what he ate isnt really important to anything at all tbh, though a correction after the fact in editing couldve been used ig it changes pretty much nothing.
Whenever Les catches something, especially fish, I get this feeling... it's a mixture of hope, pride, relief, joy... you know what I mean, I'm sure 😊

Sad thing is, they are a dime a dozen on shorelines like this. So much trash on the shores, it's depressing every time I see it. A rare silver lining if you ever find yourself in a survival situation near a shore I suppose tho.

@@Mark147KTM you don’t know Les stroud. He doesn’t cheat. Ever.
Edited for spelling.
@@Mark147KTM Having grown up on the coast, I found hundreds of lighters. Some of them working, but never did I find one that rusty which still had a working spring under the flint - that rusts out first. The ferrocerium also corrodes and puffs up much faster than the flame shroud can rust. I am highly sceptical that a lighter that rusty was a working one. Maybe he found two and showed the rusty one for effect. Maybe he was able to fit the spring & flint from a newer lighter with no gas into a rusted one with gas (very tricky job, but I've done it before)
Hey Mr. Stroud, you are still the only man who has shown what actual survival looks like. For what little it may be worth, you have my endearing respect.
what kind of turtle is that i wonder if its an endangered species being a remote island
I don’t know if you will ever see this, but I used to watch you when I was little with my family. I’m 24 now and found you randomly on my CZcams feed. I truly thankful for you as a person. Thanks for the memories and life saving footage.
I remember the first time I saw survivorman. It was back in 05' I think and I was fascinated by the show. Funny thing is I've watched his shows a multiple of times now, and it never gets old. The re-watch-ability of his shows are impressive, I can sit through any episode at any time, no matter how many times I've seen it. Thanks Les for being truly a one of a kind survivor and uploading these for future generations to enjoy.
So true about the re-watch value
same for me.
Totally agree!! Hes fun for the whole family! For generations to come!
Same here friend. Been watchin him since he first aired and it's true, very rewatchable. But by rewatching his shows its actually gettin the skills and knowledge he shared back in your brain to keep you up on it. It's good stuff.
My thoughts exactly! I like his holistic and calm approach to survival. None of this nonsense about somehow beating nature into submission, but rather a calm, well-thought through approach to living alongside nature
I remember being a little kid wanting to be just like les now I'm adult and do camping as much as a full time worker can and watching these really bring me back to the young me. Thank you Les for making survivor man.
Good comments encouraging to hear good people...
SAME!
i no
Agreed. We still hike 10 days a year and camp every chance we can; anywhere from 8-15 weekends a year. It IS hard when both parents work full time and their schedules don’t always line up…
Lol, I imagine your “camping” is hanging out at your uncles RV in a site with toilets, shower, water, and firewood all within a 10 minute walk.
the humility he shows while also clearly being an expert is truly admirable.
The moment you consider yourself a master is the moment you can no longer become one
His knowledge of things is impressive.
Thank you for making so many appreciate the great outdoors Les. You're a blessing. I'm 27 now and have been watching you since I was a kid. Now I work as a park ranger.
Hey, how do you become a ranger? Are there particular educational requirements?
Gotta admire the fact that he knows what is important for entertainment and what isn't. No need to kill a chick or hack into a turtle for a show. He knows he can do it, and he tells you how to do it, but he could survive without food all 5 days so there's no reason to kill like that. But if it were a real survival situation where you don't know you'll get picked up in 5 days... Those turtles and chicks are fair game 😬
absolutely. he did that whole series. he does his research also..very knowledgeable about all the places hes been..even beyond the show, what I know of him; hes disciplined
Had that chick been bigger he would have killed it. Also, lets not forget the hundreds of fish, crabs and even unborn baby birds (eggs) that he killed through out the shows run. Killing any living thing is still killing. Just because hes not killing the cute ones don't make it any less of a living thing that's being killed strictly for TV entertainment.
@@PApro Unless you're vegan, what are you even arguing against? People eat eggs, meat, fish, all the time. In fact, catching and killing your own food is more humane than buying packed meat at a grocery store. What you catch/hunt actually lived, unlike a meat farm cow or chicken. So, you missed the point of my comment. If someone were actually surviving in the situation of this episode, they would have eaten the chick and hacked open the tortoises. You don't turn down food in a survival situation. He didn't because he knows it's unnecessary. I would bet that he eats less meat than if he were at home though. Unless you consider snail lives the same as cow or pig lives... Then he definitely kills more living things
@@torfinnjohnsrud793 Im not arguing anything so you can relax yourself there just a little. Im pointing out how asinine it is to say hes so great for not killing chicks or turtles yet ignoring the fact that he kills so many other animals as if they too aren't living breathing things. You yourself just said people eat meat all the time and it's no big deal so why did you comment in the first place saying hes so great for not? Your conflicting yourself here. Further more, him killing any animal is unnecessary seeing as how hes not truly out there "surviving". He isn't lost or stranded, he went out there because he wanted too. There is no need for any of it what so ever. He has access and the ability to have and take anything he so desires. To say that he didn't kill the chick because it was not a necessity but justifying the killing of any other animal is just as foolish because that too was not needed at the end of the day. Clearly you like many others put a higher value on the lives of the "cute" animals and don't care about the ugly ones is all im saying. I mean, again, you praised him for not killing the chick but what about that egg that was partially developed? In a few weeks time it would have hatched and become one of those same chicks. So how is that different other than the chick was cute and the fetus wasn't?
For sure. Life doesn't exist without consuming other life, that's just how "everything" works. But he does it with so much respect. Have always appreciated that.
I admire his respect for the wildlife, the preservation of it, and the fact that he isn't killing animals just to prove in front of a camera he can. We know he can, but it's not unnecessary and always for the pragmatism of the situation.
Congrats on ripping off the top comment. How pathetic.
@@rhyllevenzdelino617 Your mom was just ok imo.
I don't think you watched the same video.. I mean ffs he can have snails and adult full sized birds but he'd rather steal the eggs and think about eating tiny baby birds with no meat anyway, CRUEL!
@@dannygreen5477 ... are you sure youre not the one who didnt watch??? He literally had a whole section where he talked about why going after baby birds would never be worth it in his current situation. Crazy how much people like you draw such arbitrary boundaries too, youre ok with eating the birds parents but not the baby even though theyd just die anyway for no reason if he caught the adults(not to even mention the fact that adults are impossible to catch by hand in the first place)? You think burning snails alive is fine just because they dont have a face but you draw the line at eating eggs that arent even conscious animals yet? Really weird and specific things youre condemning. Calm down and enjoy the show or dont watch in the first place since youre so detached from nature in your apartment😂

"If you can't survive the psychology and the emotions, it doesn't matter how many fish you catch or how many fires you get going. You'll still perish."
I can imagine the sincerity in that statement. You can be the most skilled, crafty and even lethal survivalist in the world. But if you can't defeat the psychological enemies in your head that come from being in a situation like this, nothing physical matters. Your own mind will defeat you. I was stuck in the bush for 12 days, all I was thinking is “what would les do?”. I’m a professional hunting guide from Newfoundland Canada. I guide in remote areas only accessible by float plane or helicopter. I was guiding an elderly gentlemen from Florida. We were hunting moose. He ended up falling down and breaking his leg, he was at least 260lbs so there wasn’t any chance of me carrying him out. we had enough food for one night, the rest of our provisions were at camp 10 miles away. I put a splint on his leg and made sure he was comfortable, then I lit a fire and started making a shelter with the 10x12 tarp I always carry. We ate the food I had then tried to get some sleep. The next day I took his rifle and went looking for food, never had any luck. Just picked about a gallon of blue berries. And collected water from a spring I knew that was in the area. On the 4th day I shot a young black bear, he weighed around 120lbs. About 70ish lbs of meat. We didn’t get hungry after that. On the 10th day we were supposed to be picked up at a lake where we set up base camp, I knew when we didn’t show up they would look for us. On the 12th day I heard a helicopter and loaded the fire up with green spruce branches and moss. The helicopter spotted us and we were saved. That was the only unsuccessful hunt I’ve had in 15 years of guiding but it was the biggest tip I got, he gave me a 5000$ tip. He said “your an incredible guide, you went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable. I’ll temper this trip until the day I die”. That was in 2010. To this day he still sends me 1000$ every Christmas.

If you were truly trying to survive with no way of knowing when you would be found, then that turtle should have been killed straight up. Les is so skilled he’s able to find and catch wild lighters in there natural habitat
And a machete that can float?
@@imalimabeanyay I didnt see that but I guess
Bear finds a lighter within a few minutes of being on an island I'll be like "That's courtesy of the shows producer". Les finds a lighter within a few minutes of being on an island and I'm like "That's courtesy of St Christopher"
I learned alot about how to survive! Since I been watching this guy I have come across hard times in my path . Homelessness. And just being out in the bush an making shelter! Definitely can be one of reasons why I'm alive today at age 30!
The master since 20 years ago of survival shows, greets from Belgium!
As if inspiring a generation to get back to nature wasn't enough, he's going for 2!
Well said
We saw this last week
The OG survival guy.
At least 2
Who is?
Amazing to be able to relive such an important part of my childhood. Survivorman time was sacred back home. Thank you.
This is my favorite episode of Survivorman. Something very beautiful about that island. This episode was just satisfying
You sir have single handedly gotten me through this pandemic thus far. I thank you for the absolute amazing content you release.
Im so glad i came across this channel. Ill never forget watching survivorman while growing up. So much better than all the other survival shows
I like how he just lobs the turtles around lol they are probably having an interesting experience during Les’s time on the island.
Omg used to watch you on the in middle school & highschool I’m 27 now! Sooo glad you have a CZcams now & I finally found it! I would search for your CZcams from time to time but never had it till recently I think.
Awesome les! Hope all is going well with you! 💯💜🙏 amazing to see how much you have done & do! 💯🔥💪
I absolutely love that Les found a lighter. To me it makes this situation more real. You never know what opportunities lay at your feet. Be aware of all 3 zones. Thanks Les!
And while the idea of the lighter being planted crossed my mind, ..... naw. Not Les!
Right, whenever I need a lighter and don't have one I can manage to find one that works somewhere
@@philduoos2961 could just have been by the producers without telling him
He probably could have found a couple dozen more if he scoured the coast more. Tho luck was with him for his first one to not be cracked and empty. It's madness how much crap is on the shores, even more so today.
@@kettlebells-ez9xi well they would have had to have planted it a few weeks im advance for the rust to accumulate on the rock the way it did.... Seems like a lot of effort for a planted lighter.
Who else cracked up when that pod thing hit him during the night?
I think it was a mouse
Almost as funny as him finding a working lighter on a small island in the middle of the ocean
I kept replaying it, couldn’t stop laughing
Bro i died laughing. Went looking for this comment right after lol
@@patrciaclemons8183 Completely believable, I work the Beaches with my Metal Detector and have found working lighters under the Sand that have been submerged.
I love how he is always finding excuses to not kill the cute animals
Right on Les your the man!!😊
The one true survivor man. The godfather of survival entertainment and education, the hardest shot is knowing when not to take it.
I had to open a tin of fish to set myself into the mood, while watching Les cooking his fish, it's the best I can do.
hell yea watching survivorman b4 sleep while eating herring
I've probably rewatched every episode 5 times. Love this series.
Survivorman and Planet Earth are my two favorite shows to fall asleep to.
You are my hero man. I've been watching survivorman for like twenty years. I still remember seeing episodes on TV when I was a kid and thinking how cool you are. Not nearly the survivor you are, but you've taught me so much over the years.
I hope this means Les is returning with new content. I’ve met him several times, I want to say 15 years ago (or something like that) when I was a producer/cameraman at NatGeo. Les is a super nice guy and does survival video unlike any other. When you’re out there truly alone without a cameraman or crew, it’s the real deal.
Just one more Season Mr. Stroud. I'm begging you. Your Survivorman show is awesome. I enjoyed watching you more than Bear Grylls.
I've just discovered these series. I didn't realise how old they were, but what we see is still very relevant today - perhaps even more so. We should NEVER take for granted our easy access to electricity, shelter, warmth, water and food. All it takes is a natural disaster or even a blackout to show us how dependant we have become on technology. I also love how authentic it is and especially your attitude to potential food sources. As others have said you don't have this "macho" attitude, which as a female would make me feel these situations don't apply to me. You are unapologetic at eating animals for survival but only do it when you have to and weigh your decisions each time, to ensure sustainability, energy efficiency and the most humane way to kill. I also love how you focus on the importance of protecting your mental health. I am keeping a record of all your survival tips and learning so much. Thank you.
I am so glad to see someone as experienced as Les react the same way I would if something were to land on me in the dark while dozing off 38:21
That clip was gold then it just cuts out I was dying😂
Watched you for years as a 13 year old kid Les, 26 now and amazed that you’re still keeping up with this wonderful content for the world. Thank you, you’re awesome!
Why is it that Les is like one of the only people in the world I don't mind hearing eat? Thanks for uploading these vids Les!!
Les is the OG vlogger. He even jump edited his dialogue, way before anyone else did
So Happy the turtle got to live. Live a long life little buddy
"This egg smells terrible, better smell it 4 more times to make sure."
He was honoring the age-old tradition of the courtesy sniff. Nobody else there to do it, so he completed one courtesy sniff for each of his closest friends.
He was hoping one of this sniffs would smell better than the last so he could justify eating it
bear grylls would have cringed then ate it
That is like me smelling my own farts :/
@@SirPraiseSun which would prove Grylls not after survival, dysentery without a solid water source is a death sentence.
Thank you for everything, you are very kind and intelligent also relate to you. If it wasn't for you I don't think I would of made it during difficult and enduring times.
You have inspired us all Les. I can't wait for the next time I get to take a dump in real actual nature. It makes me feel so alive
Everyone should spend 4 days solo in their local nature.
You learn so much about your self
People dont even know... solitude in the wild is up there with a crazy trip on drugs.
There are times I prefer it lol.
@@jermhanson13 yea like all the time lol people suck
@@thathaslage why not both

I know been watching this guy since i was 6 years old now im 14
I thought it was funny that he randomly found a lighter
Thank you tor making these available.
I really appreciate that he doesn’t kill things needlessly and has a good heart
An island called frigate surrounded by frigate birds also known by sailors and fisherman as the masters of the sea is always a sign of good luck and he finds a lighter right away
Watching Les catch a fish while hungry is more exciting than watching kids open christmas presents
