What annoys me is how Morticia reacts to Wednesday "not being dark enough". The Addams parents would NEVER have reacted like that. Sure maybe they would have been confused, shocked, or hell even disapproving of it, but they would never have discouraged something that makes their child happy
Not quite. If you watch the 1964 television series, there have been a few instances when the kids or family acted "normal," and the rest tried their best to correct the behavior. A particular episode is "Morticia and the Psychiatrist," when they were at their wits end when Pugsley wanted to be a proper boy scout and began acting like an average kid, and they even had a psychiatrist come over to try and "fix" the boy. The episode ends with Pugsley being reverted to his old ways by the psychiatrist.

They are just humans who like the gothic side of life more and still managed to raise a family and be true to themselves without adhering to the usual norms. But what annoyed me was that foam applicator tor the ash eyeshadow. Morticia would never! She is a lady of class and would use a proper brush.
Well.... it's a _bit_ grey area, isn't it? A sentient, disembodied hand; implications of actual magic, withcraft and the survival of major injuries; books that contain hurricanes; grotesques and freaks/highly unusual people as relatives; a sentient gate that one can "romp" with. They're not just humans who decided they like the goth lifestyle, there's a whole vein of the supernatural running through the canon. Still though, this film is trash.
Wait if they were just goth what about the hand
@@maroberson74 Lurch asked for a hand in doing his chores. Apparently they took it literally.
@@maroberson74 Well, I would assume that the grandmother does witchcraft and that's the reason, but still it makes no sense
What makes me the angriest is how they went about with Gomez’s design. Gomez is a man of undeniable confidence, suave, passion and certainly eccentric. They did him wrong.
Yes! 👏👏👏 I was already mad 10 minutes in for what they did to Gomez!
You have obviously never seen the original comics by Charles Addams.
Yet he was designed after the original comics?
Randa Panda The original comics made him fat
And no offense and all but he looked ugly as shit in this film and tbh he’s always been played by handsome actors
"Wednesday's at that very special age when a girl has only one thing on her mind."
"Boys?"
"Homicide."
Thank you for that og addams reference
Vice versa for Pugsley, except his would be "School Shootings."
What Is This?!
That’s a joke I can imagine being in Addams family, but it would also be the joke that would not age well.
Sho Ken “OG” seems to be used very loosely here . . .
Tyler Findlay
It’s dialogue in Addams Family Values 1993. I LIVED on that movie growing up, I fucking love it. I still put it on when I’m feeling down or have no idea what to watch (I have a few of those types of movies, as most of us do). In case you didn’t know. I think the line still aged well because it fits the theme and tone of the movie it’s in and was a great comedic scene. For example some of the earlier lines in the same scene were:
Amanda: “Why are you dressed like you’re going to a funeral? Why are you dressed like somebody just died?”
Wednesday: “Wait.”
It’s dark yes, but the movie is a actually a bit of a black comedy with quite a lot of gallows humour, really focusing on how “creepy and kooky” they are from the average person... but then the villain is exactly like them and the “normal” people are weird arseholes themselves. It’s clever. I actually prefer the sequel - this movie - than the first one, which I think was made in 1991. If you haven’t seen it I suggest giving it a go.
Gomez in the 90s: suave, passionate, and handsome
Morticia in the 90s: clever, sophisticated and beautiful
Together: a united couple with a clear love for each other and mutual respect for each others opinions and feelings
Gomez now: Hornball lovechild of Burton's Penguin and the staypuff marshmallow man
Morticia now: Slenderman with tits
Together: the overdone and annoyingly common clueless husband + smart wife trope that SHOULD have died with the 90s but somehow keeps being resurrected.
Side note: is it just me or would the lorax fit just a little too well in the "happy town" scenes?
This comment is underrated

You do know that's how he was drawn up in the original comics, right? All of the characters are styled to mirror that exact comic series
ischwhit but my guy in the original comic didn’t look greasy XD
@@ischwhit6747 I LOVE how they went with the original comic designs, but I dont think they were done very well. They feel too plasticky imo, I think they couldve been translated well in 2d imo, or more refined 3d
I’m going to start using that as an insult 😂
I have two sins you could of added.
1: When Gomez enters the coffee shop everybody looks at him funny even though he dosen't look that strange. This might be because he isn't wearing matching clothes, but why does that matter?
2: When the citizens atack the addamses home the addams family get really scared even though most of them have been shown to basically be invincible.
Duolingo Bird Official I think they were scared cuz he had a moving hand crawling on him lol
3. Why the daughter of the villain has the same pictures of Justin Bieber
Well you answered your own first sin. If someone isn’t matching people are gonna look at them funny.
And for your second sin, have you ever seen a monster movie where the monster isn’t afraid of a mob with pitchforks?

Current 5-10 year olds did not. The final episode of courage was back in 2002. The crap they got away with on Courage would have NEVER been greenlit for today's kid audience (I'm saying that as someone who loves the show)
Don't forget Ren and Stimpy lol
Really? Was it that bad?

The movie lacks the typical Addams Family charm. It just one more generic animated movie with a popular name slapped on it.
Not sure how they messed this up so badly was it time, recourse or the lack of talent. One thing I like is the art style i enjoyed it but that's about it.

@@roxycauldwell544 He didn't. I believe Studio Laika did Coraline.
I think OP is referring to the animation style. Like how Coraline is made with Stop-Motion. Please correct me if I'm wrong
And as he stated before any sins given 0:19
The character design makes me actually sick
It's based off on the source comic
@@nikofarrell7207 Being based off the source comic doesn't make it good....The source comic was black and white lined single panels in newspapers. They could have referenced the original designs and still made them look decent. Gomez in particular is ghastly looking, and not in a 'Addams Family is strange' kind of ghastly. He looks more like the 'nerdy character who has a crush on the Heroine and gets denied so he helps the villain out of a misguided urge to separate the main male character and get her for himself' cliche than he does the 'Strange character who sees and enjoys the world differently, yet still has his own style and strange charisma that bonds the lead couple together' character.
I really don't like how incompetent and idiotic Gomez is in this version. Considering he was known as someone who constantly failed to fail, his consistent failures here are baffling.
i dont mind the family's design--just how completely and utterly it clashes with every other side character having this generic straight from despicable me character design. no solidarity. also I want to bludgeon whoever cast Wednesday and Pugsly's voices.

When you said it’s to grotesque for kids my first thought was “you severely underestimate how much kids like grotesque things”
Most kids (especially teens) love blood and gore
Yes but most adults try their best to not show them the scenes they love. Isn’t it a parent’s job to deprive a child of what they love? I mean normal parents, I’m sure the addams family’s children are well catered to, but then again, it’s intended as a subversion.
My point is, this is a movie parents wouldn’t want their children to see, yet adults would find it too childish.
Yeah, there's a reason for why Spongebob, Teen Titans Go and many other popular children's show like adding unnecessary grotesque/weird looking/gross stuff
Squatting laws typically allow someone to claim ownership of a property just by living there long enough. Usually 10 years.
Yeah but it’s a government owned building (an asylum). I don’t know if squatting law applies here, plus adverse possession in New Jersey takes 30 years. So the Addams family is SOL and JWF
Huh really? I thought it was three-five years depending on if they had a criminal record (which would make it longer) I'm actually going to look it up cause its pretty interesting.
Edit- your actually right! Ten years, in the UK anyway, wow I actually didn't know that. I wonder where I got the three-five years from
Nick of Time you can adversely possess government owned property in some cases and the only person who could bring an action of ejectment is the true owner, so as long as they stayed in continuous possession for 17 more years they’d be fine
Not to mention Gomez Addams studies law and would know this, I don't think CinemaSins ever watched the original show

I grew up with the movies and didn't watch the 60's show until recently, and while I do prefer the show to the movies, goddamn the movies have some of the best one-liners. The victim one is a favorite as well as when the family is meeting Debbie and she calls Gomez a lady killer and he enthusiastically shouts, "Acquitted!"
I litterly live in New Jersey and when they showed that sign I was like, "No wonder NJ has a bad reputation."

One thing you missed when you pointed out the ingredients: Bitter-almond paste is just another wording for cyanide.
The 90's version *implied* there was some crazy shit going on off camera. Wednesday put Pugsly into an electric chair and we see her face after she pulls the lever, but it was implied that no one was in any danger. So the cartoon doubling down on that makes sense, because with a cartoon you can do crazy shit.
i was thinking the same thing,.. they come from a log line of people who do crazy stuff,as evidence by their backyard graveyard where they explained the who's who in the family..in part 1..Plus..most of what jeremy says is him implying things.. he's just saying stuff... How do you know they don't know of the web,and even if they don't that's what makes the Pun...,you don't see any chords, show that lamp could also be Candles ,the reason we know they have electricity is because of the electric chair or doorbell....
Some crazy shit was implied even back in the original 60's version, like there was a running gag that Fester was electrocuted so often that he could make a light bulb light up by simply sticking it in his mouth.
Also didn't they have some special potion or something to make anyone who marries into the family immortal like them?
@@wejwyj2230 If that's a thing it's too bad it was left out of the 90s movies. Like in Values, she could have been marrying him cause he's rich, and then she finds out about the potion...

@@MrAshCarr I believe in one of the movies a couple became part of the family and was given the same immortality as them so they don't die from all the crazy shit

The familial relationships change between versions. In the 60s show Fester is Gomez' dad, in the 90s movie he's Gomez' brother. Same thing with the ages of the two kids.
@@BadWolf739 I watched the 60s show, and I don't recall Fester ever being Gomez's father. They never specified his relation, but he was always "Uncle" to everyone.
All this movie did was make me want to re-watch the 90's movies all over again for the 50th time and still laugh and simp over Anjelica Huston's Morticia. Seriously, she delivers some of the lines SO damn well. "Fester. As if we'd ran out" - gets me everytime.
I genuinely believe this movies purpose was to introduce people like me who had never watched anything Addams into the Addams family. I'd have never gotten into the older movies or series without it, and I still enjoy it when I need to watch something vibey that I don't need to mentally engage in.
I miss Raul Julia as Gomez...

The animation looks really dated for some reason, like the movie was made before 2010.
Looks more like something you'd see in a Telltale game
It's based on the original comic from the new yorker

Also, if the family hasn’t reunited in so many years, why is there a painting of Wednesday in her Mazurka celebration hat? Was it just them?
Gomez Addams is independently wealthy. His family owns several businesses around the world. Gomez himself owns a swamp for "scenic value", a gator farm, a buzzard farm, a salt mine, a tombstone factory, a uranium mine, and many others.
Source material doesn't matter. The movie has to establish the plot on its own.
Not to mention he plays the stock market regularly and has NEVER lost. Every company he invests in ends up making HUGE profits.
Even if they did explain his wealth, Jeremy would still sin for exposition or narration. I legit don’t know how Jeremy wants information given to him in movies and shows. He sins when he doesn’t get information and he also sins when he does get said information. Exposition is needed in every movie to show you the world of the movie you’re in and for you to understand that world and the characters and story of that certain world or universe.

@@lewissimeon4261 that's why I try not to question his methods. After all by his own admission he's an asshole who likes to sin movies. Let him keep doin what he loves.
4:42 From what I could tell from the Addams family lore,Gomez was said to be a crooked lawyer and thus got most of the family's wealth from the failed cases,apparently..
The line "I think I can see my house from here! Oh, that's a women's prison." Cracks me up every time even though it's so stupid
Wednesday: "You're talking to the queen of shockness."
Cinemasins "Miley Cyrus?"
😂😂🤣🤣
"Way too grotesque for kids..." Way too grotesque for kids' parents maybe, but the little monsters themselves wouldn't bat an eye at any of this crap.
Hallelujah was written by Leonard Cohen not Jeff Buckley, so it was a cover with Jeff Buckley too. I am sinning the sinner
i'm 99% sure that was actually the joke
Ya beat me to it.
Same. Buckley’s is my favorite, but certainly not the original. Though this does reinforce the point he was making.
*le gasp*
Cohen’s version is so much better than Buckley’s. It’s insanely stupid to say Buckley’s is better.
5:43 Funny thing.
I actually DO rinse plates before putting them in the dishwasher, I always thought it would guarantee to clean everything in case the washer would miss any spots.
I do it to make sure no food chunks get stuck in the dishwashers filter. I really hate reaching in there.
Ugh, Even watching this is frustrating as hell. The animation and the actor's voice overs are cringey as hell. I freaking love the older movies. I haven't watched much of the show that came before it but what I have seen was also pretty good. I absolutely hate this movie. It takes all the great things about the previous Adams family interpretations and kind of just craps on it.
OFC ITS NOT THE SAME ITS MADE FOR KIDSSS
Him: Everything wrong with the Addams family
Me: EVERYTHING
Is the lion wrong to because thats the only thing i like about this movie :/
I love how Morticia went red instead of white, since she is already like a freaking vampire
The only good thing about this movie is that Wednesday’s pigtails are nooses,,, that’s iconic tbh
REQUEST: Everything Wrong with Sausage Party (2016) in Food and God Minutes
listen, i dont love the movie, but i really can appreciate that the designs are taken from the original comics, and i can also appreciate the jokes that came from the first tv show
i really did think they cared about the movie, but they just didnt know what to do with the characters
well, at least it couldve been worse
It's a shame the design is the only thing taken from the original characters. I have a collection of Charles Addams comics and they nail macabre humor masterfully, this movie just seems like Despicable Me with an Addams skin over it.
@@aozgolo Fester was adopted into the Addams family and was originally a triplet along with Gru and Dru. I rest my case
8:49 - Morticia reveals her lineage to be in line with the family in Resident Evil 7.

2:28 I actually saw this movie in New Jersey and when that came up everyone in the theater chuckled

HAAHAA! 😂😂
Yes, Hamilton reference!
To think we almost had a Tim Burton stop motion animation version of this
Mr burton has lost its charm, but it would make something miles better than this crap :(
@@Crownslayer013 Yeah, it would have been so much better, instead we get this BS and it's getting a sequel! Faaaack!
“Rinse off a dish before putting it in a dishwasher”?
You do know the garbage on the dish has to go somewhere in the dishwasher right? I’m not cleaning that every week. So everyone better put clean plate in my dishwasher.
I agree. A lot of food does get stuck on plates, so rinsing them off can be beneficial. Sometimes we soak them so the gunk doesn't stick.
5:20 actually, it may be a mistake or exaggeration from Gomez since there are paintings of Morticia, Wensday and even Fingers with the masurka hat. In other words, even the women of the family do the masurka ritual, perhaps differently, but they do!
Actually, 103 sins. How the hell could they carry the damn boulders to the garden, and goddamn load them?! DUDE, 104!
1991 Addams Family is still the best!
I agree.
Ill stand my ground on that the 1964 Addams family is the the best one. every movie and series after just feels like the kid who tries way to hard to be different.
Their version of Wednesday Addams was ICONIC
Yup. They juuust nailed it. This one tries just a little too hard to answer questions no one asked, and in so doing overwrites some of the already established backstory. The whole problem is, the Addams are best left unspoken. Like the question of their mortality(or lack thereof)
The casting is absolutely perfect in the 1991 and 1993 Addams Family films, especially Wednesday and Gomez. It would've been great to have a third film with that cast, circa 1995 ... but obviously Raul Julia died in 1994 (RIP)
10:01 well according to Squatters law, if you live in an abandoned house for a period of time you become the legal owner granted the previous owner of the property does not evict your before you reach the allotted time and you do not hide the fact you are living there
The Carrie joke at 9:35 is also funny because Clöe grace Morentz plays Wednesday and Carrie in one of the adaptations
Damn, like seriously...Using that " The Fog" reference at the end, took dark turn....even for this movie.
And this is why i love you guys
yeah
How is this comment from 11 hours ago? Stop time travelling, its cheating!
I think you meant "The Mist" but yeah wow that got really dark there jeez XD
@@DJtheBlack-RibbonedRose i finally remember the title, but was lazy to change it
kudos to that visual pun.
Pulling The Mist out at the end there. God damn. Wasn't ready for seeing that scene again
Man I hated that movie....
I thumbed ups this movie ONLY for that scene.
It got me too
Same bro
@@jbiehlable The movie overall was pretty average, and I wish it had toned back the 'monsters' part, seeing as it was more interesting in the first act when they had only seen shapes in the fog and people dying. They didn't know what was actually out there, if anything at all. That made the tension much stronger, and since the eventual reveal was a bit lackluster, it made the monsters less terrifying. If they had managed a creature iconic and unique as the original Xenomorph from Alien was, then it might have been a home run.
The lackluster horror aspects aside, the final scene was very nearly a home run. I would have liked for the movie to convey a bit more passage of time before the Army arrived, because the coincidental timing was a bit on the nose. If they were shooting and battling the creatures, there's no way they didn't hear the gunfire from miles away in that tiny, silent car. I understand the intent was that he was minutes away from a happy ending and the choice he thought he had to make was for naught, but it still felt a bit forced with the timing. However I still loved the tension of the scene and the cutaway to the gunshots and the agonized scream.
What got me about this film is that it has Puglsley as being younger than Wednesday, but in every other portrayal it’s the other way around.
Not in the original live action films from the 90s. In those films, they also portrayed Pugsley as the youngest sibling and Wednesday as the eldest. Even the Broadway musical did the sibling age reversal, but having Wednesday much older, around her teens. You should do more research on the different Adams Family media.
Lets be honest, the 1991 version is like the older sibling and this is like the:"im gonna do better" younger sibling.
Turns out the younger sibling ended up worse
This version of The Addams Family is based more on the comic strip.
Glad someone else knew that 😏
Now i know why i like the movies and old school cartoons.
The sins are funny but also annoying but the the comments are also annoying cause NOBODY HAS SEEMED TO READ THE COMIC
Seriously ty for knowing I felt I was only one .. lol gomez has money it's just as it is he is too rich at some point in tv it is know he owns countries I mean he gives away money
@@CookiesTriedToEatMe I cant lie ive never read the comic strip ive only seen the og addams family movies and the old 90s cartoons. i dont hate the movie i just prefer the old addams family with raul julia
This movie seems to have subverted everything put forward in the old sitcom, where the family was a good family but had odd views on certain things and a certain social incompetence towards what we consider the norm. Instead, we have bizarro world rules which don't seem to be consistent and a general loathing of everything normal except when plot convenient.
(9:18) How insane for you have to be to spray paint some one else’s property?
Yeah, that was fucked up. 😂
I'm going to hurt everyone as much as this movie hurt my brain.
The movie was originally supposed to be a stopmotion and Tim Burton was going to be a co-producer or possibly a director.
I hope the original idea comes back
That makes me feel very frustrated.

0:48 extra sin: the person rising out of bed isn’t even morticia. You see on that model that the nose is an incredibly big triangle shape in the shadow, whereas morticia’s nose is rather small, so it’s not even the same rig or person. *ding*
That's her chin. She's leaning her head back
Correction: A fish out of water story would involve the character/characters be unfamiliar. The character/characters don't have to be uncomfortable. The Nightmare Before Christmas is a bit of a fish out of water story with Jack confused but happy to see and know of Christmas.
I forgot this was a thing. One sin to you for reminding me of it.
I genuinely liked this movie. I watched it with NO expectations rather than low expectations and I even laughed once or twice, like the time blood rushed to Morticia's face only for a passing bat to come by and drain her back to her usual pale complexion.
Yes, I'm part of the problem.
Im also part of the problem. When you watch a movie without setting a bar, it plays out differently.
That scene was hilarious XD
I'm happy you like it, even though it's my one of my least favorite animated of 2019. I don't think I can say worse, because Secret Life of Pets 2 exists. The bat scene was good though.
I think that the bat scene was actually very clever, definitely worth a laugh. I just wish the rest of the movie kept it up. And regardless, everyone has a few movies that are stupid but they like so enjoy away!
