This officially became one of my favourite RWBY songs, it always gives me chills whenever I listen to it.
Took me way too time to realize, the "i'm what inspired the fairy tale" and what it means, what inspired the fairy tales Ruby read as a child? The stories she grew into? Huntsman and Huntresses, so what Ruby is saying here is indirectly, just like Weiss, Blake and Yang said to the caterpiller's dopplegangers of their past selves... "I am a huntress"😠

I saw that line as saying that she's no longer just following in her mother's footsteps, and therefore not just finishing the story that her mother began, but she's now her own person inspiring her own stories. Not that I'm saying that you're wrong, because I think there are different aspects to this line, and I liked your take.

This was a perfect continuation of the Red Like Roses songs! RLR1 from the trailer was musically all about Ruby, but lyrically it’s not about her at all. It’s her connection to her mother, and then to each of her teammates. RLR2 is a literal dialogue between Ruby and Summer about the abandonment issues and pressures and ideals a child is forced to burden after losing a parent. But Guide My Way is Ruby saying that even if she’ll still look up to Summer and honor her memory, she is her OWN PERSON with her own legacy and pride. She is more than just someone else’s legacy - and she’s finding herself enough to realize that.
I literally just told myself that while this was a great song by itself, I didn't feel like it was a RLR song. However, I do like your analysis based on the lyrics! I was more coming from a music style viewpoint, but also 8ish years will cause a style gap/shift
Absolutely! I'd go as far as to say this is Ruby re-defining and re-steeleing her will; going as far as to say "I'll be what you are (were) and I'll be even more!" Not only does she plan on meeting people's expectations of her but she plans on superseding them as well!
The character songs are a great representation of the characters psyche. Ruby's being all about her mother and teammates not about her and then this. This shows her becoming Ruby Rose.
I think RLR1 is about RWBY (the team)

Love how this is basically Ruby calling up to her mother “can you hear me up there?” And saying that “I’ll be who you were and I’ll be even more!”
Casey taking over the music for the show has proven to be a welcomed change, the future of rwby music is safe in her hands!

Ruby affirmed her worth as her own person. She can still admire Summer Rose but the true honoring of her mom isnt being her copy or her echo. Its being her own burning rose.
GOD that last quiet "I'm what inspired the fairy tale" paired with remembering the animatic from RTX hits so hard!
If I had any 3D animation knowledge or video editing skill, that'd be the moment in the AMV where Qrow would see the sign and cut to Ruby's reawakening in Ever After.

The first time I heard it on the soundtrack I just said "You're damn right Ruby. You're the one who inspired this whole damn show!" Just remembering my reaction to the Red Trailer. The way she whispers it is just so good... and then the drop into our old rock vibes. So good.

A great example of a character experiencing positive growth by developing an ego, rather than getting rid of it. Her ego didn't lead her astray, it affirmed to her what she wanted, and what she found important to invest herself into... being not just as good as, but better than, her rock star mom.
After all these years, seeing a red like roses part III is crazy. Cool to see casey and Martin continuing Jeff's legacy like this. Still getting used to the new style, but it sounds amazing and I can't wait to see what else they make
This part was definitely about Jaune too 3:34.
His song is called Quiet, he reclaimed his life through Alyx's promise to fix him, and he literally IS what inspired the fairytale character "The Rusted Knight".
You can even hear a male voice distorted in the background.
Love how it sounds like a prophecy he sent through to his younger self too, warning him to stay prepared and be patient as in the end, he can reclaim his life.
Sadly, Ruby doesn't have anyone to guide her way anymore...

@@slothysoap4589reboot, at least from v4 or 5 onwards, is my 2 hopeful cents. V1-3 aren't perfect but you'd need to be the nitpickiest nitpicker to find their logic internally inconsistent. V9 tries to pretend james' death in v8 was similar to pyrrha's, when in reality the way v7 and v8 presented it it was fully avoidable and-taking extended canon into consideration-ironwood did not even earn it.

As much as I love Jeff William's stuff, having Casey and her band take over for the music was such a good idea and this proves it.
I see this song as both a turning point for Ruby, but also the turning point of Casey taking over the music.

Prior to this volume when I started it I was so obsessed with Ruby herself, and I related to her so badly.
At some point I fell into a sort of depression and lost all sort of who I was. When volume 9 came out and I saw Ruby struggling with so many things I suffer with, I began bawling. This scene and this song are giving me the strength to finally escape my hole and become stronger.
This song always brings a tear to my eye. It’s my favourite by far because of the scene it’s associated with. I hope, that like Ruby, I can be stronger and overcome my problems.
Yeah, as I've noted elsewhere, Volume 9 was based around finding yourself, the difficulty and necessity of it.
Gabriella, like Ruby, you don't have to go it alone. You got a team willing to help.
Oh yeah her arc in volume 9 hit do close to home for me too, and I behaved almost exactly like her too which is why I could tell the writers were handling this the right way. Someone like her tends to attack herself above anyone else when feeling that way and bottles it up so others don’t have to worry. Even when she snapped at everyone I knew she still wouldn’t express her pain the way she needed too or that other people were expecting her too. That’s incredibly difficult for someone like her to do all on her own.
I didn’t really pay attention to the Volume 7 and 8 soundtracks but Volume 9’s...oh baby can Casey, Martin, and everyone else involved hold their heads high. If this is the end, what a way to go out.
Now this song will live in my head rent free for at least a week.
I really like how near the beginning of the guitar solo, you can hear a part of the solo from "Inside".
the final stretch of the song when Casey uses layered voices is just sex in my ears good lord that sounds so amazing

Whenever I hear Red Like Roses music, I always get goosebumps. It takes you to places.
I had never seen RWBY before. but her fight with the cat thing, came up on my feed. Holy shittake mushrooms was that a perfect scene. I had to look for the song that played when she fought it, which brought me here. I cannot get enough of Casey L Williams voice and song from the show. I just started S1 and the opening theme for that show is one of the best i have ever seen.
It’s going to be a roller coaster of emotions for you throughout the rest of the seasons. Be prepared.

With all due respect, I disagree. (You are 100% entitled to your opinion, I want to say that right off the bat!) However, volume 9 is one of the best seasons of the entire series... Sure, it has flaws, but your comment makes it sound like it's only worth watching for the soundtrack. It sounds like you're implying that it's only worth the music. Which I strongly disagree with. So much great character growth and storytelling happened in this volume. It was straight up necessary storytelling. As well as bringing a bit of a breather to the overbearing stakes the previous few volumes brought to the table. This volume answered so many questions from early in the series. It also gave us a time skip that was absolutely needed in the context of the story to move things along at the end. All while maintaining as self-contained story that was well told and wonderfully tied into the main narrative.

I love the symboliziom of Ruby's emblem. It used to be symbolic of Summer's promise, and of her wanting to be like her mother. But now it's *her* rose, *her* promise, to be better than Summer

Idk what it is, but Casey sounding older when she sings that part from Red Like Roses Pt. I before it gets into the rest of Pt. III really shows how the show progressed from Ruby just being the young, innocent girl she was before.
Now, as much as I dislike the later volumes, the music is something I won't ever get tired of. Casey Lee Williams has such a distinct voice that's just so intertwined with the whole series.

RWBY had been a nice part of my life ever since I was 7, I can't imagine this long has already passed.
I have plenty of things to say about it, most of them originally springing from love, but not really free of sadness either.
But right now, nothing I say will have much meaning anymore, will it?
Despite still being interesting, nothing is quite the same anymore since Monty.. you know.
Despite that being a fact that people are very well aware of likely, I am still happy that RWBY wasn't abandoned, and that it ultimately continued.
It would have been so much better, it would have been LEGENDARY had he been around, but it's also a nice thing we at least got to see what the story would have turned out as originally.
This honestly just feels like a treat we simply cannot have, so I guess I will simply leave it to an alternate version of myself to potentially enjoy it.
It seems the chorus of the song goes from Ruby begging her mom to guide her way to the declaration that Ruby herself will guide her way.
The more I listen to this, the more I believe it's the Magnum Opus of RWBY songs. The way it illustrates Ruby's growth as the song itself changes, the lyrics, instrumentation- it's going to be hard to top. Casey and Martin knocked it out of the park and then some

@@slauter1939 it releases this year on september 10, it still didn't get greenlight tho, I still think it'll get one soon cause vol 9 was amazing and rwby is the only thing keeping RT alive rn, btw vol 10 has 15 episodes which kinda makes me excited cause this means there will be a lot of things going on, it's also confirmed that there will be vol 11 and vol 12 but they would be on 2025, as far as I remember vol 11 will serve 5 years after vol 10 which means ruby would be like in her 20s or 30s and a lot of things will happen.

I've been waiting for part 3 since I discovered RWBY, this was absolutely worth the wait
I dealt with a lot of people who hurt me after I failed to help them. Seeing Ruby and Jaune struggle with the same issues was cathartic. Especially when they where able to move past them. It felt like such a victory.

When it came to Casey Williams, I came to love RWBY music because of her vocals, but after listening to some of the stuff on OK Goodnight, I definetly stayed for her unique composition. Seriously this stuff gets me moving.

Yes! Been anticipating this for as long as I've been watching RWBY and it does not disappoint.
You know. When i first listened to this full track i liked it in Isolation but i was a little sad because when its a part 3 you really want it to transition nicely from part 2 into this. And while that is still true... i realize that it also shouldnt from a storytelling perspective. The whole point of this song is to capture that Ruby is finally letting go of what those two first songs made her out to be: The naive view of a "Hero" she had as a kid and personalizing that vision by attaching it to her mother.
I thought about it, and like Weiss' if you wanted to hear her story told in song you are best combining other tracks in the middle to lead up to this. For me id personally say the "Ruby Story" songs that would play well into each other would be as follows:
RLR 1, RLR Transition, RLR 2, Until The End, Inside, Trapdoor, Guide my Way (RLR 3)
