- We're in Sedona Arizona and showing you our top things to do in the area. Plus, how we spent three days eating, drinking, and exploring one of the most beautiful places since hitting the road in 2018!
This week's episode we celebrated Katelyn's birthday with a whirlwind trip to Sedona, including fantastic sunset dining and Scout's first hike (to the gorgeous overlook of Coffeepot Rock). Howard also tries fishing again after a 20 year break (in the same spot in Oak Creek Canyon!), and we take a driving tour of the major sites around the red rocks of Sedona.
RVing is more popular than ever during COVID-19, and thanks to the small size of our Winnebago Navion, we secured a last-minute spot typically reserved for vans at the centrally located Rancho Sedona RV Park. The campground was even walkable to uptown (the older section of Sedona) and we took full advantage of the location to explore on foot! Another bonus, Rancho Sedona backs onto Oak Creek and provides two access points for guests to cool off in the water. Definitely refreshing in the summer heat!
As luck would have it, we arrived on a Wednesday, which happens to be Wine Wednesdays at Sound Bites Grill. Each week from 5P-7P, the restaurant and music venue brings in a local wine shop for UNLIMITED tastings of 10 different wines including bottles of several local wineries. With live music, delicious food and unlimited wine, it was a great way to kick off the trip. There are many more food and shopping options in uptown, and we found tucked into a small plaza the yummy treat of Pussycat Gelato. Made scratch in-house, we ordered two flavors (including a Mexican themed flavor, of course, lol) and they hit the spot!
We did make reservations in advance for Katelyn's birthday dinner, and though they can't guarantee patio seating, we again got lucky and seated with a gorgeous view of sunset overlooking the red rocks at The Hudson. This is a fantastic new(ish) dining option in Sedona, and certainly lives up to the reviews and compliments. Salmon is Katelyn's favorite, and the special that night was salmon, so you can probably guess what she ordered. We tried some cocktails as well at the bar before dinner, and both the meal and drinks were excellent pairings to the stellar views.

Thanks so much for the Birthday wishes, it was a great one! We've typically try to stick to outdoor dining but that particular restaurant where we ate inside was part of the Sedona safe program, meaning they had to meet a long list of safety criteria. All staff were wearing masks and the seating was spaced appropriately. But moving forward, we've stuck to takeout and outdoor dining. Thanks so much for caring! I have loved watching your videos and so happy you are safe in the US, and exploring amazing Sedona! A few questions. When you took Scout for the hike did the other dogs stay at the RV? Outside? I know it was hot, I have always thought of a dog sitter for traveling people would be smart? I’m sure they were safe as you are responsible pet owners, I’m more curious about the logistics.

Hi Kathleen! Thank you so much, so glad you enjoyed our Sedona video! And great questions! Piper and Ella were safe and sound in the RV. Since it was hot, we were at an RV park with electric so they had AC. We also have a baby monitor to keep an eye on them and it alerts us if the temperature rises above a pre-set limit, so that if the power were to go out we can get back home quickly!
I found my cactus top at a little shop right in Sedona! And the restaurant is called the Hudson, great food and views! -Katelyn
Very informative. Scout is fitting in very well. Do the other two babies hike also? Searching for the right RV is hard work. Trying to decide between class B an class C. Love the space of class C, but the manageability of a class B. Will use for work, family/ friend time, and rest / relaxation get aways. I need to get the most bang for my money. Needs to be durable, animal friendly, and senior friendly for my family. If you guys have any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. The more RVs I look at the more difficult the decisions. I don't really think I want a slide out. Concerned about leaking, critters getting in, and mechanical failures. I will probably be the sole driver. I love the outdoors and boondocking sounds ideal along with occasional stay overs at truck stops, stor parking lots, etc. I will be on a strict budget so that I can see more and really experience the places I visit. I love to cook so a nice galley would be great. Comfortable bed twin or single is okay. Enough space to separate work space frome sleeping space is preferred. I have 2 dogs (one large and one small) and 3 cats who all get along. Thanks for any advice. I have been looking at RVs for at least 5 to 10 years if not longer. Now I'm really ready.

Why you always only take scout or Piper & Ella with you and seperate them? Didn't saw any activities with all three of them at a time. For Example the hiking trip or some other activities in mexico. Sorry for my bad English but i hope you got my point😉. Oh and befor I forget it :

We didn't take Piper & Ella on the hike because Piper was still recovering from hurting her paw the week before, so she needed to rest. You got a good dog in Scout, very well behaved because he stays right by your side. No pulling and listens very well. We put or cell phone and address on our dogs tags just incase they get away someone can give us a call to find us again.
Hi Eric! She's SO well behaved and it's amazing how good she is on the leash considering what happened the first time we tried. Newstate Nomads You can tell watching the videos she really loves her new life. I see that with our rescue dogs too. Last night I watched “Bound for Nowhere” video when they were in Sedona, but I think theirs had a longer delay and were there before masks were required.

It is beautiful, however on the weekends the traffic is horrific.
We can definitely see how the traffic would be a problem there, for sure! There were a few times it got heavy, but not too bad while we were there. Thanks for watching!
@@NewstateNomads Perhaps the virus has knocked down the traffic. I live 47 miles from there and will go there for a motorcycle ride to have coffee and take in the view. I have not been there for at least 6 months. In a normal year (no virus) the traffic will jam up going to the city in every direction for 3 miles on the weekends. During the summer it is always jammed, but much worse on the weekends.

Me being from north of Ireland(Belfast) id say go anywhere else in Ireland, there’s a lot of conflict and being under British rule, you’ll not get to see our real culture.
