Have a history teacher explain all those weird Abraham Lincoln-John F. Kennedy coincidences. Mr. Beat does.
Some supposed coincidences between Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy:
1. Both men were elected to congress in ’46 (Lincoln in 1846, Kennedy in 1946)
2. Both men were elected to the presidency in ’60 (Lincoln in 1860, Kennedy in 1960)
3. Both men were concerned with civil rights (Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, Kennedy proposed what became the Civil Rights Act)
4. Both men married in their 30s to women in their 20s
5. Both men lost a son while living in the White House
6. Both Presidents had 4 children (and both lost two before they reached their teens)
7. The doctors for Lincoln and Kennedy had the same name: Charles Taft
8. Lincoln’s private secretary was called John (John Nicolay), Kennedy’s private secretary was called Evelyn Lincoln.
9. Both men were shot on a Friday
10. Both men were shot in the head
11. Both men were shot in the presence of their wives
12. Lincoln was sitting in box number 7 of Ford’s Theatre when he was killed. Kennedy was riding in car number 7 in the cavalcade (in a Lincoln car made by the Ford Motor Company)
13. Both were assassinated by Southerners (John Wilkes Booth and Lee Harvey Oswald)
14. The law-enforcement officer who detained John Wilkes Booth was called Lafayette Baker, as was the man who detained Lee Harvey Oswald was Marrion L. Baker.
15. Both their presidential successors were named Johnson (Andrew Johnson and Lyndon B. Johnson)
16. Both men were succeeded by Southerners.
17. Both successors were born in ’08 (Andrew Johnson in 1808 and Lyndon Johnson in 1908)
18. Both assassins are known by three names (John Wilkes Booth and Lee Harvey Oswald)
19. Both assassins’ names have 15 letters
20. Booth ran from the theatre and was caught in a warehouse; Oswald ran from a warehouse and was caught in a theatre
21. Both assassins were themselves assassinated before their trials.
22. John Wilkes Booth and Lee Harvey Oswald were both originally thought to be lone-gunman but it was later discovered that they were part of a conspiracy.

For me, the freakiest presidential coincidence is the fact that Jefferson and Adams both died on July 4, 1826- the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
Not to mention his last words were "Thomas Jefferson survives."

Actually every president elected in a year ending in 0 from 1840 to 1960 died in office. (Also president Zachary Taylor, who was elected in 1848.). Ronald Reagan broke that curse by surviving being shot by John Hinckley Jr.

It’s the Tecumseh curse. He warred against William Henry Harrison in the Indian Wars in the midwest in the early 1800s. When WHH was elected president in 1840 he gave a multi-hour inaugural speech in the pouring rain without wearing a coat so he could appear “strong” and “tough.” He shortly thereafter contracted pneumonia and died a few weeks later.
Everyone mentioned the Curse of Tippecanoe, but noone said its proper name.

One you didn’t mention(which I understand you weren’t going over all of them) that I found impressive was that both their predecessors were the last ones born in the previous century. Buchanan was born in 1791, and Eisenhower was born in 1890.
Also if you add the individual numbers both 1791 and 1890 add up to 18.
1 + 7 + 9 + 1 = 18
1 + 8 + 9 + 0 = 18
I think thats just a consequence of being in the election of the 60s of your specific century. Guy who wins the 2060 election will probably be in the same boat.

The coincidence that both of their assassins were know by 3 names is true, but the Central Intelligence Agency has 25 letters and John Wilkes Booth has 15 letters.

Lincoln did not have a secretary named Kennedy but part of his SECURITY detail was a police officer named John Kennedy.
The following one I discerned by myself.
Andrew Johnson had once been a tailor, his wife had once been a schoolteacher; Lyndon Johnson had once been a schoolteacher, his wife had once been a "Taylor!'
I also think that it’s fairly obvious two people would have a lot of similarities if they ended up taking similar paths in life (like two presidents or two dictators) like of course they’re gonna be similar in some meaningful way
its also easy to find similarities when you try to look for them

AJ' was so lost in the sauce he legit thought the best plan to keep the Union together after Lincoln's passing was to amass another army and fight ANOTHER war, this time against the then French/Austrian controlled Mexico. He also put pressure in the OPPOSITE direction of civil rights issues.
Lyndon Johnson took the couple thousand advisors Kennedy sent to Vietnam and turned them into hundreds of thousands of troops, in a prolonged war that drained the US of it's resources, killed the faith of it's people in their government and then on top of that, he only pushed for civil rights when he was FORCED to do something about it.
Both were garbage, and did a real shit job of it. (imo)

Great comparisons, Mr. Beat...and I love the lighthearted glaze of humor overall...I enjoyed researching Abraham Lincoln (and some aspects of JFK) for my suspense novel, THE LINCOLN CLONE by C.C. Goodfellow. I was honored to have it under Glenn Kirschner's sacrosanct Lincoln statue during his February 4th Team Justice video.
The chances they were both killed on a Friday is actually closer to 1/49, because they each had a one in 7 chance of being killed on a Friday, but the chances they were BOTH killed on a Friday is exponentially less likely, leading to a 1/49 chance
But, they could've both been killed on Saturday, Sunday, or Monday. The point is they were killed on the same day, which is 1/7.

Add them all up together and you get 7/49 which equals 1/7. Therefore the chance of them both being killed on the same day is 1/7.

All assassins and criminals have to been known by their full names. This is to prevent the wrong person from being arrested.
Yeah, John booth is a pretty generic sounding name, but Wilkes is a pretty interesting middle name. Idk if it was one of those old-timey names though. Like mark david chapman or James earl ray. I guess they all have pretty generic names so it makes total sense

Did anyone actually call Oswald by all three of his names before he was infamous? I seem to recall watching a documentary about the Kennedy assassination where they interviewed some of Oswald's neighbors and they just called him Lee.

The scariest coincidence, the license plate of the car that Archduke Ferdinand (guy who was assassinated starting WWI) license plate was A 11 11 18. Don’t get it yet probably, but A is armistice November 11, 1918 when the Armistice that ended WWI was signed!

The one about "dying near where they were shot" is so egregious to me. Like no shit, that's kinda how it works. You might as well have said "both died when their organs shutdown" WOW WHAT A COINCIDENCE
What about the one where they both died in a place that was different from where they were shot. Neither one of them died on the spot.
Kennedy died instantly, however Lincoln lingered for a while before he died. Kennedy had most of head blown away, where as Lincoln, his head was completely intact, the bullet was lodged behind his eye. but both would have been considered brain dead instantly immediately after the gunshots. when a bullet enters the skull it does a great deal of damage.

You too miss the point. Similarities between POTUS lincoln and POTUS Kennedy goes much deeper than first names and whether they have a beard or not. The universe can be calculated by numbers...einstein proved that. The facts associated with these dates are quite alarming. So alarming....it could have had some form of prediction on their fates.
Lincoln liked hats, particularly his classic stovepipe hat. Kennedy actually hurt the hat industry because he preferred not to wear a hat.

About the assassins being known by three names: This is an artifact of the news media. The news media will often use first, middle, and last names when referring to high-profile alleged criminals in order to not get sued by other people who might have the same first and last names. But usually, the alleged criminals were not actually known by three names before becoming famous. Oswald was known as Lee Oswald before shooting Kennedy, but there might very well have been another Lee Oswald in Dallas at that time, so the news media used three names to avoid confusion.
not all assassins are known by 3 names. But in this case their full names both had 15 letters.
0:38: I have (or had) the poster on the left bottom. I later found at least 3 "coincidences" to be false. Two were mentioned by Matt: both the assassins' birth years and the secretary non-coincidence (OK, Kennedy's secretary was indeed named Evelyn Lincoln). The writer of that poster did a little hasty math: Booth was 26 when he was killed in 1865; Oswald was 24 when he was killed in 1963. But Oswald's 24th birthday was about 5 weeks earlier in 1963, while Booth died less than a month before his 27th birthday later in 1865. 1865 minus 27 is 1838 while 1963 minus 24 is indeed 1939.
The third non-coincidence, at the very bottom of the aforementioned poster, not mentioned by Matt, is completely false: "Both Johnsons were opposed for reelection by men whose names start with 'G'". While Lyndon was opposed by Goldwater, Andrew, though a Democrat, was so unpopular, he wasn't even nominated to run in 1868. His presidential goose was completely cooked. He never faced Ulysses Grant. Thus, he was not opposed by Grant in the election, though they did hate each other personally.
If you think about this from a statistics point of view, it's not actually that weird. There's something called the "Law of Truly Large Numbers": With a large enough sample, normally uncommon things will become common. Since there have been over 100 billion people over the course of history, there's bound to be a pair with a higher than usual number of things in common. The fact that Lincoln and Kennedy were both presidents just _happens_ to be one of those things.
Well your not picking from 100 billion people just people born after Lincoln was and who were eligible for the presidency. So not all 100 billion. Not saying it’s a conspiracy just pointing out that its from a smaller group than 100 billion.

The thing that makes it weird is that it was 2 incredibly famous people. If it was george from oklahoma and muhammad from saudi arabia it wouldn’t be weird at all. plus it’s just fun to find those coincidences that occur now and then.
Number 14 isn't so unusual. Its common place for alleged murderers to be called by three names. Probably so they don't get confused with similar named non suspects.

In 1951, the film "The Tall Target" was released. It dealt with a fictional assassination plot against President-Elect Abraham Lincoln staying in New York City on his way to Washington DC. The plot is foiled by a police detective named John Kennedy.
The film was a box office dud, but did gain some interest in the wake of the JFK assassination.

Many may not know but while still a boy, Abraham Lincoln lost his mother to what was believed at the time to be a vampire's bite. He vowed revenge, but failed, narrowly escaping with his life. He was rescued by coincidentally Milton Green (Marilyn Monroe's photographer). Green instructed Abe on how to dispatch the bloodsuckers he'd seen 'necking' with his mother. Abe continued his fight against the undead well into adulthood and into his presidency, making his last stand against the pale long-toothed men on the eve of the Civil War's first battle.

#14 should be added to the misleading category. Lee Harvey Oswald was never known publicly by his full name, until after the police investigation into the murder. It was the news media who began using his middle name in the aftermath of the assassination. You may notice news media often cites the full name (including middle names, where applicable) to notorious people, like serial killer John Wayne Gacy, for example. Often that is done to distinguish them from other people who may have a similar name, so they don't get harassed by the public, who might confuse their innocent neighbor for the killer. In fact, after Lee Oswald, visited Russia, he and his new girlfriend always referred to him by his alias, Alek Hidell. So no, Oswald was not known by three names, at least during his lifetime.
And yet he often signed his 3 names, as in the Mexico City hotel, and he used all three initials for his fake name at his rooming house. And the coincidence is the number of letters in the names of the two assassins. Is that so common? People have to mention that they were known by 3 names in order to point out that coincidence.
John Wilkes Booth frequently acted under the name "J. Wilkes," in an effort to set himself apart from his famous acting family. Also, Oswald generally went by Lee Oswald, not his full name. The practice of referring to Oswald by his full name may have originated when Henry Wade, the Dallas County prosecutor, was addressing the press regarding Oswald being captured and charged. Henry Wade, by the way, was Wade in Roe v. Wade.

There's a tendency to refer to assassins of public figures by their first, middle, and last names at all times, even though they, like most people, went by only their first names on a day to day basis.....Mark Davis Chapman is another example.

One example I know off the top of my head is Ronald Reagan's would-be assassin, John Hinckley Jr. He's usually only referred to by his first name, last name, and the "Junior" suffix to indicate which "John Hinckley" he was. Here's a few coincidences you won't have heard of. I was baptised on the 1st anniversary of Kennedy's assassination and my surname is Johnson, which might be the second commonest surname in the USA, but I'm British and Johnson is the 10th commonest surname in England. Whilst researching my ancestry, I discovered my 2nd cousin, 5 times removed, Colonel Pren Metham (1830 - 1917) witnessed the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln in April 1865 and he was the first man to jump onto the stage in pursuit of John Wilkes Booth. Not only did he name one of his sons Lincoln after the President, but his father was born in the English city of Lincoln in the county of Lincolnshire here in England.
It is not that common that two people have the same last name, even if a common one.

I'm 60, and I never even heard of many of those coincidences. One of the more interesting ones to me was no. 24. When I was a teenager, I had heard that Lincoln's Secretary of State was named Kennedy, and Kennedy's Secretary of State was named Lincoln. But wherever I had heard that from, it was told incorrectly (personal secretaries, not Secretaries of State), which I didn't know at the time. But I knew the Secretaries of State thing was false, because where I grew up in Morris County, NJ, a friend worked on a farm which contained an old stone house. That house was the former home of William Seward, Lincoln's Secretary of State. So obviously his name was Seward, not Kennedy. It wasn't until today, in this video, that I found out the coincidence was supposed to be with their personal secretaries, which of course turned out to be false anyway. So I'm glad this video showed up in my feed today. It was still fun to watch.
Fun Fact. Charles Darwin and Abraham Lincoln were both born on 12 February 1809. Just figured that out, wanted to tell it to someone.

A little good old fashioned research reveals that Booth was known to his friends & associates as simply "John Booth" or "Johnny Booth", and he frequently used the stage name "J. Wilkes". Lee Oswald, when alive, was known simply to his friends and associates as "Lee Oswald" or "Lee"; it has only been historians and writers who have made it popular to identify the men by their three names.
Fun fact: Marge Simpson's maiden name was also Bouvier, her full name before marrying Homer was Marjorie Jaqueline Bouvier. Also, Mayor Quimby from the Simpsons was based on Robert F. Kennedy.

One can argue that states South of the Mason-Dixon Line (the original north-south divide) and/or states which were Slave states were southern states (which applies to Maryland still, even if slavery was on the way out there).
Still, that'd be very nitpicky
Having grown up in Maryland (from middle school to early adulthood) I've always found it baffling that people don't consider it the South. There were still active tobacco plantations when I was growing up. Granted the slaves had been replaced by migrant workers but still very much a southern state culturally. I don't know any Marylanders who consider themselves Northerners. Yes it wasnt part of the Confederacy but it was largely due to federal intervention since DC would have been surrounnded by two confederate states if Maryland had succeeded.
