Some information from AudioQuest about the cable ranges:
The product lines are not meant so much to demarcate quality as they are specialized for particular applications. Bridges & Falls cables are optimized for versatility, can be terminated with a variety of plug options (including 3.5mm and DIN), and are outstanding choices for smaller systems and desktop systems where space is limited. The Rivers cables (and the larger Elements) are more technically sophisticated designs optimized for larger systems, but they lack the versatility of the B&F cables.

Great review. I am in the process of upgrading to a balanced Schiit system, separate DAC and amp, and came across the Yukon while researching XLR cables. I was surprised to actually find a smattering of reviews here. Thanks for taking the time to do this helpful review. Nice presentation style, preferable to some of the more self-satisfied reviewers, not necessarily the ones reviewing this particular product, but just audio equipment reviewers in general. Don't let the sad-sack knuckle-headed nabobs get you down. Nice work, keep it up.
Thanks Chris! Enjoy your balanced Schiit setup. That will be epic!
I’ve just ordered six pairs of these for my new processor/ amplifier combo
Nice! I hope you enjoy the sound.
If you think the Yukon is stiff, you need to go to try Water (currently discontinued, but was two steps up from Yukon into the next series a couple years ago). I replaced all of my "cheap" XLR and RCA interconnects with AQ Water XLR and RCA and it is W O R K !! A simple cable swap that should only take 30 seconds or a minute took several minutes. Wrangling the cables and getting into the right position and so forth. I had two Yukons that I had ordered before the Water and I just wanted to see the difference between the two and return whichever I wanted to keep. The Yukons are going back, but they are sooo much easier to deal with. But you said it right, once you get them installed, you don't have to fool with it again...until you do LOL. Setup: Schiit Freya N, Bifrost, Skoll, MoFi UltraDeck, and Blue Sound Node. Water XLR and RCA for everything and then AQ Diamond USB for the BSN to the Bifrost. I got all of the cables "open box" pricing, or I couldn't have stomached it otherwise.
Thanks for sharing that. Some cables are like bending steel bars! 😂
Thanks for the review.
You're welcome, Eric. I hope it was helpful!
Hey Lachlan - good video. I actually used the Colorados and have Sky’s currently in my system. Their older series is a good bang for the buck. Is this the interconnect you’re using in your current system?
Hi Brian, I've moved on to the Supra Sword interconnects and Curious interconnects these days. I've actually got a review coming up on them soon
@@PassionforSound If they’re good enough for your TT DAC than I’m definitely interested as it’s highly detailed. Priced pretty fairy compared to Audioquest high end stuff like the Fire, Blue Yonder, etc.
@@PassionforSound I would be willing to send you my Sky’s if you’d like to compare against them too. They’re only 0.5M though so don’t know if that would present a challenge for you. It helps me out because it would give me a launching point for an upgrade if you end up preferring the Supras.
Have you ever tried Nordost blueheven XLR? Any idea how it can compare with Yukon? Thanks.
Hi Chandana, I haven't tried it - sorry!
Great review, can you do the same kind of review for power cords?
Hi Gary, that's a dangerous topic, but I'm game! Leave it with me... 👨🚒 prepare for the 🔥🔥🔥
I enjoyed your review. Do you have a video and/or list of your associated hifi gear?
Thanks Bill. That's a great suggestion to create a video of my test gear. For now, I can tell you that I use the following chains:
Up to the DAC
PC - Audioquest Diamond USB - Schiit Gungnir Multibit (Gumby)
OR
PC - Raspberry Pi with BNC out to Gumby (ever so slightly better)
DAC to amp
Audioquest Yukon XLRs to Drop x THX AAA 789 amp
OR
Tara Labs RCA to Bottlehead Mainline amp (with upgraded Auricap output capacitors)
Headphones
Focal Clear, Audioquest NightHawk (original), Audioquest NightOwl Carbon, Noble Kaiser 10 IEM, Campfire Audio Andromeda IEM
There's other gear too, but that's generally not used for testing or critical listening.
@@PassionforSound thx that helps. I am a two channel loudspeaker guy with a dedicated listening room. It helps to know associated gear. I have read good things about Audioquest headphones, wish I had more time at Axpona to have auditioned them. Maybe next year...
how does the dbs system work, when I press the switch the light lighten and stop quickly
The button is just to test the battery level is ok IIRC. The way I understand it, the DBS system is energising part of the cable to influence the behaviour of the electro magnetic fields produced. Beyond that, I don't know enough about the physics to say how/why this is meant to influence the signal.
@@PassionforSound thanks🌹🌹
Good review but missing the music sound experience...
Hi Javier, thank you. What do you mean that it's missing the musical experience?
Hi ,I did like your review .......I need to upgrade my XLR cable micropĥone.I did buy one at 25$ some weeks before but I dont like it so i suppose than with a Mogami Gold Studio Câble microphone will improve the sound of my voice?.Some say that the price of a cable dont have any impact on the sound but just on quality construction but your point of view is different if I did well understand your review....,so in your opinion do the upgrade that I project worth the cost or do it will increase quality of my recordings? Thanks I did realy like the sound of your voice and music.....nice quality of sound:)
Hi Daniel and thanks for the compliments. I'm glad the review was helpful. Improved cables CAN improve sound, but there's no guarantee that spending more money will automatically grant you better sound. In my experience, if you have decent cables (i.e. average quality, not super cheap) then you're best to look to improve the rest of your system first and then use cables for the finishing touches. I don't know your specific setup, but I hope that approach is helpful.
@@PassionforSound thank you for your advise.....how much cost a decent cable, for exemple 6 ft ? Around 25$ us?
Hi Daniel, I don't do much with microphones so I'm not sure, but I'd imagine $25 should get you a decent cable. My instinct is that you'd be better off looking at the rest of your recording chain for improvement opportunities.
@@PassionforSound Thank you very much for taking of your time to try to help me and respond to me,i appreciate it greatly.:) I take and will follow your advise :)I wish you an excellent day .Daniel from Québec :)
Xlr, so diff too chose. Just bought $3k speaker cables, an now i look at 2 pairs of interconnects for $2k. Am i sane?
It's a tough hobby like that. There are excellent interconnects around for less money I expect, but some of the really high end stuff is also amazing
Not insane. If you have a $20,000 amplifier and $30,000 speakers, that's about right
@@SOS89140 yeah this would seem logical but it may not be. It's a marketing approach and it makes sense but incremental value is just so difficult to justify. Trust your ears and not the marketers. Speaker cables they have more value spending money on versus all the other interconnects which can be improved upon at far more modest cost. It's OK to spend a few hundred dollars when your system is valued at 100,000 as mine is. Human hearing it's not that good and even if there was something to here no one seems to know what this is. Electrical signals need to remove electromagnetic interference, your TV circuitry needs to be protected from noisy electricity the air conditioner. It will likely add life to the product and may not be visible in terms of improved performance, except when you're able to continue using a Smart TV for a really long time.
Pro Xlr cables for 2 x 3m lengths will do the same job for under $50.
They actually won't, Colin. I'm working on some tests over the coming months to produce solid data and evidence of this
@@PassionforSound I don’t trust anything from Audioquest as far as cables are concerned.
Is that because people have measured them and suggested they make no difference? If so, I'm working on some different tests to see if those measurements are really telling us everything. I don't believe they are.
That doesn't mean everyone should buy the most expensive cable out there because expensive doesn't equal better, but I think the scepticism against aftermarket cables has skewed too far the other direction
Good luck with your tests. 👍🏼
It only gets better when you burn in the cable. /s
@@PassionforSound honestly I don't believe in burn-in. I like the quality of the videos and the effort you put into them. but honestly I think you'd better not get into controversial topics such as burn-in or cable upgrades affecting the sound. some people believe in these but I don't think anyone can hear a difference in a proper blind test. Insisting on these subjects can hurt the reputation you are trying to build here. I'd stick with budget/midrange IEMs/headphones and of course DACs/AMPS/DAPs. And maybe some educational videos like how to EQ, setup foobar, etc.
@@PassionforSound no worries.
Nice video. You should try Lenehan's Foilflex cables - made in QLD, and I believe 30 day money back if you're not impressed. Amazing detail and bass extension/timbre
From what I understand, Audioquest's use of the term 'cold-welding' simply means the cables are crimped, but under extremely high pressure.
Ok so cold welded is a big deal but open up a amp or processor or speaker crossover and see how many contact points there are soldered, bunch of nonsense.
The ignorance is strong in this one... but what does one expect when the review is essentially reading off marketing spiel.
LOL I think those cables sound the same. Ask someone to change XLR cables in your system and try to guess which cable it is.
Hi Maaruks, I've been doing this long enough to know when I have expectation bias (which is 100% a real thing). There is no doubt in my mind that all cables change the sound. That doesn't necessarily mean that all 'upgrade' cables are better. I've reviewed more expensive cables in the past that I liked less than cheaper ones so I'm confident in what I heard with the Yukons.
You probably own paradigms
You really don’t know what your talking about rca can never do the same job as xlr if you don’t know what your talking about why are you wasting peoples time,go away
No need to be nasty. My point was not that XLR and RCA are interchangeable. The point was that Audioquest make this same cable in RCA and XLR so it's safe to assume that the same benefits that apply to this model of XLR cables also apply to the same model RCA cables.
Dude, mellow
