Round One on PROJECT BIG - Jakob Schubert & Adam Ondra

  • čas přidán 30. 05. 2024
  • Despite the many great and hard climbs in Flatanger, there had always been this special mystery around "Project Big". Adam Ondra had bolted it the same trip he bolted the climb that became "Silence", and although Adam himself considers it "the real line of the cave", it remained a project since.
When Adam invited Jakob to try "Project Big" together, it was an easy decision to join forces in aiming for the first ascent. Join in for some climbing wizardry, and see what it's like when two of the world's best push hard for the first ascent of THE unclimbed line in Flatanger.
    0:00 Introduction
    1:39 What is Project BIG
6:35 Jakob & Adam join forces
9:07 comparison of Jakob and Adam's climbing styles
11:29 progress is made while conditions get worse
14:12 game of strategy & tactics, first send goes by Jakob
Domen about Jakob, another send go
    23:55 Adam trying to send
25:20 crazy fall by Jakob end's a promising attempt
27:55 trip coming to an end
    33:16 Outro

Think of how the sport would progress with collaboration between top climbers on hard routes like this with some funding behind it! Imagine if you could count on one week a year looking forward to seeing top climbers work together on the toughest stuff, rather than them coming together for a world cup for instance. The crux of this route, which is very difficult indeed, comes when they are just pumped, completely. That move is very hard, but it's twice as hard when you do not have the strength anymore.

It is crazy how rusty some of the bolts in flatanger look after such short time. Shows the influence of the nearby sea? Also it almost looks like it is stainless steel, mixed with just the washer out of plated steel.
This Video and the recent one of Adam really make me want to go there! Amazing!

Adam, and Jakob! What interesting Biblical names you both have! I urge you to find their meaning.
Thank you both for such a beautiful struggle, a beautiful story. I love the route that takes us to excellence. As you both have proved, maybe not yet realized, excellence is a complete matter of the mind. Excellence in climbing combines the mind over the body. You both know this far beyond the masses.
There will come a time when the body fails to keep up with the instilled mindset. How you navigate this will wind up being the sum of all your effort, and understanding. I'm so proud of who you guys are and what you've done with your lives! Top notch excellence! Its just that it doesn't stop. When your ready the next step is spiritual humility. You'll have to find that route on your own. Make no mistake my brothers, you will have to navigate this terrain from your own soul.
Thank you for all your work, and all your excellence in it. You guys are poetry on the rock! Much love, much respect, so much appreciated! Climb on... 66carpenter

Makes me warm inside hearing foreign climbers swearing 🤬 in English. Then going straight into thire mother tongue 🤣 what a pair of monsters you both are. All that climbing and the easy 8a to the top. Mind blowing 💪 Superb video. 🔥
