It was quite a clever murder. They just needed to take a back step after and stay away from Columbo.The jerks were simply too arrogant and full of themselves.
The two punks' condescension helped Columbo nail them after he SAW them make fun of him.
Part of the magic of the character is that he took his work far more seriously than he took himself.
The truck as the murder weapon is brilliant here.
Sorry, I know it’s been a year, but I just saw it. The biggest issue I have is why he didn’t remove the contraption from his truck? That was the only way they truly were caught at the end of the episode. Sure, Columbo would of still caught them. Parking in the exact same spot as he did when they murdered the professor was most likely just him parking in his regular spot, but to still have the set up in his truck was slightly unbelievable...and I love Columbo
@@GhostDrummer No, they removed the murdering rig. But Columbo re-installed everything for the final scene, when he already knew who the culprits were
@@GhostDrummer no, he put back the mechanism, that is what the technicians he brought did, a reconstruction of the crime scene.
At 1:53 when the professor is shot dead, you can see blood splattering over the car and it’s windshield, however a few seconds later the car appears to be completely clean with not a drop of blood present 🤨
Probably the most explicit and violent murder in the whole series.

I'd seen it before, but it still came as a shock.
To be fair, that bar is waaaaaaay low. It’s almost comical how little violence they showed in the early seasons.

Well, he did go into the building. But rather than run up the stairs, he drove around.
Hard to imagine Columbo would let them move anything from the crime scene.

They greased him up with great sports game tickets and the like so he’d let his guard down around them and feel as though he could trust them.

For the most part, I was surprised how the modern episodes (1989 - 2003) didn't lose their lackluster from the original 70's ones. They were just as good, if not better (although my only gripe is the slight adjustments to modernize them a tad bit). Otherwise, most tv shows just fade over time, and when they try a "come back", they come up well short.

Columbo sees a dead body and inspects it, he thinks to himself: "I bet those 2 kids behind me setup a pistol under the hood of their car and triggered it to go off remotely while attending my class as an alibi."

They mention the Devlin case,that was the name of the last one in 78,crime was no connection,think the writers would’ve used another name !
