Don't worry, I did that too a long time ago (for about a year!) and am INTP. INTPs question everything. I did the official MBTI test and got INTP but I kept going over it to make sure I wasn't INTJ.I got told if I really couldn't decide after all this time then I am probably INTP. They were right. An INTJ would decide quickly even if it was wrong.

I plan. I plan a lot. I come up with highly complex, systematic plans, which I draw out on paper, sometimes with diagrams and all...and then I go do something else that’s interesting and the “plan” ends up going in the clutter pile with all the other clutter papers. Sometimes I stick to the plan for a couple of hours. Maybe even a couple of days if I’m on a role.

Like I should work on a project and I'm searching for studies on it but then I notice some completely different study that has nothing to do with the topic of my project and start focusing on that because I'm curious so I end up procrastinating, learning about the new topic but the project I need to do stays untouched...

🤔I do this too. Instead I see it as, on my journey to study topic A, I found related or unrelated interests in topic B, but i
Don’t forget topic A, I go back to A and must get more data/info and I stumble across topic C, low and behold topic C is indirectly related to topic B, still none of these discoveries are related to topic A, but do not fret learning is never a waste! I get to topic D only to find that it is indirectly significant to topic A but directly related to topics B & C but only if topic B & C are present so they all relate to Topic A. Sure my research may be excessive but I am bringing home a huge WIN, meanwhile I have consumed tons of caffeine & dark chocolate and an so sleep deprived I crash! Over sleep and perform the best work my adrenaline glands can provide only to turn in my work late or with less than a minute to spare. The awareness of my deadlines motivate me like fire. This is the most concise explanation I could conjur for you. But all this to say I partially concur with your statement but I do encourage you to trust the rabbit holes & be constantly aware of your original goal & timeline. You’ll do fine. I now set multiple alarms on my phone to remind me if my focus points & deadlines. The alarms help but do not prevent my human error. Just trust & challenge your innate functions they do adapt/optimize!

    INTJs: Goal-orientated
    - Narrow down ideas, with a specific goal in mind. Less flexible.
    - Does this work? (pragmatic)
    - Perfectionists in the sensory realm.
INTPs: Bogged down in the details
    - Branch off ideas
    - Defer decision-making, very adaptable and improvising.
    - Why does it work? (Analysis)

INTJ here. Very accurate video indeed. I would also like to add some more points:
    1) INTJs are very impatient in general because they just can't wait to get something done, and then relax later. Where as INTPs are very patient (almost "too" patient in my opinion) because they just go with their own flow, take their jolly sweet time and do not like to be hurried.
    2) INTPs are very caring and want you to feel like you are important for them. INTJs on the other hand are quite self centered, and don't usually understand it.
    3) INTJs want it to work, where as INTPs want to know why it works.
    4) INTJs have "object issues" (they are more irritated at things that won't work rather than a confrontation), where as INTPs have "self issues" (they suffer more from their identity issues or public realtions rather than harmless objects)
    5) INTJs are generally bossy and do not like to be controlled, where as INTPs are like a grown up child who are very sweet in general.

Just an INTP anecdote about how I notice Ti working in my life:
My parents are currently renovating our house and I'm frequently forced to help out, and in the last 3 days, I've been forced to work on major plumbing and electrical projects (my dad's a knowledgeable guy) and I know nothing about plumbing or electrical myself. My first response to having to do this work was apathy, as I just want to sit and watch youtube. But, once I was involved in the process of having to wire a switched outlet, I became really engaged with the problem and wanting to figure out how it worked as much as possible so we could find a solution. This was a pattern of initial apathy because I was overwhelmed by how little I knew about these topics, but once I was forced into them and learned a lot, trying to solve new problems became really interesting.
To sum up, INTPs experience a lot of apathy when it comes to things they don't already know much about, but can really become obsessed with why things work once they establish a baseline of knowledge.

My husband is an INTP and I am an INTJ. Without applying anything I knew about MBTI, I have always described our goals as him as expansive and imaginative (the brilliant ideas man) and I as providing a more 'grounding' role to those ideas (manifesting the resources and time-table necessary for the idea decided most worthy of the time spent). It is a great combination but it can hit several snags in production. There have been times where my INTP husband has just wanted to explore concepts and I mistakenly, took all the ideas seriously and started poking holes in them (in my attempt to try to identify and iron out any issues beforehand). I had to learn to just appreciate staying with him in the intellectual realm when he was in such a mood, instead of trying to make everything a reality and envision how it would run "on the ground". Now, I try to make sure I can detect what the conversation leans towards and, if unsure, I ask if what we're talking about is something that he would want to 'do' in real life.

Very good video. I'm an INTP with an INTJ fiancee. We have our similarities but the way we operate is very different. Most of the confusion comes from not knowing the cognitive functions, we don't share a single one in the top 4. As an example, she sometimes writes blogs and am trying to write a book.
INTJ- She has like 10 articles out
INTP- whilst I'm trying to discover the underlying system behind writing styles to perfect the first paragraph of my first chapter (it's going well).
INTJ- She has plans and when something unexpected happens she is completely stressed and paralyzed.
INTP- I don't plan and if something unexpected happens I improvise and find a solution using the systems I have created through analysis ahead of time.
INTJ- When she talks it's always for a specific reason and she assumes everyone is like that, making her question my motives when I'm just exploring ideas.
INTP- I usually have just one motive, to understand, and I will notice something interesting in a conversation and stop and start explaining it, which makes her puzzled and ask me "and why are you telling me this? what is your point?"
There is no way you can be in between one and the other, if you think you're on the line in between them then you haven't looked into the Jungian functions enough. Forget about the Myers-Briggs test and just the 4 letters, that last 1 letter difference completely reverses the introversion/extroversion of each function and changes whether a sensing or a judging function is primary. We share NO functions. If you think "I'm an INTX but do that too" then know that everyone does everything sometime, consider how often you tend to do it. Get it right scrubs.

I had ideas, I analyzed very well and I was able to plan what I wanted to do but when it came to writing I couldn’t write 100 words a day at first. I always got stuck on the meanings of the words, if the information I had was true, that I know what I was talking about. These essays are not life changing but when I become interested in stating my point of view, eveything I had to write should be true or reflect me perfectly. I know that isnt a good way of thinking but itdoesn’t feel right if I don’t make sure of these points. It creates such unnecessary stress but I can’t avoid it. I dont know what I should do.

Lal Birol This is so true for me as well. I think on some level I just can’t write anything that doesn’t make sense to me or ring true because the only way I can write is in the pursuit logical coherence. Logic and truth are the guidelines by which I structure all of my writing.
I have no idea how people can actually write things that don’t make sense. Being misinformed is one thing, but to have no logical structure to your writing at all? I an INTJ dating an INTP. We are COMPLETELY different! I did a PhS in Philosophy and Logic and to quickly break to myth around logic, it's not analytically at all. Logic is nothing like math and requires an insane amount of creativity. In logic you tend to have one goal, similar to how INTJs narrow in on one thing. You're give 'rules' which are really the possibilities INTJs focus on. The goal of logic is to reach the goal in the most efficient way within the bounds of the rules. Which seems analytical, but really you can reach the goal 100 different ways.
Anyways, when my partner and I get into arguments, 99% of the time it's me telling him: "Focus on ONE thing at a time!" It's hilarious, he gets so lost in trying to understand things he loses sight of why he's doing something.

Optimization of a quantity, under fixed constraints and axioms (AKA "most efficient way") is a math problem,(not quite a "logic" problem, that is exactly what, computer science deals with ). In fact, you can say, modern logic is a subset of mathematics ,in general .Just,In math,You experiment with possibilities, and I don t know what you do with "logic" alone . Ofc,High school and college give a bad impression ,That math is all about formulae(that is exactly,The most cost efficient way to program a bunch of morons to do menial tasks)

Hmmm... I think when an INTJ is in leisure mode, or does not have a specific goal in mind, like when he's just wasting time in an airport, he becomes an INTP and focuses on analyzing stuff and collecting information.
A real life example, I've recently discovered online shopping (yeah, I'm late in the game) and as an INTJ initially I just clicked and paid and that's it, done! No need to know all these other possibilities. Then, during a boring day with nothing specific to do, I just thought why not explore this online shopping app. Likewise, when I don't have anything to do, I like to walk around and discover random little things in my neighborhood, like an Indian grocery and a hole in the wall Chinese restaurant. Otherwise I don't really care.
However, all this information will be stored for future use. In fact, my INTJ mind deliberately tries to find a way to use these collected information, or else I bury them in the deep recesses of my memory, because my mind dismisses them as unimportant. Which is why, I think, the little details I collect find their way into my writing. Information can't just sit in an INTJ mind, but needs to be useful for a goal.
What do you think, fellow INTJs?

I feel like it’s the rigid grade school structure and the parents that valued education, that made me more J than P back then. Because once I was left on my own for uni and flourishing after, I’ve sort of “let go” and explored many things , and now struggle more to get things done compared to young “INTJ” me 😂 to many great ideas and things to do… so little time ….no I’m just procrastinating

as far as how they approach nearly EVERY aspect of life...
think of perspective/approach to ANYthing as though its trapped in/part of a funnel.
INTPs are EXPANSIVE - they start at the narrow end of the funnel and work their way out. they see ALL OF THE POSSIBILITIES (and beyond). INTJs are REDUCTIVE - they start at the wide part of the funnel and are GREAT at boiling things down to their most essential/crucial aspects.

Also, I think ultimately that having tertiary Fe forces us to put a little bit more thought into our outfits than maybe the INTPs do. Like, I can’t always be bothered to make the effort, but I feel a slight sense of shame when I don’t. INTPs may not even realize that they’re underperforming fashion-wise. Which is adorable. This was probably the best explanation of INTP vs INTJ. I really identified with both quite a bit. I'm someone who likes to focus on the end goal in planning but constantly gets bogged down in the various branching paths.
That example of the powered object really had me stumped as to what I would choose. Clearly, the logical answer would be to get the one use out of it, but the allure of figuring it out and potentially unlocking more uses out of it is so tempting that I could easily see myself just going with that on impulse after a lot of indecisive back-and-forth.

I know I’m an INTJ, but I identified w/ many of the descriptions of INTP here. In my case, it’s probably due to my need to adapt to my life circumstances. I had to be EVERYONE/EVERYTHING to myself (mom, dad, teacher, friend, doctor, so I was able to develop my weaker functions, initially by emulating others, then eventually embodying their qualities.

I'm somewhere in the middle... I start with a goal, but while trying to get there by connecting pieces that paves the path, I often find myself analyzing them at least to some extent. Not because I want to, but rather I have to. This is to make sure that it actually works and I'm not being misinformed. Because in today's online culture, everyone is a self-proclaimed guru. And you have to differentiate the phonies from real deal.
Not sure what that makes me, but that's fine as long as I actually find the truth.

Yeah this confirmed I'm INTJ. It's very natural for me to establish a goal, break a problem down to its essential parts and discard the noise. I also have a tendency to think others take too much time in figuring out why something is the way that it is when I've already established that it doesn't matter because we know enough now to get us to our goal. In my mind, I'm thinking "we're wasting energy and time doing this." But over the years I've also learned this can be a shortcoming in the way I think, because understanding how something works can lead to new possibilities that are helpful.

I have always been on the fence with my tests revealing INTJ 65% of the time and INTP the remaining 35. But after this clear video I can certainly say I am an INTJ without a doubt. Whenever I consider future scenarios I usually backtrack from my 'goals' and see which path has the higher probability (branches off to more paths connecting to goal) to finally reach the goal. And also in that magical object question he asked, I felt 0 hesitation in choosing the 1st path...like analysing and knowing is all good but I wont risk that given that my analysis may not yield any results and i may never use the object. I wont wanna waste the bird already in my hand.
But...in the very next example, I swayed again towards INTP

When I take the tests I get intj but I think I'm an intp just a more disciplined one, because no one would compare me to the lazy intp stereotype.
In the first scenario, I would definitely want to analyze the device since doing so could create more opportunities for efficiency but in the second, with the youtube thumbnail, I would get the video completed before doing any outside research. My fashion sense falls closer to intj as well.
So I don't know which I am more like.
But since I'm here questioning it and overthinking it that probably puts me more in the intp category.

    • @lovewho

I don’t know what I am anymore. 2:25 When you started going on about being decisive, I thought, “Oh that’s easy, must be an Ni user” but then I remembered on of my favorite manipulation tactics as a child was to act indecisive when given a choice of two things I really wanted (lollipop or chocolate etc.) I would start panicking, not making a scene but visibly stressed. I found that a lot of the time, I would end up getting both things. This was perhaps the only successful manipulation tactic I used frequently. It works better under a time limit, like a checkout line since the person had less time to process what’s going on. Normally, decisive is a word that could describe me, but that little tactic will stick with me.

I'm not so sure about that proposed outcome. I'm an INTJ and I imagined this mystical item that would give me 8 hours more per day (to sleep instantly ans save time) BUT I would first question the stability and safety of that item i.e can it hurt my in any way shape or form, how it will affect my mind body and spirit etc. as a result of that I would be incline to make it work. Although I will admit the process of making it work would piss me TF off so badly, I would hate every second of it...but I'd do it if it could be used for my other goals. Perfection is the object of my desire so you intrigue me with the possibility of that. Anyways, I just thought I would share that idea with you. I grew up with a best friend who is INTP and I love hearing your ideas etc.

My brother asked me that once...and I told him I figured I would be doing exactly what I was doing at the time... and it's 20 years later and I still am. I knew myself then, and I know myself now, and I knew what I wanted out of life what I didn't want and that's what I have. Example: I prefer to rent because I don't want to have to maintain a house/yard or pay someone to do it, or pay to heat / cool an entire house when a small two-bedroom apartment gives me all the room and need and more. And I don't have to pay home-taxes, which are the highest in the country where I live.
