The Middle Way is such an interesting term, because it’s most commonly associated with Anglicanism- like it’s the path between Catholicism and Protestantism. I guess that’s why they say he’s so successful converting Anglicans in the show. Interesting that he appropriated it as a phrase describing a way of being Catholic- this show really gets you thinking!

I think the reason why he was so successful with those conversions was that, as he himself stated in one of episodes, he didn't talk with people about religion, but he talked with them about them. The whole point of Brannox is that he's not really a great theologian, core of his work being after all taken from his twin brother ideas. Everything that is priestly in Brannox is, while successful, also false and fake, because it's just a pitiful attempt at being his twin brother. His true self is that of an abandoned, unloved, self hating person. So he gave people what he himself wanted - attention, interest and love - and won them thanks to that.

Why does he wear eye makeup? This show is amazing. Never thought I'd watch a show about a pope.

Technically its the first season of "The New Pope", but I get what you're saying.
I still agree that John Brannox is a fascinating character, and I hope there is more of him in the future.

yeah, but it makes no sense trying to watch the serie without the argument of the first one. Despite this, at the begining i was like: pio c’mom wake up, and now i’m like c’mon John ruleee the churchhhh

Its a shame, the middle way is written by his twin brother Adam, he only published it and took the credit. He was only an addict.
