  • Welcome to video 27 in our van build series.
Today we are going to install our fresh water tank, water supply line, tank vent, inline water filter and water pump. The water tank we selected is the Promaster Wheel Well Water Tank from Curious Campervans. This tank utilizes that awkward area around your wheel well that often gets wasted. It holds 22 gallons. The water pump we chose is the SHURFLO 4008. It is a 12V 3GPM RV water pump. We will share with you why we selected this tank and why this water pump as well as how we chose to install them.

Plumber showed me you can find small leaks better by open and closing the faucet on and off sharply. Also heated water will show up quicker than cold. He said he didn't want call backs weeks down the road. Water ruins cabinets.

You sounded as happy as I was when put my 28 gal complete with on demand hot water for under $250 in my promaster

Yes, listening to yourself on video is sometimes telling or even embarrassing. I would like to hear more about your water system. How did you do all of that for under $250?

Consider attaching some bug screen to the end of the water tank overflow.

Hey Buddy another great video. If I might make a suggestion. Think about adding a valve to the vent. My Motorhome had one and it was surprising how much water we’d lose while driving if I forgot to close it.

      Hey Buddy,
I was thinking the exact same thing. I was going to buy a screened vent for the vent line. Now you are suggesting a valve, explain? I do need the vent open to draw air in when the water is pulled out. Are you thinking leave the valve closed when not in use and then open it while using the camper? I’m not against that idea…. Tell me your thoughts.

@@LifeIsShortDIY Exactly. Just a ball valve like you have on the drain. Open it when camping to allow air into the tank but closed when under way to reduce the amount of water lost from sloshing. The tank on the travel trailer does not have one and I’ve noticed we lose up to a quarter tank of water when driving.

Are you going to add a water heater for the shower? I am planning a similar shower and have been waiting for how you will finish it out

Adding on demand propane would be a piece of cake to this set up!

      Good morning.
Our plans could change, but currently we don’t have plans to add a hot water heater. This doesn’t mean we won’t be able to have a shower, because we will. Our current plan is to heat hot water for that purpose. Yes this is not as convenient as instant hot water, but it is more in line with our mission of having a shower available “if we need it”.
We are thinking most of our showers will be in camp grounds or swimming. We have a small secondary portable pump kit that draws water from a bucket. Here is a link to that product:

      www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B077NXT1X8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Incidentally, I do NOT endorse this product. Although we haven’t set it up in the camper yet, or done a video on it, I did test the unit and found that all of the fittings leaked. So, I may or may not go down this path.
Down the road, if we find our needs change, and we would like the availability of instant hot water, I think we would consider an on-the-demand hot water system.
Thank you for your question, and yes we may go that route after we have a little more experience using our camper.
      Cheers
      Dwayne
