    Loved the beautiful sounds the gongs make - some have such a long sustain with a magnificent clear sound. Thx for setting up this installation again and walking us through the beautiful sounds created with it

    Man, ever since I saw Stewart Copeland of The Police use this kind of rig I always wanted to create some mesmerizing sounds from that rig!

    Bill Bruford, back in the day, used a string of 'Accent Cymbals' when they were known as 'Children's Cymbals.' They were originally developed as hand cymbals for elementary school music use. They were sold in pairs and had leather hand straps (I still have a bunch of straps from mine in a box somewhere). When Bruford and others popularized them, they changed the name to 'Accent,' because what serious drum set player would want to buy/play 'Children's Cymbals'?.

      Thanks very much. I now recall seeing "children's cymbals" in one of the Paiste profile books. I appreciate the great info!

    I really like your set-up. I'm still working on mine, so far I've got an LP Percussion Tray LP761. I place a few shaker and use it to set my drumstick until I'm ready to play. I have a guitar stand that I use to lean my rain-stick on.

      Hi Michael! Thanks for subscribing and for the comment. I was fortunate to get this set while it was available as a complete set. Over the years, I have created smaller percussion sets using the LP tray you mentioned. There are SO MANY cool percussion instruments out there. I recently tried the LP "Monsoon Rainmaker". Anyways, all the best!

    Hi Rob, great video! What is the exact name of the instrument that is turning with long resonance? It come on different sizes/pitches? And the name of the rectangular that sounds as a bell? Thanks so much! :)

    • @RobGretsinger
      @RobGretsinger  Před 2 lety +2

      Hi Patricia! Thank you for watching my video. The turning disc is called a "Rotosound". They are unfortunately discontinued. The sizes offered were 6 3/4", 7 3/4", and 9". I first saw these used by Stewart Copeland: czcams.com/video/FTYl1yq334Y/video.html.
      The rectangular "bell" is a "Sound Plate". Unfortunately, these are also discontinued . . . they were originally available in four sizes. The company Dream Cymbals offers four octaves of "Bell Plates". You may find these interesting: dreamcymbals.com/products/pitched-percussion/bell-plates
      Anyways, I hope this info helps! Take care!

      @@patriemar Thanks very much! My Rotosound is 8". The approximate note is a "D". Paiste made a 7" and 9" Rotosound as well. I don't know the pitches of those. I hope this helps!
