Father I have never repented to a priest, I feel too ashamed to tell the priest the sins I have committed.

From my limited understanding while we are confessing the priest is praying for you and Not remembering or judging sins. They are simply interceding on your behalf

It goes against the Canons that clergy must follow to judge a penitent sinner during or after confession. It is a grievous sin for them, so do not be worried about the possible sin of your priest, only your own sin

I felt that way, too, but I mustered up the courage and afterwards, felt such relief as I never imagined possible.

The priest is like a doctor of the soul… would you be ashamed to go to a doctor of the body to tell him about your symptoms and illnesses? No! Maybe a little but embarrassed … but it’s ok
A priest has already heard everything, every sin under the sun … more experienced priest can also guess what kind of sin you committed just by looking at you, knowing your age, sex, job etc

I always found it odd that protestants rejected confession because it was too catholic and not biblical enough. Yet now there are churches with accountability programs. A rose ("non biblical" Tradition) by any other name is still a rose IMHO 😉.

The entire protestant ethos is "down make me do anything I don't feel like" So they pick and choose whatever verses of scripture agree with whatever current emotions they have and they hold on to those. The easiest way wad to just profess faith and Christ and let him do all the work after and thus they can be saved no matter what. From there you get a few groups that also don't have a problem with a few other ways mentioned in scripture but at its core its a movement of ego pride and sloth.

What about a tight knit group of priests? So far, I’ve had confession with all three priests at my parish at least once, but mostly with the one who Chrismated me. I guess i should at least avoid confessing to any other except in an emergency.

Can we ask God Himself to forgives us? Thanks

  • @john-xo9vp

So we can confess directly to God, but ideally it's done via the priest for the benefits and cause it's a sacrament.

Considering the church has closed their doors...I guees it's not that important. I will be an orthodox christian until the day I fall asleep...The church hierarchy however seems determined to destroy everything we built.
