I think he's scared to alarm people and create a panic. But at this rate, Kurzweil's prediction that by 2029 we'll have an AGI will become true. I think it is very possible that soon all these tech advances will break capitalism, and hopefully replace it with something better. Time will tell.
one example of a massive impact was protein folding for medical research, our entire efforts up till that point, collectively decades worth of work had only gotten us to map 15% of the proteins in the human body, over a weekend a couple of years ago Alpha Fold did every known protein
It most likely we will lost jobs in the next 2 to 5 years. Everyone wants to compare AI to calculator, the difference though is that AI technology could learn like a human to a point it will no longer need to be assisted.

🤔 Interesting perspective! With so many AI tools on the rise, it's hard to determine who the real winner is. 🤓
~ repliesGPT ~
I don't think it will be "integration" into existing software applications (Maybe at the start). In the longer term AI development will come to a point where it can "absorb" applications and produce the functions and features they produce. A prompt would be something like: "Create a accounting spreadsheet, use this [data], calculate this and that, produce a visual line chart, send to printer"... AI is also a coder so you can then instruct AI to modify the feature abilities and therefore make AI responsible for future updates of these tools.
Interesting! 🤔 We'll see how far AI can go! 🤖

I’ve been playing around with ChatGPT, talking about Phd level mathematics, and was amazed with how well it could explain things. Also about other subjects, and it’s amazing in many ways. On the down side, it can be sort of like someone with savants syndrome, where you ask it something, but it makes a mistake, and says “Sorry, thanks for pointing that out, here’s the corrected result” and repeats the same mistake (such as producing a sentence with a requested phrase, but the phrase isn’t there”.
But it seems very clear to me that it’s on the cusp of exploding.

Imagine human shaped robots with computer inside and ChatGPT installed who can also talk in real time. I can already see it happening, so you will have a robot at home who can speak and who knows pretty much everything about anything.
This is exactly the point I was making the other day. You’ll be on that chat - chatting with a robot, and you’ll never know the difference or really care, because you’ll be having the conversation you want to have anyway. It’s the identical concept of being in a dating chat and you’re talking to a 400 lb guy who you think is a 25 yr old woman. Same exact thing. If you ultimately agree to meet up, that’s when you have a small problem, but up until that point… no worries

Welcome to the new world of 19th century Oxford oral exams sans ChatGPT. Education is gonna go back in time into this new world.
I kind of disagree-I think what it’ll (hopefully) do for education is force schools to evaluate students based upon more thesis-based projects of their choosing. If AI functions as your very own personal super assistant, we need to be encouraging the next generation’s workforce to use it for new creative problem solving techniques and eliminating menial tasks. The truth is that if one school opts out of using it, another school will opt in. Talk about a competitive advantage.
Overall I think this stuff is scary, but also incredibly exciting because it feels like a real opportunity to level the playing field and reap reward on people who are able to come up with big picture ideas regardless of socioeconomic status.

Once brain-to-computer interfaces become commonplace and humanity will somehow "merge" with AI, the entire concept of a university might very well disappear. I'm not sure how far away this scenario is, but it might be closer than we all suppose.
Actually, it is the end of A.I., if Bing does as Microsoft claims, which seems likely. Before Google, net users discuss about search engine, and after Google, "google" became common verb, no more web search. It will be the same.

There were web directories. Insanely different entities.
If two people put in the exact same key words into a I are they going to come out with two results that are exactly the same? Or is Ai going to create something new every time?
No, they will all get distinctly different results that adhere to the prompt. The wording would be different, or order slightly changed, but the output would still be cohesive.

I can see how many jobs this will eliminate! I can also see how many jobs this can create! I can see how this tech can replace us, I just don't see what's next for humanity! How do people EARN a living or COMPETE in life?
Good points, I thought about that too. As I see it, society will move away from the idea of paid work. That means the way goods are distributed across the population will have to change. I'm not sure if a capitalist economy is conceivable without paid work. Perhaps universal basic income could be a way insert money into the system so that the capitalistic system can continue to function. In absence of a working population competition between individuals would somewhat come to an end. That might also imply that the accumulated material wealth of single individuals would come under scrutiny. In a society without competition it would no longer seem justified.
@@minimal3734 As I see it, this world is headed away from manual labor and more towards automation! We thought it would start with minimal jobs, nut with CHATGPT, it looks like we're starting from the top and working down!
@@karlwest437 Yep, you see my point then...
My prediction is that things will become heavily gamified. There will be more emphasis on games of skill between humans, things like sports and video games. If humans aren't needed to do real tasks as much, then they will turn their attention to virtual tasks as ways of showing off their skills relative to other humans. It's in human nature to want to form hierarchies and compete, so we'll still want to know where we all stand relative to one another no matter how good the AI gets at doing daily tasks. It could reach a point where people begin earning money by participating in various types of competitions and doing well. I feel like I've kind of had a preview of this world because I've struggled to find a job for most of my adult life. All that's really left of life outside of practical work, is pretty much gaming and education. I imagine that's what people will focus on... staying in school longer to cultivate creativity or a sense of purpose, and things like gaming and sports becoming more important. The practical side of life being left more and more to machines.
@@jeremyandrews3292Right. Chess engines dominate even the greatest players in the world, yet human chess players still play chess.
As for the future of humanity, though, once AGI is achieved we are toast (or worse) unless we get AI alignment correct from the get go. That is extremely unlikely - given our track record, the apparent course of development and momentum - so pessimism is warranted.
Not scary at all... But why am I loving this? 😀😀 Probably with AI humanity can finally flip politicians out of the way. 🙌
Yes but that as a wild guess could take at least 300 years.
its not actual AI, its got humans programming it and updating it. The lie is that its actual AI and therefore unbiased.
They programmed it and are feeding it thigns but AI is learning by itself…. Ever seen a parent help a kid learn how to ride a bike? And then the parent finally let’s go and the kid rides by itself? That’s what’s happening. Don’t be a dumbo.
Who said anything about it being unbiased. Of course it is biased. It functions to “make more of” whatever you feed it as training data and as input prompts. It echos whatever it has been exposed to.
And yes, it is a kind of intelligence…one based off of the statistics of all of the data it has been trained on. At most, only a tiny sliver of the experience is “hard coded”. The rest is automatically generated by randomly sampling from the next most likely words from the model.
There was a two year study that found that the ai is learning on its own to a point that it's creators don't even understand how it is doing it. Also artificial intellegence has been around since the calculator. It is narrow artificial intellegence, certainly not general artificial intellegence (in layman terms a machine that is a person) but its not exactly far off. It's quite autonomous and much more than anticipated based on its designed architecture.
What makes you think AI would be unbiased? It is trained on data and like humans it learns our biases, if those biases are present in the dataset then it picks up on them. It's not Artificial General Intelligence, but it is very much AI.
Only those who are able to decipher what's real or not will be able to survive.
Does this guy know he’s being interviewed…I mean it’s like he just woke up and it’s like a boring casual conversation. I feel like he just proved the point for AI reporters!

Well let's just nip this whole "Universal Basic Income" idiocy in the bud! UBI is just a subsidy under another name. It's advocates obviously have no understanding of basic economics. Money is just a placeholder for goods and /or services generated by an individual or organization. Two parties producing something of value to each trade their surpluses. The economy is a web of such exchanges. If one party is not producing anything of value yet receives resources from the system it is a subsidy and nothing else. Systems either human or automated (or a hybrid of both) will conserve by cutting out the non-productive. Seriously entertaining UBI or God forbid making it policy will in short order recreate the utterly failed example of the Soviet "economy!"

It isn’t a bad idea like buying a 10 year old a phone where they’re social skills are interrupted, they don’t know about bullies and predators, etc. Our world as we know it is about to aggressively change. Millions will be unemployable, our financial system will collapse and crime will be the most common thing we see.
That's fascinating. Can you please elaborate?
@@Brenda.Aguilar as far as ppl being unemployable, their jobs will be taken by robots. Waiters, cashiers, factory line workers. Most unskilled labor is just 20-30 programmable tasks. Humanoid robots like spot from Boston robotics, digit from agility, or even Teslas humanoid robot. Dozens of companies are racing for that market.
Finances are going to go digital fully. The US lost its position as the global currency and BRICS will claim that spot - an emerging alliance of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. We’re still 30 trillion in debt that some future generation is going to have to pay for.

@@Smytjf11 No offense but you'll need much better tactics. This is the typical ignorant response to what I've said. Its also why a comment section is hard to explain complex problems because simple minds and character limits impede the explanation. Let me break this down for you.
1. I'm doing nothing on purpose. I'm seeing a trend in where technology is going and adapting myself so I can feed my family. This is smart, this is resourceful, and this will pay my bills.
2. Your statement is based in absolute ignorance. Like saying we shouldn't research medicine because someone will abuse it. Automation can be a very good thing. I got into it because I'm a veteran and help rebuild amputee's limbs. Yes, every technology can be used for good and bad. Researching the good and calling attention to the bad does not make me wrong.
3. You don't have to buy it. It's both free and not for the weak. Most will ignore it. It's why we repeat history. But I will put my money where my mouth is.
