Im in the usa. I carry a fixed blade knife all the time. i had 3 men try and rob me at an atm last year. The only thing that kept them away from me was that knife. Im glad i had it, and didnt have to actually use it.
I am pretty sure that if they really wanted they could have beat you and use your knife against you. Except if you are in great shape and good in armed close combat, you are clearly risking your life here.
@@theoardoin4735 i agree that i risked my life, but i didnt want to lose control of the situation or get robbed. I immediately showed them i was armed and told them not to come within arms reach. It gave me enough time to step out into traffic and get distance between us. The only thing i would change if i could do it over is not show them the knife. Telling them i was armed and intentionally being vague on what with, would have been smarter. If they had been armed with a gun i wouldve been fucked.

Very good set of points. Even as a resident of the USA, where weapon laws are... different... the draw time and awareness factors are so significant that they make questions of legality moot.
Not to mention if you try using any weapon you're not a trained expert in using it could very easily be taken off you and used against you.
oh so if im wearing steel toe boots my attacker can take them off me and beat me with them, or maybe put them on his feet and kick the shit out out of me, wow! im going to walk about with flip flops on my feet.

It would be in your favor to carry a kitchen type cheap knife not a $300 one. You can throw it away and run or show your defense lawyer you were just protecting your self with what was handy . Learn how to use it not just carry it.
Any knife without a pommel will get greasy with blood and slip from your hands, cutting your own fingers when used in a fight.
