Good Video! I am looking to purchase the EV Version very shortly! I hope you just got a lemon! I also love HoBao.. I go way back with the Ofna's as well from the early 2000's. I am very surprised this happened with yours! Anyone who sees this video, I would implore you to not be afraid of still purchasing one of these! If I had to guess, I truly think that this was just one isolated incident here!
The fact that HoBao USA also warrantied, and took care of you without issue speaks volumes to me!

Thank you for the support! And yes, this is the first time I get a hobao product with these kind of issues, I really liked how they took care of it fast and without any fuss. The buggy is still top notch in my opinion and I'd say this was just an isolated issue.

Hey, I am glad you enjoy the videos! Yeah we love F1, that's all we watched at home growing up (as far as "sports" go) lol. Definitely try nitro, it's a very different and more involved experience. Don't hesitate to reach out if you ever need anything.
Very informative, well done. Bad news about the engine though, yet great warranty cover.. I think they should have fitted a .21 instead with that car, actually aim it at racing if they're going to put a graphic on the box saying "Race Buggy" (personally I wouldn't have that graphic). But, they probably already know that most folk won't even entertain looking at Hobao for competition (unless you're in Asia), and instead aiming the car at the basher perhaps, hence why they chose to fit a huge .30 engine like that. I know they're popular in Asia, but sadly not quite reached that pinnacle of race thoroughbred elsewhere in the world. I bought the rolling chassis VS2e version about 5 months ago, which I've set up for competing at national events here in the UK. I own a few Hobao's and not one of them I found to be defective, they're extremely tough, and are more than capable at competing amongst the popular "race brands" we see. I feel it's a shame they're overlooked really as a brand that you can compete with. All I've done to the VS2e is change the diff' and shock oils to my preference, lower the chassis, some suspension adjustments, fitted a VP Pro wing, using competition wheels/tyres, and added my own electrics - and it's been brilliant to be fair. It handles superbly well when on track, don't know what the stock setting was like as I immediately set about changing things from out the box. I haven't had to make any link arm adjustments, it went in a straight line and cornered well right away. Even if it turns out to be half as good as what the SSTe Truggy is on track, I'll be chuffed!
Thank you, I really enjoyed that buggy. It was a blast all around, I think Hobao is quite underrated here in the US. They really make excellent quality RC's.
They really are a good brand, excellent quality.. and I think people don't realise that until they own one. I did an event two months ago using a newly built SWORKz T2E Truggy, being new to that Truggy and learning how it behaved ill admit I did struggle somewhat to begin with, so much so that I decided to give the Hobao Truggy a run in one of the qualifiers - I qualified much higher with that than the SWORKz, it felt sure-footed on track, I knew what it was going to behave like, unlike the other Truggy 🫣 so it managed to qualify higher than other race kits, proves that it can be competitive.
@cramalnig that is really interesting! I haven't taken many rtr cars to the track, maybe I should start doing that and comparing them to other brands and kits. I'd like to see the hobaos do against my kits. One thing is for sure, hobao's would probably outlast most kits. They are tough as nails!
You'd make some good videos I think by doing comparisons. I've only ever bought rolling chassis versions of Hobao, I prefer to add my own electronics and tinker with the setup, far better I think than stock electrics. Those rolling chassis' have never disappointed me at all... That last event I did with the SWORKz was a pure learning curve, having sussed a few things out with it it's now ready for the next one in July (on astroturf, oh dear, another learning curve!).. but I'm confident in the Truggy now that it'll perform. I'll be using the VS2e in the eBuggy class too.. 😎 that'll be interesting..

A track is opening very soon so I’d like to give it go just don’t want to spend a huge amount

You could take this racing, more in a recreational/fun way if that makes sense. It won't be very competitive against well sorted race kits. Another good option would be the Serpent SRX8
You can take it racing, though you'll need BRCA membership, and a maximum of .21 engine (3.5cc), with an EFRA legal exhaust (tuned pipe, the stock one is fine as it is properly sealed an sprung). The full rules can be found on the BRCA website under 1/8 Rallycross. But that's racing at national level... certain clubs might have a relaxed formula where there perhaps may be no engine limits etc etc.. more geared for casual fun racing and practice. You can make the VS2 competitive, just like any other kit, they have the same level of adjustment you'll find in other competition kits, which is all you need. Once you find your own driving style with it, you'll gradually find a set up which you'll be happy with. A lot of folk seem to be under the illusion that they need to have the best kit available, with the best set up, the best electronics and engine, in order to race.. but at the end of the day, if a driver frequently crashes, makes misjudgements leading to a mishap, and/or drive the RC at a lower pace due to their ability, that high-costing RC simply won't win. So, you're wise to choose a lower priced RC and see how you get on, and I think you'll be impressed with how well it will perform. I used to compete with an Inferno MP5 in the 90's, amazing car. Sort of drifted away from the hobby for a few years, busy with life and so on, but sneaked back with a GV Rex-X, and I found I could still be competitive with that when I'd set it up (just like I'd set up the MP5). For that price you can get kyosho 3.0 and a serpent RTRs for a couple more bucks.
Yup, and I personally liked the SRX8 a lot more.

Sounds like it would be a great buggy if it had a good engine. I have an older of a buggy in good shape and it's beefy like that one.
They are great, it's very robust and well made. All it needs is a better engine. Definitely a great buggy!
Your pullstart died and your starter box died. Wow. Must have been a tight engine. Did you preheat at all? Unlucky with the front bearing seal. Your audio is really bad because the microphone is so far from you.
Keep making videos. You will get better
