- We get you, because we are you, and we know that around every turn at the barn lies something terrifying…but usually only if you’re a horse person/rider. For this video, we asked the riders at SmartPak two questions: 1) What things scare you only if you are with your horse, and 2) What horsey nightmares have you had?

True story: I was crossing a road, and a motorcycle came towards me. Suddenly, a gust of wind blew a plastic bag across his path. For a second, I fully expected either of them (motorcycle or rider) to spook!

My gelding got me good this week! I introduced a new mare to our little herd who proceeded to double barrel my gelding! She got him in the ribs and the gaskin both full blows. Cue about 30 minutes of panic as he was thrown fro a loop. Fast breathing, ridged abdominal muscles, and a no weight bearings on his left hind. I thought I was watching my best bud die right in front of me. Thankfully he recovered but is still very sore!

One time I was taking a lesson and my trainer dropped a cone or something and I spooked and my horse (like always) was just standing there thinking:can I sell her at the auction? Actually nah, she's the one who gives me food

Absolutely the best Smartpak video, ever! The forelock sneeze had me on the floor...(once at a summer camp barn an ignorant but helpful staff member "banged" the forelocks of 3 Arabian show horses we leased for the summer...shudder). No Smartpaks left would have me sobbing.... LOOSEHORSE! Hah, gotcha....

On a side note, as someone who sells shoes, if your zips are popping regularly, either the leg is too tight and the zip is giving under straight, or the leg is too loose, the leg is slumping and the zip is separating while bent.
I actually spook at plastic bags... And umbrellas... And balloons, and people running past me, and rustling in the bushes, and people walking around corners, and sometimes stuff that wasn't there before. I'm pretty much a human horse...
Oh, and people unexpectedly spraying me with stuff...

The main thing I spook at is when something is too tight and you didn’t think to check but it’s literally your show day.

I always get spooked when I clean the feed stall and the kid that feeds (he's 14) just seems to spread about 2 bales out on the floor within 7 days after me cleaning.

I almost had a heart attack when I put a new mare at the barn out with another mare. The mare did not like the new mare in her territory and kicked the new mare in her back legs several times. The new mare had a deep cut all the way to her stifle (you could see it) and I thought I would have to put her down. Luckily the bone was unaffected and she just had a nasty cut!
That no stirrups thing hit close to home. I could never control my horses speed, she either had her nose in the horse in front's tail or I'd pull her back a little and she'd walk.
That umbrella spooked me as well
My nightmares are me accidentally leaving the gate open and losing my horses and my trainer getting really mad at me
