- There are 278 units in the 19-story development known as the Weingart Tower. It's intended to help people currently without shelter on Skid Row and it will be L.A.'s largest permanent support housing project. READ MORE: abc7.com/post/new-downtown-lo...
$600k per unit. "homeless advocates", contractors, admins are defintely getting rich off this program.
Just like the privatization of our prisons, energy companies and military? At least people are getting help, and can hopefully get employed to pay for their own apartment. If people are tired of seeing homeless people on the streets then this is what it takes.
@@marco12377 No. The homeless are a) mentally ill: get them the help they need, b) addicted, get them the help they need, c) recalcitrant and refuse to play by the rules of society, work or go to jail.
You have to include the breakdown of the land cost. That would be $550k per unit for the land.
@@marco12377
And people like you are why we have so many problems.
You bet they are!
These things will be trashed in hours. It’s not about housing. It’s about mental illness and substance addiction. Until the latter is treated, nothing can be done.
I am sorry to say that EBT IS EVEN a bigger problem
Bad to say I said the same thing
@@nayandhir5910 Food stamps and EBT were never meant to feed the poor. They were given out to subsidize the big food conglomerates. Fast food meals and sugary sodas to add to free medical care from eating a poor diet. When the breadwinner in our family was downsized a few years ago and lost medical insurance, Obama FINED us at a time we couldn't spare money paying the bills. And our fine went to give free medical care to others who did not contribute to society, and now to the undocumenrted. A travesty.
100%!!!
They should go to veterans first.
Are you saying that joining the military isn't an adventurous vacation? I am shocked to hear that the military industrial complex, designed to make the top 1% even wealthier has turned a blind eye on the very people that they tricked into doing their dirty work, all in the name of "freedom"...
Yes yea yes ! Sad to say lots homeless chose to b on streets bc OF DRUG HABITS ,, OUR VETERANS SHOULD DEFINITELY COME FIRST

Let's reward failure, bad choices and charge tax payers..... nice🤦🏽♂️
It actually costs more to deal with current issues the way they have been this entire time. How a country treats its poorest is the greatest measure of true economic health
That's democrats
@@Sayphonik it’s not going to do much to change the homeless situation. That building only holds a few hundred people. There’s almost a hundred thousand homeless in L.A.
@@Sayphonikhow about they get a job and struggle like the rest of us. It’s not my job to bail out these people.
It's *much more expensive* to throw people in jail and care for people with serious medical problems because of their homeless living conditions than to do what is depicted in this video.
The units will be destroyed in record time
Why not just pray for them instead of blashing… them .. Everyone deserves a break sum kind hope that love still exists. What if God turn your switch on to be in the condition and mindset. Learn to pray and give God grace and glory Gezz..
@insightwmrssladywbuzz5779 This isn't a break, this is more handouts that have proven not to work.
That’s a hell of an upgrade over a tent.
Yup from a cheap $15 tent to a $600,000 brand new unit with amenities… unreal
I work hard and I live in ghetto and homeless people living modern new building what a joke this country
i would like to be proven wrong but it's going to be a disaster.
It only works if they also have homeless advocate workers included throughout the building. The people who are moving into this building need supervision.
Even if it works, $600k per unit. Then who pays for the ongoing costs and upkeep? This isn't sustainable anyways because it only houses 278 people what a joke
Taxpayers pay.
@@ericheick7044 Maintaining jails and keeping them incarcerated, as well as treating any medical conditions caused by their living conditions is *much more expensive* than doing what we see in this video.
What a beautiful fentanyl dealership!
😂😂
A follow up in a year would be great. This is going to get messed up.
A lot of the homeless are mentally ill. They might trash their apartment or become hoarders. I guess they will do inspections on a regular basis.
Within a year it will look like the street outside.
@@hardwired4548 The street outside doesn't have round the clock case workers assisting tenants with the help they need.
@@marco12377 And how long do you think it will be before the case workers walk off in disgust from being victimized everyday.
@@hardwired4548 Are you speaking for case workers because you have done the job yourself?
What are the stipulations for living there?
How much is the rent?
How long are they allowed to stay?
How much is this costing?
Your reporting skills suck.
They have to have a job and pay 30% of their income. It’s permanent housing for them. I saw this on another video.
You ask very good questions!
Good question!
Give 6 months and it will be trashed and possibly burnt down.
Depends on how it's run. But I have little faith in Karen Bass.

@sbsk2526 how sheltered are you? never seen a homeless camp before?
@@thirdmonkey why would they do that in their own brand new $600k home? Outside in their old camp that’s a different story. I’m talking about when they move into their brand new home.
@sbsk2526 mental illness and other factors such as addiction is the reason most people are homeless and you think they can maintain a 600k home? Okay.
@sbsk2526 they don't care 😂. What he said stands, that will definitely end up happening.
What about the vets? Don't I have say where my tax dollars go??
Not in Comifornia.
Homeless and migrant business is more profitable...beside Vets benefits I believe is controlled on the Federal level. Therefore there is not opportunity to make even more money.
California residents overwhelmingly voted for this.
California has a big drug addicted homeless problem.
The VA needs sufficient federal funding to adequately take care of our disabled veterans and vets who fell on hard times.
I give it six months it’ll turn to crap
Sounds like your relationships
Now can we help the middle class, taxes are killing us
lol Yeah right. Good one...
No you got a pay for this
Nobody really has to live in California. The cost of living in the Dakotas and Nebraska, including a roof over one's head, is much more reasonable there. Plenty of work there, too. Most folks don't like the winters, though.
@@chetpomeroy1399 you said it by yourself, it’s cold 🥶
Do they have their own law that’s different from American law?
@@nicoledijkstra-araghi3576 Those are just three of the several states, *all* of which are under the jurisdiction of federal law. Like other states, they have their own individual state laws. By and large, the regulatory structure there is more accommodating for businesses that create jobs and for developers who seek to build single-family homes and rental properties.
I wish my life was a complete failure, so I could live in such nice digs as these.
This place is not going to be very nice to live in. The people moving in will trash it.
They’re saying for the homeless, but another news source said that they are for section 8. 😏
Section 8 is a good program. That prevents future homelessness!
They dont deserve this apt...
Wish I could get a free apartment.
I’ve worked my whole life and at 50 I still can’t afford a home. What am I doing wrong!? I can’t get ANY help because I did work til cancer struck me.
250 units x $600K each unit = ? (I call bullshit and my comment is being deleted)
How many of these residents are from the state of California? Are these ppl going to fingerprinted? We all know how fast this place will go up.
Damn. Home Depot had tiny homes for 20k . i smell fuckery
Real estate is *expensive* in coastal California.

It's beautiful 😍 but bottom line and with the law of entropy ...It's enviable it's going to be thrashed. So it's a Vertical "Soft" Sec 8 Zoo but a very nice one at that. Now Build more!
I wish i was homeless, than I'd have nice things.😢
@ericcarrillo1294 your very last name sounds illegal. Are you one of those "chicanos for trump" that blame illegals because you're incompetent and lazy? Do you resent the fact that many "illegals" are hardworking and accomplish more without knowing the system, the language, or the environment than many like you?
I do not believe in how Karen Bass is running LA. Where is her jobs program? I'd be on board if it included an unemployment office where people moving into the building could also apply for meaningful jobs. That's the real road to fixing homelessness in LA!
Apparently they are required to have a job and pay 30% of their income
it won't last 1 year unless there is strick security and strick rules.
There going to destroy that build it’s going to bee the drug spot soon see it abandon in a few years !

What a FANTASTIC idea! What could go wrong?

2. Cabrini Greens public housing, Chicago
3. Jordan Downs, Watts , LA
4. Louis Heaton Pink Houses, Brooklyn
5. Johnston Square Apartments

5. Queensbridge Houses, Queens
6. Robert Taylor Homes, Chicago
Cool where can I sign up? I’ll take 10 rooms!
Hopefully everyone given the opportunity to live in a safe clean residence is drug tested. Who knows, let’s have faith in it being a step in the right direction to help others in need and in turn betters the community/city.
Drug testing, as well as an employment office. No one who doesn't know how to hold down a job can improve their life.
Bahahahaha another shit lib leftist voter. Here is your sign. Hey I think all the apartments come with a Unicorn too.
I want to live on skid row now
Keep the homeless 'engaged' with a music room, games, TV et al. You know what would keep them 'engaged'? A JOB and working for a living to support themselves. How far away is the nearest liquor store to provide refreshment as they watch Judge Judy re-runs all day?
Hopefully it stays clean for a couple days
Hope this actually is helpful and doesn’t end up a headline
It's probably not helpful, and will _never_ be a headline. The D people will cover for one another.
Not everybody deserves housing, make maintaining employment a requirement and watch interest plummet
I’ll take one crack rock please. I’d love to have a free or section 8 luxury apartment with amenities.
lol wish the military Barracks looked as half good
I hope the people that really need the units get them. Mandatory mental health & drug/alcohol counseling for those who need it should be required to remain a tenant. I hope this brings some resolution to the problem but the 600k per unit seems a bit 🤨
She's making it a community 👏 wow that's nuts 🎉
The Homeless Industrial Complex is in full swing in the city of angels.
It’s homeless veterans that deserve it. Tax payers that deserve affordable housing.
Who is paying to maintain this place? Who’s paying the utilities?
That gym is gonna smell somethin awful in no time.
So how long is the lease?
What about doing something like this for VETERANS???
At $600k/unit, they couldn't afford an architect?
I'm homeless for 2 years but that's too much Jim and everything give me a job that's all the rest I'll take care of it
Bodies are going to be thrown out of those windows on that building.
This is disgusting period as middle class can't pay their bills
This is better than being on the streets but I’m furious that these people are getting fully furnished apartments for free . Not for free from my income taxes.
I bet some people will be angry & jealous that homeless people are getting a nice place to live. If you feel this way, try to have some compassion.
LOL.
You are part of the problem, thanks for helping this world turn into garbage.
This entire concept for skidrowers is just ridiculous !! Yet our veterans and other honest struggling American families get overlooked .
❤❤🎉🎉 This is awesome !!!!
a community pays taxes!
"Experiencing homelessness" just sounds wrong.
Very good news!
All money should be spent on homeless people instead of being spent on Ukraine!
How can i apply.
And the rest of us have to pay ever increasing rent….
Soon to be known as Tweaker Tower.
Daum…. I’m a single mother with no child support and not one government help since apparently I couldn’t qualify for a basic pay check. Yet I can’t even a decent place to live
LMAO
I’m pissed off
I'm curious: If homeless people find employment and get back on their feet, will they need to move out or start paying rent? If they live rent-free, wouldn't that discourage some from wanting to work and instead choose to stay in a nice apartment without paying?
As a taxpayer in California I am outraged that any penny of my taxes paid for this. This should have been a charity.
With a $600K per unit, there's little incentive for them to move out. They might remain in this situation forever.
Democrat policy wants people to be dependent on them so they will always get their votes.
Tents in the desert would have been more cost effective. Give them animals to take care of and feed themselves.
Well, real estate in the eastern deserts by Blythe near the Colorado River is much cheaper.
do they get kicked back out to their tent if they misbehave????
Absolutely ridiculous! How do they get luxury apartments...
You can put lipstick on a pig... it's still a pig
